Seconding flyboy's request above. Can the headshop mods take a look?

I'm a mod in Convo but not TV, if it helps.

Aha! Aha! It is solved.

Now we just need to know why.

Given the frequency with which I wish to know why in my life and the spectacular lack of answers I generally seem to get, I suspect we may never know.

The current situation with Epop is that, as far as we are aware, he has scrambled his password on the way out of the door. That he has not made any further posts seems to back that up. However I'm wondering if we should discuss making double sure that this particular ficsuit cannot get back in at a later date for one final "HAHAHAAAIVEFOOLEDYOUALL!" spray of troll-piss?

It might save time and energy if we asked Tom to, when he's got a spare minute, re-scramble that suit's password.

Thoughts?

Argh. Just put a mod request through to delete a post in Temple as I mistakenly believed the conversation it was meant for was happening in Policy... now I've realised it wasn't, could someone nix it please?

This handy tabbed browsing can be more trouble than it's worth sometimes.

Can anyone see these images belonging to Decresent Daytripper in the Art thread in Creation?

I can't see them and I've tried to fix the image links but I can't see the images at all from the url.

They work fine for DD. Can anyone help me with how to go about fixing the problem, images of your Art being a vital component to the Art thread and all that?

I can't see them either but I havent a clue as to how he/she'd go about fixing the link apart from tranfering them to a image hosting website (photobucket ect..)

When I get back tonight, I'll try to move the images to somewhere. I don't want to pay for the service, or anything and have never used an image-hosting service (I don't post pictures, really), and it's not like anybody's missing much. But I'll give it a go. I bothered to post them in the thread, might as well make them viewable to people. Can anybody other than Triplets see them?

(Boy, that's weird to ask.)

You could always use www.flickr.com free and easy to link from...

and www.photobucket.com is what I use and its extreemly easy to link from. Never had any problems with them.

I now feel a bit silly for avoiding flickr, et al, all this time. Always assumed there'd be a bit of a fee or some rights surrendering guff.

If anyone who had a problem seeing the pics before could pm to confirm they're visible now, it'd be a relief of sorts. And you'll have had to look at my artwork, which was the insidious point of posting it in the first place.

Any AF&D mods around? Looks like an impersonal cut 'n paste advert but the topic starter has 11 topics and has been here for two years.

Same spam in Creation.

That's what I was about to say.

Of the 11 topics, two are adverts in AF&D, and the other 9 are in Creation. Not sure if it's technically totally spam, but I'm not the person to judge.

Out of the nine threads that the Barbelith internal search engine turns up in Creation, though, a big fat none have replies. So if it is definitely spam, it's not having much of an effect - or at least a quantifiably antagonising one.

This is definitely something to be picked apart, though, for my nebulous-internet-opinion-based money. What are everyone's thoughts?

They could've just attached them to an appropriate thread, yeah? Especially as it's time-sensitive, so not likely to be returned to three years later, even if someone had something similar to talk about. Not that there's any talking about to be done in the thread(s) as existing now.

If it shows up all over like spots of mold it's a bad thing. Good things show up here and there, like a nicer simile than mold.

I'd say delete both of them. That's 4 threads in two different fora. I guess if the Creation mods were feeling cuddly they could spare one.

And yes, has anyone contatcted our most recent spamcreature?

I just agreed the AF&D mods.

I returned the topic texts by PM to the poster, and copied them to myself for reference. I pointed to this discussion in the PM with an opening sentence:

"Was http://www.barbelith.com/topic/27099 now deleted following discussion in Policy and Help forum, 'Moderation requests and discussion thereof' thread."

I have modded to delete one of the Creation ones too. I suppose I must be feeling cuddly because I have left the other to sink gently into the bowels of Barbelith without bothering anyone.

Quite often with stuff like this, you can Google a section of the suspected spam and see if it's appeared anywhere else on the internet in exactly the same form.

Computer says yes.

Might be worth doing it for a couple of the previous threads from that user. If they all turn out to be cut 'n' pasted advertising bullshit, I can't see a single good reason fo the suit not being put to rest.

I'm on self-imposed exile from the Head Shop at present, but could somebody possibly save me from myself and try to engage with DEDI's latest post to the BDSM thread? If we are going to ban Epop for, essentially, claiming that he has a better understanding of other people's sexuality than they do and that he could tell them how they felt about their experiences, then his contributions are not on.

Oh gosh, how eye-bleedy. Rather than go with my first impulse which was to put in for a delete, I've chosen to engage--not because I see much milage in trying to talk to Dedi who's repeatedly proven himself unwilling or unable to enter into rational discourse, but because this daring, cutting-edge notion that safewords are not for real, harcore BDSMers is so dismally prevalent and in such dire need of debunking.

Also I'm not sure that's the most complete assessment of why we were going to ban Epop. In assessing what made his posts so offensive it was certainly a huge element, but there were other issues involved.

Next up, I just agreed a delete request in the Conversation on the grounds that it followed a post also put forward for deletion. What I didn't realise was that the other deletion had been requested not by the poster but by a moderator, for an unconvincing reason. Could somebody hop in and disagree it? Thx.

I would like to request that this thread be unlocked. The poster concerned has renaged on his undertaking to engage with the board in meaningful way, and if he's going to persist in his current mode of behaviour I would like there to be an appropriate place to collate info.

Although I agree with your intention, I think you have been gazumped - I think the new thread is a slightly more neutral space for the discussion you're looking for, as well?

Why do we need neutral space? I like the old thread. It's all evidencey. And it has my name on!

There was stuff wiped from that thread, though, right? It reads odd.

Quote the relevant materials into the new thread, as necessary. For those of us who actually didn't make a connection between old-posts and new stuff. I forget who people are on this board - as I do in real life, sometimes - if I don't hear from them for several months or a long week.

Also, wouldn't it be nice to have a little counter that tells you how many (not who, but just by number) people have you on ignore? To give you that quiet kick in the pants if you're not being deliberately antagonistic, vile, and annoying? Before it goes too far.

I don't have any particular case in mind, and the arranging for such a program would probably be too much hassle for anyone to implement, but something like that would seem like it would help.

(I've never put anyone on ignore so I don't know what it looks like when you do. I imagine the post is still ther, it's just bars over the words, and the occasional picture that slips through for html loopholes.)

I think the answer to that is the same as the answer to all the suggested improvements or alterations to the board, DD - it's not going to happen in the foreseeable future with the board's current setup, and so while it might be a good idea - although I don't think number of people ignoring you is necessarily a useful metric of how well you are doing on Barbelith - it is not likely to be implemented, and if there are opportunities to implement changes then dealing with the ways in which the board is broken is probably a higher priority.

Why do we need neutral space? I like the old thread. It's all evidencey. And it has my name on! - from TTS / Mordant.

Assuming you're being even half serious, TTS / Mordant, we need neutral space because these things are never about just one individual, whether that's defendent or plaintiff, but about the health or otherwise of the whole board. If we don't have neutral spaces in which to discuss these things, they risk becoming somewhat asymmetrical, and being tempered by perceived or actual status. Personally, I'd be happy if DeDI never posted on Barbelith again, but if there is a banning discussion to be had it is perhaps best first couched in neutral terms, with any evidence of a posters 'previous' being linked to.
