Meant to be under Xoc's post. Whoops. This joke stupendously failed. I guess I now know how Jay Leno feels every night. Haha!

This thread is annoying me because it's in the head shop and it's baffling use of 'the fall' makes me want to make a threadrotting joke about Mark E. Smith...

No. I suspect there's a collective sitting-on-of-hands there.

I really don't have much of an opinion on you, Kali, which is unsurprising as I've engaged with very few of your posts. I just find that thread rather cloying, cringe-worthy and huggleriffic (huggles are my most biggest barbannoy EVAR). It's just not, well... me.

As for your posts elsewhere, first of all I want to stress that it's not just *your* posts to the aforementioned thread that I find annoying, secondly, I can be a little terse, especially when hungover, it's most definitely not personal.

I can only think of one poster I've actively disliked on the 'lith, and I'm pretty sure I haven't had any enemies (with the possible exception of Jade, but then who didn't want to flick him in forehead every so often (read: all the time)).

There's a few who irritate me, however.

Only during discussion of Mel Gibson messiah zombporn.

as per stoatie earlier:

Barbelith's creeping levels of unthoughtout bigotry/idiocy: the mysogyny right now, but also racism, homophobia, [insert bigotry here].

To paraphrase Stoats again, the kind of stuff I have at times come here to get away from.

Me forgetting that making my suit name too long will mess up the page formatting whenever I post in a thread. Like now for example.

Sorry everyone.

It's alright on my browser.

Yes, no messing up here (with opera) either. Don´t worry.

07:35 / 12.01.06
Oh, as long as it's alright in your browsers, that makes it okay then.

Would it only be okay if Tango-Whiskeymango only beat up members of my family, but left yours alone? No it wouldn't.

So your browser is affected by his new name. No, of course then it´s not okay.

What browser do you use?

Spaniel

It so isn't okay.

If I meet Tango-Whiskeymango, well, I let's just say I won't be held responsible for my actions. There are limits.

For what it's worth, my name has stuffed up the formatting on Firefox and Konqueror. I don't know about other browsers right now...

Boboss: what can I say? It was too early in the morning, I'd only had a few cups of coffee, and I was so intriguied - excited even - with the idea of actually changing my suit name after all these years, so I slipped. Deviating from the path of righteousness like that, when I had seen it happen before; well, that's just plain silly of me.

At least I haven't double-posted in a loooong while. Though that will now probably be next.

Ficsuit names that:

a) break the frames

AND

b) act as ads for websites.

Online equivalent of dressing in a hot dog costume and handing out "1/2 OFF All Footlongs" on streetcorners.

is using the board as ad space not fronwed upon?
i was mildly surprised to see no one challenging the dot-com name, and was considering doing so myself.

i might change my name to www.TheyPureWantItAndWePureFilmedItForYouToWatchWhileYouTouchYour.Co.ck to show my allegiance to onan, if everyone thinks it's cool.

Better idea: write in on your apple bag with a Sharpie marker, take a photo of it and post it in the Photos thread. At least that way it is contained.

No need to spread your love craft all over the board, is there?

Sometimes people (who should probably know better), make a mod request asking for something to be added to their post, then after half an hour of looking at it, considering it’s implications, asks for the very same two words to be removed!

You know who you are! Love you really bye!

It feels unpenetratable at the moment - like sitting alone in a cafe catching bits of other peoples conversations.

Componded by over-zealous mods moving threads about with no notice as to where they've gone or why.

I know it's meant well... but it can be very confusing...

+1 for the 'make it clear where and why you move and delete threads' list.

i hate going back to threads and finding out they make no sense whatsoever and having no clues as to why.

i might be wierd, though, as i hate it when people delete stuff people give them shit for too.
as far as i am aware all my retarded and ill advised shit is still there to be seen, and that's how i reckon it should be.

i get it when the deletia is still offending(those terms we have had starred out, for example) but when its just someone being a wank, deleting kinda seems like hiding the evidence.

dont remove it from history. apologise, grow and move on, i say.

The fact that nobody, with the possible exception of Ms Meme, agrees with me that the freedom and loose spirit of the anarchic social Darwinism of ILX. sucks as an argument.

I'm sorry, and I've been trying to keep a lid on this for days now, but Social Darwinism is one step up on the "hate scale" from libertarianism. And it pisses me off that nobody else is questioning this. ESPECIALLY seeing as how I'm always Mr Benefit Of The Doubt. (See, one of my NY resolutions was NOT to let people get away with shit, like I usually do).

Really. Does NOBODY else have a problem with that? I'm sure Flux didn't mean it the way it reads (in fact I'd put money on it), but I kind of thought we were supposed to be careful about stuff we said? And pick people up on it when they DID say stuff that was clearly hateful and wrong?

Espousing SD may be fair enough... I'm annoyed that nobody else picked up on it.

I'm really sorry, anyone who's now bored by this. But it pisses me off, and that's what this thread's for, right?

Afraid I just skimread it as Flux being sniffy about Barbelith, or claiming the best music writers had gravitated to his forum or something, Stoatie. Although I know what Social Darwinism is as a rough (anachronistic) theory, I'm still a little unsure what the phrase is being used to mean here - and what's being said about ILM and/or Barbelith.

Are you annoyed because people haven't said "Social Darwinism's an incredibly dodgy theory" or because Flux is possibly using the term to comment negatively on the Barb, or what?

It's a horrible political philosophy, generally used by its exponents as a euphemism for racism (the Church of the Aryan Nations describe themselves as Social Darwinists, as do most of the far-right groups in the States). The ideology is basically "the survival of the fittest"- ie the strong survive, the weak go to the wall. Fascism in its purest form.

Yes, the phrase can mean many other things. But by putting it next to "anarchic", it's being placed as a political philosophy. And I'm sorry, it's one I have no time for.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:46 / 29.01.06
Oh, and the reason I'm pissed off is that nobody has thought to say that's a bad thing.

If someone had said "come to board X, it's much better, much more fascistic" then... ?

Ganesh
22:53 / 29.01.06
I'm aware of the general basis of Social Darwinism, particularly its (mis)use by all manner of dodgy right-wing groups - but I'm afraid I don't think of the phrase as automatically hot-button in and of itself, particularly if I'm unfamiliar with the context in which it's being used. I'd taken Flux's phrase as meaning the forum he liked was relatively unstructured, unmoderated and operated a 'survival of the fittest' approach in terms of posting quality - all of which might well make me think, "hmm, not sure I like the sound of that forum" but not, "oh no, Flux is seriously advocating eugenics (or something)".

Perhaps I have an abnormally detached take on Social Darwinism, but mention of it just didn't make me that angry. Sorry. At most, it made me think Flux is rather more right-wing than I'd imagined.
