Well I agree dead Megatron the fusion cannon would help A LOT..

Personally Im confused how the transformation sound effect is going to work , I watched the trailer and note the effect for the title transforming and the speed it transformed which had me wondering if it was going to be similiar for the robots.

I dont expect the same sound as cartoons but the sound of the transformation process itelf seemed to be an important part of the transformation , the only time I remember it being slow was if it was longer process i.e. Devastator
so I guess they matched the speed to size - I dunno..

The bottom line is I hope that speed / sound effect isnt the same one their using for the robots because i fuckin hated it ..

By the way unless theirs more to come I cant believe they dont have Dinobots in there or stuck with some of the original forms i.e. soundwave ..

Those things were essentials ..

I suppose if anything about this film i will happy if they can get recreate the starscream / megatron rivalry with original voices - esp starscreams high pitched helium hecklings

It's the purist take that's difficult to engage with. This isn't any different than the woe-betide-melodrama about Spider-man's organic webshooters or the lack of Wolverine's Cadillac Fin mask in the movies.

Some shit will not translate. And I'm glad to see it as this is a chance to improve on the mythos. Not dragging back into it's toy-inspired claptrap. Film forces the story and the economy of that story to be a bit leaner narratively and more realistic than comics or cartoon format. Just a little bit more anyway.

I personally don't want Snidely Whiplash cacklings and all the vaudville theatrics of the cartoon. And the Dinobots, et al, would just end up laughable.

>>>Yeah, I don't ask much, just respect for the original source, and the intelligence of the audience. An adult, realistic* portrait of a desperate war for energy, with the 'bots we used to know.<<<

It's a movie based on a saturday morning cartoon advertising a line of children's toys.

Toys.

Made for children.

I must be mellowing in my old age, I don't want slavish immitation of the original concept, I just want them to be able to justify any change they make beyond 'it'll be cool'. Every time the LotR films changed something I winced, but then I was, by and large, satisfied with the reasons they gave on the director's commentary. For anyone else, I'm sure the original movie is on DVD.

I'm not a purist muyself. As for LotR (since this example has been used), I also a huuuuge fan, but I thought the chances made in the movie were actually necessary for its adaptation to the film format. But that is not always the case. To use another example I'm a fan of some of the changes in V for Vendetta were not made for the right reason. More than adapt, they were trying to simplify the story and make it less controversial.

So, you see, it's important that any changes are made in the right spirit. We have to ask ourselves: is this movie being made in a "non-holywoodian", creative, independente, unafraid, way? Or is the commercial, marketing, big-business aspect of it that is in rule? That will make all the difference.

But I so wanted to see the fusion canon...

Dead Megatron:

It's a movie based on a saturday morning cartoon advertising a line of children's toys. It's a movie based on a saturday morning cartoon advertising a line of children's toys. It's a movie based on a saturday morning cartoon advertising a line of children's toys. It's a movie based on a saturday morning cartoon advertising a line of children's toys.

It's not going to be a "non-holywoodian" fucking independent art film, whatever "non-holywoodian" means.

Well, duh!

OK, ok, I'll elaborate a little better. If you attention to the subtext, you'll see I was implying that is a movie based on a saturday morning cartoon (it was on sunday on my parts of da world, actually, but let's not be so obsessive-complusive about this), and we shouldn't expect much about it, if we hope to enjoy ourselves seing it.

And, the question i made in my previous post had its answer also somewhat implied: A movie directed Michael Bay will be what? Anyone? A blockbuster flick filled with every possible cliché and 2-dimensional character. Expect for it.

And, besides, the cartoon was not, in its concept, that much of a thing: it was in the end a 22 minute long Hazbro commercial. I'm not even sure I know why exaclty I connected so strongly with it, back then (as opposed to any other saturday/sunday morning cartoon).

There were some details about it that made it great. To me, it was that the character were so varied, both in personality and design (on both sides). There were some strong leads: Megatron and Optimus. And there were some strong supportive roles: Grimlock, Soundwave, Starscream. Those details, for me, made the difference.

But, in the end, all I want at this point, is the goddamn FBG on Megatron's arm. Is that so much to ask?

