I watched Star Wars on DVD all weekend. You know, I barely noticed any of the changes... there were only about three (obvious ones) that stood out to me. I never even noticed the "Greedo shoots first thing" in the special editions before I was on the internet! Well actually, I just ignored it. (I was aware of what changes there were now because of the internet, again...) It just didn't matter. None of it really stopped me enjoying them like I did when I was younger, even though the changes might be entirely unnecessary.
I feel sort of sorry for George Lucas, watching the documentary. It was certainly very interesting to see how the first film was such a mess, but started to take shape with all the other layers (effects/sound) being added to it later... I couldn't help getting the feeling that the whole thing sorta ruined/took over his life in a bad way. I mean, he's obviously not doing badly career-wise and "he" has done a lot to change film (although I can't quite work out how much is for the better, but I think that might just be because the recent SW films don't quite measure up) but he even openly admits he has become what he used to rally against... I also never knew he used to be so damn thin. It's funny that he and all the famous directors he was buddies with are now all such big bearded guys... |
