Supes looks a bit young.
Good Smallville looking bits tho.
The Planet is deco-tastigreat.
Needs more Luthor.

"Eh." was my response as well. Too early to tell whether or not it will be good.

And I think Spacey looks ridiculous.

You will believe a man can fly. SuperJesus. Rapture.

Actually, I like the solemn tone, rather than a bunch of splodey punchy bang zoom business. Nice aesthetic all through. Sadly, though, quite Luthor-deficient.
Smells like Mark Waid's Superman.

I'm glad to see they CGI'ed his stupid brown eyes. Imagine that...a Superman without frickin blue eyes (Alex Ross would turn over in his grave)? Sorry I'm assuming they CGI'ed 'em but it's probably just lenses. Regardless, I'm glad they're at least trying to make him look a bit more like Chrissie Reeve.

Oh, and isn't Miss Lois Lane looking a lot like Frank Quitely's take on Superman’s lady. I keep expecting Terry Hatcher to fall through a bush or Margot Kidder to stroll into frame with a bottle of Jack Daniels in one hand and a fag in the other.

Honestly, I don't see how Singer is going to explain away Lois' 360 personally shift. She goes from a bitter, sassy wino to a saccharine, rosy-cheeked girl next door. Does anyone actually believe this girl, I forget her name, can play a hard-bitten, out-spoken, in-your-face journo? She looks downright cuddly and that's something Lois ain't.

I think that's probably the best teaser I've seen. I actually found myself welling up listening to the old score and Marlon Brando's voiceover. It's beautifully shot, the sunset and the view from space were great choices. I've been excited about this for a while and now I can't wait. The world needs Superman.

Niiiiice teaser.

Brando's voice = great. Heavy on the Christ imagery "i have sent them you, my only son."

Can't wait for the next, more substantial non-teaser trailer.

just watched it again and I'm all choked up...it's partly the legendary Williams themes and partly Brando's voice...

I watched the trailer a couple of times now. I still can't decide what I really think of it. I want to see villians, though. Everyone is just standing around in it.
However, I am starting to like Superjesus' "S" shield more and more...

I think the only villain will be Luthor (and the people of Earth as they turn against Supes, partly helped along by Luthor, for his several-year absence). Unless there's some well-kept secret super-villain we don't know about yet (which is at least somewhat likely).

Really really got me emotional.

Superb trailer... movie better not suck.

I've started watching this trailer about once a day...I really love it (especially from "They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be..." onward) I know, I'm deranged.

Singer's Superman Returns Presentation!
Source: Tim of LUZER November 19, 2005

Scooper 'Tim of LUZER' was present at last night's Bryan Singer lecture for "Princeton Library's Christopher Reeve Lecture Series" where he, joined by executive producer Chris Lee, showed the Comic-Con footage and spoke in great depth about Superman Returns (among other topics), with Chris Reeve's mom also in attendance. Here are some of the highlights from the evening:

* When a gentleman asked if the goofy aspect that he loved about the old Superman flicks would be in Returns, Bryan answered that he is trying to steer clear of "goofy" but it is definitely the most romantic and humorous film he has done to date.

* There is no truth to the rumor that there is a clause in Brandon Routh's contract to do a Superman/Batman crossover flick, only a standard Warner Brothers multi-picture deal. Although I was later told that even though it most likely will never be seen in the movie, the set was so detailed that the Daily Planet newspapers were all filled with stories, including a "Bat Creature" being spotted in Metropolis with a picture of a shadowy Batman jumping off of a building with Jimmy Olsen photo credits. Very cool. Bryan also mentioned that the only time he ever considered a Batman/Superman movie was when Wolfgang Peterson was attached, and just thought how he would do it. "Who would be the bad guy? It'd have to be Batman. But he can't be that bad...he's Batman!" He said tonight was the first time he had thought about it since then.

* As confirmed already Noel Neill (The Adventures Of Superman's Lois Lane and Lois Lane's mother in Donner's '78 film) will be making a cameo, which Bryan described as a important one, in addition to Jack Larson's cameo featured on Bryan's Video Journal #25 and in the Comic-Con footage.

* When asked about Kevin Spacey's portrayal of Lex Luthor (whether he was a scientist, billionaire, etc.), Bryan said that Lex is "fresh out of jail" and that his history with Superman and/or Clark doesn't tread one way or another over the groundwork left by Smallville. Only that the two characters have some kind of history as we join them in the movie.

