The Poster Formerly Known As Rural Savage has apparently gone into troll meltdown. See the "Prolific 'lithers" thread in Convo and his new "I'm a Bigot" thread in Headshop, which I probably shouldn't have replied to. Moment of weakness. Sorry.

It's not exactly meltdown yet, although the chances of him ever contributing a post of genuine value do appear to be receding. When is it appropriate to start talking about next steps?

Not an enormous length of time after calling 5000 people humourless, self-satisfied cunts, I would have thought.

When is it appropriate to start talking about next steps?

Depends on the aggro:entertainment ratio, I suppose, and how often or sustainedly (is that a word?) he's posting.

And whether he has Bette Davis eyes.

maybe it's already being addressed, but the 2007 books thread is called 2006. Can someone change it?

Hmmm, it's changed now but I had made the request right after starting it at about 12:10 this morning. Was I the only sad case at home and posting while everyone else was out celebrating New Years?

OK, what sayest thou Barbelith?

I started this thread in the Head Shop this morning. nataraja started this thread on the same subject in the Switchboard this afternoon. I modded for that thread to be locked (which someone has agreed) and suggested via PM that nataraja copy and paste their post into the Head Shop thread. They PMed back saying they felt the topic was more of a Switchboard one and the ethical angles should be in a seperate thread (sadly my fu is failing me at the moment but I'm fairly sure we have some medical ethics threads which could be bumped up if necessary). What do people think? Should the Head Shop thread be moved to Switchboard, or is it right where it is? I feel that two seperate threads in two different fora with this as the leaping-off point are going to end up in unnecessary duplication of opinions.

I've moved my post to the thread currently in Head Shop, as i totally agree with your last sentence.

TBH i don't mind too much whether the thread stays in Head Shop or goes to Switchboard, but i think i'd like to talk about disability as identity politics in a more comprehensive, less specific way in Head Shop, whereas i'd see this particular case as more "current affairs/politics" than "theory/philosophy"... but, i've posted threads before in Head Shop that have turned out better suited to Switchboard and vice versa, so i'll bow to the more experienced over definitions of where the exact dividing line lies between the two...

OK, I moved for the Switchboard thread to be deleted, but if people want to move the Head Shop thread there I don't mind...

This post about Against The Day is very spoilery. Especially since it's in a thread about Cormac "Hardcore" McCarthy. Amend to reflect?

Hey everyone, I just wanted you to know that these days I go into moderation requests and if I find them boring I just click the back button on my browser.

I also asked Tom to remove me around Christmas time because I don't want to do it anymore but he hasn't so I'm just going to carry on doing it in a very disinterested way while lacking motivation to check anything properly.

Not to be whiny, mods, but that post that I direct you to fix is still unamended. It's the third paragraph of that post. The only reason I'm persisting with this is the fact that the post is in a thread about Cormac McCarthy and the post is spoilery about Against The Day which a good part of the Book forum regulars is still reading.

Please and thank you.

Post script:
If you fail to comply, I will have Chuck Norris simply roundhouse kick the forum, and then you mods will spend weeks picking up the pieces of the forum and trying to put them back together in the exact same as they were. And you'll undoubtedly put some "What Are You Reading 2005" with some "What Are You Reading 2006" and that will be fucking chaos.

Hi, can I just log a request here for all my posts in the CBB thread to be deleted? I've been trying to go through them individually but I imagine moderators will probably be more annoyed with me than they doubtless already are if they keep finding lists of mod requests with my name on them.

I don't want to come over all Sypha, but frankly the whole thing is leaving a sour taste in my mouth and I can't be bothered with it anymore.

Thank you for your time.

VV, you've posted a lot in the CBB thread and there's no way all your posts can deleted without eviscerating the thread. There are already one or two apparent non-sequiturs ('fuckpig'?) that make me wonder if instrumental posts have already been pulled out from under the conversation.
I'm not a F,TV&T moderator, but I hope this will be a no-brainer for those who are.

Sorry, sometimes you say things that you just can't take back.

