I dont know what to expect from this ..

I just hope the sound effects of them transforming are as good as the cartoons or convincing..

That at some point a Starscream plots does work and and he gets the upperhand and his voice his as cool as the cartoon

Shockwave is in it..

Someone destroys that annoying little bumblebee , wheelie

Spike and his father are not in it

Devastator and the Dinobots lock up

Soundwave tastes in music are not limited to current fads..

First glimpse at Optimus, the Prime

Could be a fake, but it looks cool (notice the rearview mirror under the armpit). I still don't dig the flames, though

Hmmm, when you're an alien machine engaged in a life or death struggle with the forces of evil, aren't you giving them an unfair advantage by exposing your inner arm machinery like that. I mean, I know that Prime once insisted on dying because he had killed some imaginary beings and so is a dick, but even so. He's begging for an Insecticon infection so he is.

Our Lady Has Left the Building

Still, if this leads to a situation where Megatron overpowers Prime by tickling him I shall be very happy, especially if it leads to a heavy metal re-enactment of the wrestling scene from Women in Love I think it was...

AT some point today apparently they will be announcing the list of characters that will be appearing in the movie. And by characters I mean the important lot, which Autobots and Decepticons from the toy line.

I've got the character list right here, with some other info culled from Cinematical.com:

# Here is a list of all Transformers robots being featured in next summer's blockbuster film (keep in mind, some of these we already knew about): Autobots: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, Ratchet (Medical officer, will not be in the form of an ambulance) and Ironhide.
# Decepticons (will not all be flying machines): Megatron, Starscream, Brawl, Bonecrusher, Barracade, Scorponok, Frenzy (started out as Soundwave, till they decided to change the character. Stealth spy) and Blackout (guy who comes in and takes out all of our abilities to fight back).
# On why some characters will not come in their classic versions (ie: Bumblebee): "Clothes don't make the man." According to the writers, regardless of what these characters are wearing, you will still be able to connect with them. Basically, all vehicle transformations were made once they started testing. They wanted the live-action to look cool and believable. Unlike the cartoon, this needed to look real. Also, some of the vehicles in the 80's (ie: Camaro) aren't as cool in 2006 as they were back then.
# Not just a guy movie, there will also be women kicking ass. Sweet!
# Dynamic between Megatron and Starscream will be alive and present. They will be as you remember them.
# On why the Decepticons outnumber the Autobots: They wanted the Autobots to be at a severe disadvantage so they really have to band together and use all their strength in order to defeat the Decepticons.
# Always on the message boards. Always looking for fan input.
# Voices are a work in progress. Everyone you want to be considered is being considered.
# Setting up a lot of threads in the hopes there will be a sequel. Hopefully, some of the characters missing here will show up in future installments.

Woah, that Blackout copter looks fuckin' harsh in robot mode. Also Scorponok's tail = boss; he looks altogether too evil to turn traitor this time about.

Really like all those robot modes, actually. Optimism rising.

Yeah, I'm really liking it too. I'm digging this 21st century look for the robots, no 1980s nostalga. they actually look alien, and I particularly like the feet. And, for those who mentioned the issues of going to battle with inner parts exposed, those guys are praticaly fighting in the nude.

I'm even coming to terms with the flame look.

I guess the remaining mistery is Megatron's design. I'll dig anything with a arm-mounted canon, and despise anything otherwise...

The robot designs are brilliant. I really like what they're doing with them. The only thing that puzzles me is that I don't see how they can possibly make toys that match the robots in the movie that can actually transform, and each one is so detailed it looks like it will be hella expensive. Seems odd that they'd shoot themselves in the foot on the merchandising.

Yeah, goddamn I want one of those on my desk right now. That thing is badass. This gives me hope for the robots in the movie. I don't really care much about Optimus changes. He looks fine to me. It's not dorky or anything.

But shit, Blackout looks tremendously evil.

Starscream toy concept, aaaand the bound-to-be-controversial Megatron model (2,3,4.) I like to think this is a Cybertronian mode, as he's apparently ice-encased in pics above, and we'll get some tank + gun-on-arm action also.

I'm liking the detail in that logo a lot but the other designs are well, meh.

FinderWolf
18:41 / 24.08.06
Megatron's face is kind of unrecognizable [from the old toys] ...ditto Starscream's entire body. But as long as Starscream's jet form looks cool, what the hell. I expect this to be a fun robo-romp regardless.

Dead Megatron
21:44 / 24.08.06
I've seen the Megatron pictures in Ain't It Cool News, befofe they pulled it out. I have to say, albeit it is a cool transforming alien robot design, it is not in any way Megatron. No arm-mounted cannon. No bucket-shaped helmet. The chrome is there, I'll give you that, but that looks more like a insectoid ape droid from some Robotech spin-off than an actual Cybetronian. I understand they are going with a more alien design for the Deceps, and I'm pefectly cool with that, but, after the great work they've done with Optimus design (I even got over the flame thing), I'm disapointed with this.

But, hey, it says "work in progress", Also, it smells a lot like misinformation, so there's still hope.

And, on the other hand, I liked Starscream. The gatling guns in the arms are kinda reminiscent of SS's original arm lasers, and it fits the "Decepticon look less humanoid than Autobots" thing they got going on. As long as the voice and the personality are right, it's allright with me.