* Bryan agreed with someone in the audience that the biggest change to the Superman mythos he made was giving Lois a kid with James Marsden's character (not a raised S logo). He thought this was something that you've never seen Superman deal with before that his version brought to the table. You've seen Superman save every disaster, but how would he deal with this? The world has moved on a bit, but it seems Lois has completely moved on.

* To keep Clark's disappearance under wraps, Martha Kent sent postcards to Lois during his Daily Planet hiatus. In the Comic-Con footage Martha asks Clark "What about that nice girl you used to talk about? The one you had me send post cards to?" or something to that effect.

* There's roughly 1,400 effects shots to be completed to the movie, and although obviously an expensive movie, the budget has been exaggerated a bit on the net, and is still roughly under 200 million.

* The opening credits will feature John Williams classic Superman march, with a new score by editor/composer John Ottman integrating old and new themes. I believe I also caught a mention that the opening credits will feature some of Superman: The Movie.

* There's a huge plane action scene, briefly seen in the Comic-Con footage, that may run 20-25 minutes and is going to be BREATHTAKING and UNBELIEVABLE.

* A huge amount of time and effort went into fighting gravity so there wouldn't be any "droop-age" when Superman flies, including clever camera maneuvers and several green covered men puppeteering the cape at any given time.

* Superman being able to breathe in space (and underwater) is addressed in the movie, and yes he has to breathe in Bryan's Super-World. He is "too logical" in his thinking to let these things fall under the suspension of disbelief category.

* The raised S under the suit is addressed, as is the costume's origin in some way.

* The sets are incredibly detailed, down to the stack of business cards on Perry White's desk, and some of the props have already gone on sale at the prop department for cheap as heck. (Someone has already snagged Lex Luthor's smoking jacket for twenty bucks.)

new pic found online from the film:

Supes & Lois, sittin' in a tree...

And yes, Kate Bosworth hardly looks like the tough-as-nails Margot Kidder, but hopefully the movie will still be great.

I'm glad to hear Langella's not playing White in anyone else's mode/mold. Frankly, good performances or not, new actors should be able and willing to make the role their own. No matter how good the old school Superman movies were, or how bad and unnecessary some of them were, fighting nostalgia just isn't going to ever be a battle you can win. Pillage what you can, use that to assist your take, and just move on.
That's what I'm hoping everyone does. Love letters are fine, but that sort of thing works best when you're trying to keep the level and impetus as well as the tone and the memories.

ok, it's not really toys, but merchandise (mugs, keychains, etc.)

also, given that everyone seems to think that's Brandon Routh is gay, it's rather odd that he has the following on his site, under his bio:

>> Tidbits:

- Last name pronounced like south.

- Dated Rachel Boston of NBC's American
Dreams.

Maybe it's just camoflauge to keep his personal life personal. It's hardly inconceivable to think that even if he is gay, he has dated women in his life, so maybe his is a way of reporting the truth so that the issue of his personal life is unclear and thus not potentially divisive as he's about to become a major star.

I mention this in light of all those Rich Johnston rumors from a while back about Bryan Singer wanting to have a big publicity deal about the actor he chose for Superman/Clark coming out in public right before the movie to make a statement in support of gay rights/acceptance. Guess that story was false (certainly possible given that it's just a rumor column) -- or in light of today's political climate in America, perhaps Warner Bros. has told Singer that he can't out his Superman as publicity for the movie.

I can't believe no one's going to say anything about his shit contacts!

Just look:

Was it really that difficult for Bryan Singer to find a former lover with blue eyes who he could cast as Superman? I mean really!

Yeah, I can't believe that either. Singer's gay orgy group must be full of willing young ars... I mean actors with blue eyes.

Those oversexed gays, eh? Always thinking with their dicks, and not their heads.

I know it won't happen. But I can dream.

Boboss, don't you be sarcastic with me...when I was being sarcastic in the first place! I was trying to emphasize the point that members on this board seem to be under the impression that what directors and actors do behind closed doors has any relevance with how they ply their trade or the skill with which they do so.

Is he gay...ooo, I'm sure he is...oh no, what I heard was...oh, fuck off!

I've never really got that vibe from the board. More like the shitbeards over at newsarama etc innit? You just seem be takin' passo-agresso potshots at the gayers, "but it's all a clever joooke."
