Carnivac?

I was thinking about Prime's actions on that infamous occasion at work the other day, and I was like - what?

Hang on - was Carnivac a lady? What about Catilla? This is all very confusing...

So, back on topic, who is going to be the love interest in the movie? I vote Springer.

Hang on, wasn't Carnivac one of the Beast Pretender things (this was roughly at the point when I was drifting away from Transformers UKlike so many other kids in favour of glue-sniffing and radical left-wing politics. Then I got off the bus and bought Eagle instead)?

Neither were ladies; both were indeed Pretender Beasts - whose 'vehicle' modes sucked immeasurably. Catilla crossed the line from Decep to Autobot (bad upbringing? I dunno,) but 'vac just hung out with Auto's and helped them and shit. And avenged Catilla at one point, iirc.

Anyway, I found a brilliant live-action transformation mpeg too.

from comics2film:

>> There's an interview with screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci over at Comingsoon.net, where the topic of characters and sequels is discussed. "The staple characters: Optimus Prime, Megatron, Soundwave, Shockwave, Starscream, Jazz," Kurtzman said. "There's going to be a lot of them. You're going to have ten Transformers in that movie, and if that's not enough, you can go see 2, 3, 4 or 5." Sorry, Red Alert.

Transformers...ROLL OUT!!!

also from the interview mentioned above:

>> "'Transformers' is very tricky, because it's a movie based on a toy line," Kurtzman told us, when asked about how hard it might be to turn the Hasbro toys into a feature film. "The first question you have to ask yourself is what's the movie? We sat down with Steven Spielberg, and we said that the action scenes in this movie are a given, but he said that that it's the story of a boy and his car and that he wants to bring back the old Amblin movies. It's 'Back to the Future'…great! We're in! It's a real challenge, because the key to making those movies work--and I totally think it's why 'War of the Worlds' works so well--is to be so invested in the people and to maintain the subjectivity of the humans. If you start 'Transformers' with giant robots sitting in a spaceship flying through space, your movie is dead in the water. It's all about keeping it at a human level, and seeing the amazing things that are going on through the eyes of the characters."

Yes, that worked so well in Masters of the Universe...

And the original Star Wars was so obviously dead in the water because of the way the opening sections focused on huge spaceships flying through space and the adventures of two robots.

And not at all the eeeeevil forces of eeeeevil (dressed in deaths head body armour) boarding and assaulting the smaller of said spaceships two minutes in, killing everyone there except the beautiful princess, who was kidnapped by the huge black-armoured leader of the eeeeevil deaths head troops?

Yes. Big spaceships, two droids having adventures. That's the entire opening of Star Wars that hooked the story onto the movie. Yes.

There is now a website with none other than Steven Speilberg himself talking about what Transformers means to him:

Steven gushes for the roll-out.

apparently there are now lots of production squabbles and major problems behind the scenes...

So Steven wants to encourage us all to play with the toys, eh? That aint going to be too difficult, is it?

BTW, how old is that "Transformers" theme tune on the two websites? I swear it's a remix, isn't it? The actual "Transformers. Robots in disguise sounds!" more electro and booted up. Sounds damn good though (the sample).

OOO, and I hope HotRod's in it! It's going to be interesting seeing real versions of Optimus Prime actually transforming before our very eyes. I can't remember all the Decepticon names, but wasn't one of them (their leader?) a gun? I wonder how that's going to be handled on the big screen; he must be a teeny-weeny robot. Cool.

from comics 2 film:

>> Go on, call it official -- director Michael Bay has said, in no uncertain terms, on his own website message board "I want to tell everyone my next movie is 'Transformers!!!' I'm really excited about it. We have been drawing for nine months. The alien robots are awesome. The script is getting very close as well. Steven Spielberg has been very involved with me on the script, working with Kurtzman and Orci who just came off of 'Mission Impossible Three.' We start shooting at the end of may for a 7-4-7 release. (How much do you want to bet 'Fantastic Four' will move after they see our stuff) We have some mindblowing images and action in this film that i know will satisfy the deep fan base and turn non-Transformer fans into one. The movie has real edge, humor and heart. There are some rabid fans out there. I just found out that we had 9,456 attempted hacks into our server that holds the movie art work just in the month of Jan. I had that server disconnected today. I will keep you in the loop weekly -- now that i just refigured how to log onto this site."

As far as I know, Megatron won't be a gun in the movie. Can't sell gun-toys to kids, apparently. Expect him to be a tank. Also, no mass-shifting (where giant robot becomes tiny... thing) so Soundwave won't be a walkman.

How sad, a gay single-parent and now his true nature is being denied. Maybe he'll turn into a big iPod or something.

Not a gun then, but a GIANT gun, on wheels.

It's not nearly so easy for a kid to lay their hands on a tank when they've listened to just enough bad rock and roll to want to massacre their classmates.

Apparently there's a leaked CGI test video Transformers shot [from the movie production team] that's leaked onto the net...? Saw a piece about it on Aint It Cool News and Cinescape.com. can't cobble a link right now but i'll try to sneak one in at work quick when i get back to my desk after lunch.

And incidentally, it looks fucking cool.

Ain't It Cool News just went online with an article with links to autobots and decepticons in vehicle mode. Purists may not like the fact that Bumblebee is no longer a VW Bug, but I liked it, specially the police car decepticon ("to punish and enslave" heh)

They are coming out with 'classic' Transformers toys soon, to coincide with the film, I saw some pics somewhere online; will try to dig them up later. They look mostly 'classic' but have made some updates. And Megatron is in the batch, he looks like a gun, but a Nerf-ed out gun so the kiddies aren't too freaked out.

And the Transformers movie is getting a special 20th anniversary DVD release, of course. I know we all had the anniversary of the animated Transformers movie on our calendars, you can feel free to admit it.

Gumbs, Brawl is an oldschool, second-gen Combaticon tank:

iirc, Megs killed him in the comic after Prime's extremely stupid suicide thing. Maybe it was Blast Off?