And, also, F-boy, whatever happened to you inner child? Can't you remember how it felt to be excited over the next episode of your favorite cartoon? Sarcasm, sarcasm, sarcasm... it's all I get from you.

Ohj, and "non-holywoodian" means "non-holywoodian", as in, not made by Holywood-based movie company, by a Holywoodian crew, with a Holywoodian producer.

Man, do I have to explain even the most obvious things?

>>>And, also, F-boy, whatever happened to you inner child? Can't you remember how it felt to be excited over the next episode of your favorite cartoon? Sarcasm, sarcasm, sarcasm... it's all I get from you.<<<

I think it springs from the idea that somehow the original source material - again, a cartoon ad selling kids' toys - deserves "respect" and "adult, realistic" treatment. The comparisons to LotR don't work for me at all, because Lord of the Rings is widely acknowledged as an important work of literature, second in popularity only to the Bible, and Transformers is, well, an ad for children's toys.

I'm looking forward to the film because I think that a big dumb action movie about giant robots that turn into trucks and jets and smash each other up is the ideal vehicle (no pun intended) for Michael Bay, and stands a chance of being a lot of fun. But I can't for one second get upset over changes from the toy line, because it's just a toy line.

I can't disagree with you Cameron.

Well yes, but you could say the same about the Cassius Clay movie, surely? And I gather that had gravitas.

On the other hand though, DM, your ideas make me wonder if you've been drinking boooze - It would arguably be quite good if what The Transformers were mainly fighting was their own refections, blue-collar guys going to the motor oil pump in the workshop a bit too often, etc, but it takes money to bring that sort of vision to life, money that I think even Speilberg would struggle to raise, if he was in the business of bringing such a dark piece of work to the screens.

I've been drinking booze half my life. Maybe it's finally catching up.

Actually, for me, it was a war between "geeks" (autobots), and "jocks" (decepticons). The sad thing is they never realized they were just kids stuck in a High School (Cybertron), and ended up briging their childish feud to College (Earth). They should've team'd up to fight their real enemies, their parents (the Quintessons).

I disagree with your views, DM.

The *uber-geek* is Bill Gates, right? The same Bill Gates who by any reasonable analysis of his behaviour over the years would be considered a Decepticon.

OJ Simpson, for example, seems like a positive Autobot in comparison; there was just that one oversight, you know?

The same Bill Gates who is currently arranging to give away almost his entire fortune to various humanitarian causes?

Just a dollar a day will fill the bellies of 5 or 6 clanky robots. Won't you make the call?

Besides, who needs Bill Gates when you have G.B. Blackrock?

TAKE THAT, THREADROT!

No lady transformers though huh ?

I guess this will be one Hollywood movie that aint going to have some sex in it or I hope not..

Even some of that gals must wince at the idea of RC or whatever here name was..

Prime used to be Orion Pax had a girl to before Megatron got hold of her..

Dead Megatron
14:07 / 30.08.06
Oh yeah, it's all about sex.

I guess wil have to waint for Transformer 2 or 3 before we get to the female bots.

But, why, o why, would sentient machines who reproduce by sprounting "sparks" out of a giant central computer (Sigma something, if I remember it), by means of a single uncopiable software (the creation/leadership matrix), have two genders, after all?

17:01 / 30.08.06
Well, actually, there are a few canonically gay Transformers - Prowl and Swoop/Divebomb in the Dreamwave series Transformers: Protectorate and Ultra Magnus is shown thinking of Optimus Prime as .. ahem... more than just a field commander in the novelisation Transformers: Energon Cage. There are hints, also in Protectorate, that Starscream had some sort of a thing going on with Sunstreaker in the days before the Autobot/Decepticon war, as well, but I don't imagine we'll see that in the movies.

We probably should, though. How un-Hollywood would it be to have a strong, capable gay lead character? Who transforms into a truck?

Dead Megatron
17:33 / 30.08.06
Hey, they could all be gay, as far I'm concerned. Although, I wonder how fun sex can be if you have no skin.

Maybe they use cords, and plug-ins, and sockets, or something

Dead Megatron