But for Christ sake! Megatron at the end of Beast Machines looked more like Megatron than that Megatron. And I am a
Megatron myself, so I oughta know...

The Falcon

I don't know about that, DM - I think there's more than a vestige of the bucket-head in the 'battle-mode' head (pics 3 + 4, above.) But I remain optimistic he'll also have an earth-mode of some sort, though tank actually seems a bit redundant, given Brawl is one of the 'cons too. Maybe just a giant fucking gun of some sort.

Dead Megatron
22:08 / 24.08.06
Maybe just a giant fucking gun of some sort.

I hope so. The "alien jet" does seem out of character, so to speak, since other Decepticons do transform into Earth vehicles.

Maybe some sort of rocket launcher?

Dead Megatron
12:04 / 25.08.06
Yes! YES!

Ever since I first saw the supposed "Megatron" pics, something have been bugging that I could't put my finger on. A strange sense of deja-vu. Where have I seen this guy?

Now, it finally hit me.

It's not Megatron.

It's Hordak!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess this means Michael Bay is secretely making a live-action She-Ra movie.

Perhaps Megatron's new look was purposefully modelled on Heat Guy J (Minus outer skin)?

(This is what he looks like, with skin on, in case you're curious.)

They may as well called it go bots - lost in translation ..
These pics make me cringe in ways I dont want to even picture..

Prime flames .. real classy Im sure thats essential part of his ability to move better in live action..

Seriously these excuses for change of form are about as lame as some other excuses I've been hearing ..

So far Prime is about the only recognisable one i mean Star Scream ( wtf ) ??

And this is supposed to be a Spielberg infleunced film ?

If it wasnt bad enough Lucas failed at Star Wars and now this.. ?

Sheesh so far about X-men of recent times seems to be the only example of a good adaption I dont what they were thinking the original fans would think of these " innovations " but judging from the disgust on the boards not too much..

I still dont understand how their physical appearance like face or lack of it contributes to this idea it will translate better on film , I am no techy but to me they could of eaisly done the same thing with more apparent features ..

its just a fuckin shame I guess but this movie went right out the window with those pics , its like watching a present actor play a Han Solo ..

It just isnt going to happen , well not for me..

I think you and Dead Megatron should get together and start organising a campaign to show people what a travesty this is.

Dead Megatron
15:55 / 26.08.06
Shut up Flyboy! Your sarcasm is uncalled for. And you keep trying to reduce me to your prejudiced view of me. It's annoying in a very trollish kind of way. And you know it.

The movie is not a travesty for me, not as of this point. I only think Megatron's design is a mistake, is all. Other than that, 33 is not saying anything that was not spilled over by any fanboy in face of any comic book/cartoon adaptation ever made. Nothing new, nothing interesting. But 33 has the righ for hir opinion, nonetheless.

And, I have to say, I'm not getting any Spielberg influence fomr the info I get so far (he certainly would never go with the "evil bots have an alien design"* thing). It's all Michael Bay, I believe.

* except for War of the Worlds, but he was only reproducing other people designs there

Bay did war of the worlds ?

{{ shudders }}

I agree this doesnt seem Spielberg influenced but then again I dont know

20:09 / 26.08.06
Out of curiousity Dead Megatron what would you like to see ?

I mean I am not asking for a hardcore adapation of the cartoon but as you mentioned yourself they've literally turned the Decepticons into Alien / Robots .. which does not fit into G1 seris as they orginally promised..

If anything its Beastwars at best ..

I mean x men was good sort of example of tweaking i.e. not having them in their comic form but they still were true to the characters traits and appearances .

What they've done to Megatron is literally transform him ( no pun intend ) into something that is not even remotely like Megatron ..

Dead Megatron
22:54 / 26.08.06
Yeah, I don't ask much, just respect for the original source, and the intelligence of the audience. An adult, realistic* portrait of a desperate war for energy, with the 'bots we used to know. Optimus Prime design, for instance, is a big jump from the orginal, but you can see Optimus in it: a noble, pacifist leader who can still fight like no one else. The same respect all I'm asking for Megatron: a humanoid, totalitarian warlord that's cruel, ruthless, and sarcastic. And the big gun on the arm would help a lot. A LOT!

As for the rest, I'm expecing a lot of holywood one-liners, the comic relief, and stuff like that. Such things are inevitable in big blockbusters summer flicks.

Just... give us the Megatron. Not some generic bad guy with the same name. I'll be happy with that.

* as far as giant robot from outer space can be realistic, of course.

Regrettable Juvenilia
23:24 / 26.08.06
they've literally turned the Decepticons into Alien / Robots

This seems like the cruellest cut, doesn't it? To turn the Transformers, sentient mechanical beings from another planet, into alien robots, shows a real lack of understanding of the subject matter, doesn't it...

Dead Megatron
23:41 / 26.08.06
I guess 33 didn't expressed himself too well there. He probably meant non-humanoid alien robots...

Still with the sarcasm, boy?

Dead Megatron
23:45 / 26.08.06
And, also, I still have hope on Megatron. I mean, every design I've seen so far was pretty good. Even the other Decepticons, albeit very different from G1, are still prety fine, specially in vehicle mode. So, I think there's a fairly good chance that Megatron design was some sort of misinformation.

Let's keep our fingers crossed. 10 months still to go.

I just thought...what if its Megatron pre-earth form conversion?