And to be fair, VV, most it was all right, I think. The thread's littered with 'fucks', it's ok to compare Channel 4 to a set of prostitutes I suppose, although pimps might have been a better analogy, and as far as I know you hadn't even mentioned the 'c' word until somebody else did. So I wouldn't worry too much, were I you.

VV, I don't think we should delete your Big Brother posts. Triplets made a comment about your use of language that, whilst true in one or two cases does not apply to the rest of your posts. I think he made his point a little harshly and if you wanted to you could go and moderate for the few posts which offend (the c**t one for example.) I personally don't have so much of a problem with fuckpig as it's not gender specific and is basically just a horrible name. I mean I'd rather not be called one but it's not something to get offended about reading.

I think your contributions to the Big Brother thread are of value and most of the time they're bloody funny. Please don't react to the criticsm by wanting to remove everything you've ever written there. That would be a big shame.

Actually, pimps would have been a much better analogy...

Yeah, sorry about that all. As I say I've been slightly under the weather lately and most of this morning I was feeling really low. It wasn't actually Triplets who got to me as much, it was Apt Titanium's comment about finding the overuse of the offending words making the place less woman-friendly and I got kind of upset thinking that I'd made someone feel like that and kind of over-reacted. The thought that I'd lost Haus' respect (if indeed I ever had it) didn't help.

Don't know quite why I'm not as down now, though I have had a quite stunning nosebleed, so it may just be physiological.

I actually agreed a couple of the requests for changes to posts before I realised what was going on and turned down the rest. It seems ironic in the situation to try and change something in the past that people had talked to you about, I'm sure Jade wishes she could do the same about the last fortnight.

I personally don't have so much of a problem with fuckpig as it's not gender specific and is basically just a horrible name.

I think it's from Garth Ennis' second run of Preacher, I think. Feelings of uneasiness with it in this instance could be traced to the frequent likening of Jade to a pig during her first stint on Big Brother, before the tabs realised they had misjudged the mood the other way, which fed weirdly into her mixed-race origins, and to the sexual license which was also referred to earlier with the references to her being fucked behind the octopus ride by fairground folk.

Generally, what disquieted me about some of the comments made to the Big Brother thread was not misogyny per se, but vehemence - I mean, actual Nazis were getting an easier ride than she was, and at far less length.

Hey all. A Film, TV and Theatre related request...

I really despise the anime thread because it seems to be sucking in a lot of anime related discussion that could be developed a lot further. To me it feels like having one catch-all topic for all live-action American TV and movies. It doesn't do justice to what it's supposed to discuss and a lot of great TV is ending up as a footnote in a big mess of a thread.

At the same time I know that there's only a handful of people who are keeping up to date with new anime releases, and so if there's a topic per series or movie then it's likely they'll be quite slow for a while. I don't mind that, as these things can snowball once word of mouth gets around, and a series that didn't get a lot of attention on first release might become hugely talked about within a few months.

I've started what I hope will be a better way of discussing anime, which is the Primer thread, along with the suggestion that series or movies should get their own topic if you want in depth discussion. As a result I was hoping that the old thread could be locked... it just seems like it soaks up too much discussion of too much good telly.

I wouldn't have thought the original thread needs to be locked. Surely if your Primer thread catches on then people will go for that over the Anime thread. I don't think locking a thread (especially a thread which, by the look of it, is still quite active) to force people onto a brand new thread is necessary.

People may just hop onto the new one. Give it a bit of time. If it takes off then the Anime thread can just drop down the page.

It's less of a concern over whether people choose to post in a new thread and more that the old one is a pretty directionless affair for discussing anime in general. As I say, it's like having a thread to discuss the entire live action film and TV fiction output for any country you happen to name, regardless of genre or the people who worked on it.

A thread called "American TV and Film Fiction" would just be a little... bizarre. There's a casual audience for anime that occasionally crops up and asks for recommendation, but that's better served by a primer thread anyway.

In general I dislike those, "What films/TV/books/comics/music are you watching/reading/listening to at the moment" threads for similar reasons. It fills up with one liner mentions that could have a better standard/amount of conversation elsewhere, debate within the thread isn't easily searchable and in the case of anime it reinforces the idea to people less familiar with what's on offer that it's all just one big homogenised mass with little variety and little to differentiate between titles.
