Ultimately, the Pixies would have gotten more respect from me if they had postulated that if the Devil was six then God was Nevin. I've always liked Pat Nevin.

This thing about Heroes that confuses me is that The 4400 is apparently succesful enough that someone sat down and decided to rip it off. I do like 'Super Hiro' though.

Wasn't the 4400 already a rip off of an old Jim Shooter comic from his Defiant days - the Good Guys I believe it was called...

What are all those company bigshots thinking when they are looking for a "catchy" name for their new product?

Yesterday, Nintendo(?) published a new gaming console and as you might know the console´s called wii. A couple of minutes ago, I read a thread about people waiting in line for hours to get their console, here´s an excerpt:

"(...)when I wake up, my beloved wil have everything set up and I can just enjoy the glory of my Wii."

Really, couldn´t they have called it Calypso, Miranda, Bellagio or something?

Why does every new version of Windows Media Player have to get slightly uglier and become even more inconvenient to use?

One of these days I have to start ignoring those "Updates Are Available!" pop-ups...

More of a random discovery than a random thought:
phonetic alphabets of the world.

Not the ABCs, but the Alpha Bravo Charlies.

I'm quite captivated by the Indian one...
Army Brother Cinema Doctor English Father Gold Hotel India
Jam King Lady Mother Navy Orange Paper Queen Raja Sister
Table Uncle Victory Water X-ray Yellow Zero

And see if you can spot the one that's not like the others in the Malaysian one...
Australia Bombay China Denmark England Fiji Ghana Hongkong
India Japan Kedah London Malacca Norway Osaka Penang
Queensland Russia Singapore Turkey Uganda Victoria Wales
X'Ray Yokohama Zanzibar

And the Swedish/Finnish one is pretty nicely Goreyesque...
Adam, Bertil, Cesar, David, Erik, Filip, Gustav, Helge,
Ivar, Johan, Kalle, Ludvig, Martin, Niklas, Olof, Petter,
Quintus, Rudolf, Sigurd, Tore, Urban, Viktor, Wilhelm,
Xerxes, Yngve, Z{ta, ]ke, [rlig, \sten

where { is a with dots
] A with ring
[ A with dots
\ O with dots

Sometimes used: Fredrik, Olle, Rikard

Stockholm police use Kryss (meaning cross) for X.

That's kind of beautiful.

I've just discovered that the village I was brought up in was a thriving C18 market community with over 50 shops, craftsmen and traders, and that people would come from far and wide to shop there. Bit like a modern shopping malls, then.

Just a bit.

I've decided I'm basically pretty mono, but I sort of think of polyamoury as being more grownup than monogamy somehow. I mean, if you're doing it for real and for serious. I kind of feel like committed poly people should get... I don't know, presents. A diploma. The [insert time period] of Successful Polyamoury Award. Special days off work, like for maternity leave. ("I have to see my tertiary in Bristol, can I have Monday off?" "Nothing serious I hope." "No, ze just needs hugs." "Of course. Off you go then, have a nice weekend!")

One of my uncles has one of those crazy african dogs that don't bark. A basenji, I believe it's called. wait...wait...google search...yeah, a basenji.

Looks just like that guy up there, except it's slimmer and has just the one eye. According to my uncle the other one sorta turned to liquid and ran out the socket like a tear. Aside from the fact that that's totally gross, have you ever seen a one-eyed dog without any glass eye to fill the socket? It totally changes the shape of the dog's head. It looks weird, especially on a small, oddly shaped dog skull.

Anyway, the really gross part is, my uncle told me the dog loves to have the socket rubbed. I thought he was bullshitting but then he sticks his finger in the socket. The dog seemed cool with it, but I never had the intestinal fortitude to do it myself. I got close but I just couldn't do it. What on earth would that feel like, I wonder.

My neighbour down the street must be having a shower as there's steam coming out of a second floor spout thingy. It makes me think of a giant kettle. For a moment I can imagine myself living in a steampunk suburbtopia.

You mean i have had a hang over from the 70s in the 21st century for last 2 years? My toilet seat has broken again, just like last year, its christmas, now i will be asked if the new toilet seat i buy is a present, feeling anxious at the prospect. maybe i should wrap the old one and leave it under a tree somewhere.

I'll be off for vacation as of tomorrow morning. So, before I leave you alone I just want to wish each and every one of yous a Merry Christmas, a happy Chanukah, a wild Solstice, and a Prosperous New Year. To all, the best of times, plenty of fun and love and money, party every night or at least as often as your soul requires, the less stress modern Western world allows, big and good surprises, plenty of sex in the way you enjoy it the most (even if it's actually none at all) and may not only you, but your families, friends, lovers, businees partners, pets, neighbours, elected representatives, and even worthy respectful adversaries have a very prosperous and bountifull year, ye free men and women

Feliz Ano Novo. Viva Iemanjá, Ishtar, the Holy Virgin Mother, Eris (be nice!), Kali, and Sekhmet
