Ariadne - I crashed at a friend's place in Bruntsfield and, inspired by what you can get for the money, now want to move to Edinburgh. Such lovely buildings - all stairwells and high ceilings! Would have suggested dinner, but all was a bit chaotic and I had no idea when we were going where. However, I may well be back, if only because of addiction to Black Bo's delish vege haggis. Blackfriars Street is the home of lovely food...

Gosh - an orange bagpuss. I'm not sure how that would even *work*...

It didn't for Garfield, that fat little bastard. Top of the evening, all.

Evening.

Yeah, my boss just sked if I was gonna dye my hair orange next. I considered it for a moment, then realised it'd make me look like Jeffrey Dahmer.

Evening, Ms D!

Hey Sally!

Hmm, I think it did work for Garfield, considering that the strip still runs in some papers, and there have been countless plush toys, collected books, cartoon specials, and so on.

Well, I got past the thinking about it stage, and actually put in a load of laundry. Soon I will have the always pleasurable task of matching up socks.

Yeah, but Garfield's a mere franchise. Bagpuss, on the other hand... ah, my friend, Bagpuss is a way of life.

Hiya, Stoatie! I dyed my hair traffic cone orange for an afternoon, but I simply could not work it. My theater history teacher was deeply confused as to why he'd seen me with three different haircolors in less than six hours.

Stoatie, Haus, you're both employable, how do you do it? How do you convince people to exchange funds for your services?

You have a point iao, but they're just... antihumor. It sucks amusement right out of me.

the cat's iao

Well, don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying that there was anything great about Garfield--indeed, "a mere franchise." I simply meant that his being orange has appeared to work in at least some ways--ways that likely have made his creator a good stack of cash! But yeah, funny it ain't.

Sally, are you having a difficult time finding a job?

Hello, is anybody in?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
00:14 / 15.08.04
Yeah, still here.

Sally, I'm not entirely sure at which point exactly I became employable. Every time I get a job I'm living in fear that someone will find me out as a workshy fop, but it never seems to happen.

I seem to have reached a point where I am overqualified for all the jobs I had before, and by applying for them, people assume there's something horribly wrong with me. However, I'm still underqualified for just about everything else it seems. I should've been an accountant.

Still here, although should be asleep... just looking for a particular book review, and leafing through the Housing Act in advance of meeting landlords tomorrow...

Employability and subsequent fop-discovery is a funny thing... I also keep expecting to be "found out" - perhaps it is a universal thing?

Good evening all. Just in - but just in from Duckie which means barely coherent (though full of love... ) How is the Lithworld in the wee small hours? Ganesh is playing loud and dancy tunes to90 upset the neighbours and we're doing the Flaming Lips at the moment. Must go rescue the chinese food I'm cooking, sorry...

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Ah, y'see, Sally, that's why I got such a weird-ass nondescript job. No-one actually seems to know what qualifications you DO need.

Ooh! Lovely Duckie... I must come along with you two at some point soon - Shame was terrific fun and restored my faith in clubbing...

Xoc! Oh hurrah!

I'm just trying to get a tupping interview. Usually once I do I can hold it together long enough to convince prospective employers that I'm a meek little sponge, just waiting to absorb knowledge. Once I'm hired, I can slowly morph back into an urchin, and my employers feel slightly guilty, thinking they've broken a delicate spirit and turned it bitter (not the case, bitter already.)

I recounted the actions of Lucy Fire to someone today!

As for the convincing... I'm actually afraid I don't know. I have had only a handful of interviews, and fewer jobs - about three in my entire adult life, I think. Confidence seems to be key in the interview stage, but as for the application, I am stumped. Apparently there is a vogue for resumés with a snappy summary of one's entire being as an opening paragraph, before doing the qualification bits...

Bless LucyFire!

Don't worry, this is my job. Having a nail banged into my skull is my job. I need to get a new job.

We should organise a suitably fabulous attack on the new burlesque craze at our first opportunity...

This is only actually my second full-time job in my life- the other one having been working in a comic shop, I to know little of the real world of employment.

Morning everyone!

I'm at work like Stoatie, got Clash on my headphones, see it's not all bad!

Anyone want a biscuit before they all go?

Do you have pie?

Brigade du jour
01:12 / 15.08.04
Hmm, how to get a job ...

I don't know, Sally, just try and be/seem enthusiastic I suppose. I think it's enthusiasm that employers look for more than naything else actually, at least in my experience.

I've had a shitload of jobs, but most of them were arranged through an agency where my particular
'agent' (I suppose you'd call her) seemed to like me so I got loads of work just cos I can type and answer a phone and stuff, so I'm not sure if it really counts!

They're always looking for staff here, if that's any help.

01:13 / 15.08.04
Ooh, pie.

Brigade du jour
01:14 / 15.08.04
No pie, I fear it.

Mazarine
01:19 / 15.08.04
All pie, or just this particular abstract idea of pie on which some of us are fixated?

Brigade du jour
01:21 / 15.08.04
All pie.

Can we change the subject please? I'm getting a bit scared here ...

Mazarine
01:30 / 15.08.04
Please choose an acceptable topic, and I'm sure a subject change will commence thereafter.

Brigade du jour
01:33 / 15.08.04
Ok, um ... fluffy bunnies and blue skies and big happy ...

Oh I can't do this shit, I'm at work and it's three thirty in the fucking morning ...

Mazarine
01:37 / 15.08.04
How about we go back to biscuits? I bought a lovely bag the other day, a pound of iced oatmeal cookies, they're like a crispy version of a little Debbie oatmeal creme pie. Delicious!

Brigade du jour
01:43 / 15.08.04
Ooh lovely! I tell you what, when I was a student I used to get these big bags of broken biscuits that cost a pound in my local corner shop. Just because they were broken doesn't mean they weren't nice, I can tell you.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

I found out the other day that Jaffa Cakes actually legally count as cakes rather than biscuits.

I'm not sure why I care, but I do.

Brigade du jour
01:49 / 15.08.04
Yeah that makes sense. Cakes are soft, biscuits are hard. I know, I've fought 'em both, b-boom!

Mazarine
01:51 / 15.08.04
Now that I'm in the south, I'm debating the idea of becoming addicted to moon pies. Just because it's an awfully nice name for a pie.
