I thought we were taking passive-agressive potshots at homoPHOBES. Shit, I'm embarrassed now ...

Chikalito, please bear in mind that nothing about your post suggested you were joking, or being sarcastic, or ironic, or anything other than sincere. You might think that the intent behind your post is self-evident, but you need to be aware that you're a pretty unknown quantity around these parts, and, as such, people will tend to take what you post at face value. We've encountered this kind of misunderstanding time and again, it's the nature of message boards.

Barbelith has a grand tradition of slapping down homphobic statements hard, and I for one am happy to continue to service it. If that means a few misunderstandings a long the way, well, I'll live with that.

What Boboss said.

Chik, consider yourself lucky that B said what he did just there so early into this. You don't want to rile the Barbegods. No one with half a lick of sense should care whether or not the actor portraying Superman is homosexual. It's irrelevant to the story.

But anyway. Looking at those new pictures, I'm liking the production design more and more. I love what Parker Posey is wearing. And I'm glad Singer is not afraid to put Jimmy Olsen in a bowtie, as God intended.

Amen to the bowtie. And maybe Parker Posey's character, Kitty Kowlsowski, is a cousin of Miss Tessmacher.

I can't even think the words "Miss Tessmacher" without hearing Hackman scream "MISS TESSMACHEEEERRR!"

In the promotion pic with the full-body shot of Supes standing, Routh kind of has a 'huh?' look on his face. But otherwise it all looks pretty awesome. Not sure quite what to make of Bosworth as Lois yet, but I'm sure she'll be at least decent.

I was all gay for the first pic of supes, but now, not so much. Routh's too young and... skinny for the role. it's worse when you think about this internal continuity that puts him "coming back after 6 years"...

the other day I stumbled upon some pics of Tahmoh Penikett [BATTLESTAR GALATICA's Helo]:

and, while maybe not the right age - or hairline -, looks much more the part to me. it just bugs me that Singer HAD to go for a Reeve lookalike, not necessarily a Superman one.

kill me, I'm a nerd.

I don't agree with the "Routh is too skinny" thing because Chris Reeve was hardly Mr. Hugely Muscular in the suit either. Sure, Routh has a little less bulk than Reeve but I don't mind it so much. As for "Routh is too young," I don't begrudge Singer wanting to skew the leads a bit young...also, keeping in mind that they might do sequels (2 or 3 movies total) and the actors will age in real life, each film takes a few years to get done, etc..

Plus of course, Christopher Reeve was only about Routh's age when he made the first film, if not a little younger. But he seemed older because ... well, he was a good actor.

But getting back to TEH GAY for a second, whatever happened to Rich Johnston's rumor that there was gonna be a big press conference before the movie opened where Routh comes out and there's some sort of big media push on the part of the filmmakers on behalf of the rights of gay Jesus aliens? Because I told everyone I know that that was going to happen and now I look like an asshole.

I thought about that too. But later on came to me that it would be a bit cooler if it was done after Routh firmed himself as Supes. Not just some: -- "LOOK! <[watch]> THE <[batman]> GIRL FROM 'BATMAN BEGINS' IS DATING <[begins]> TOM CRUISE <[and]>!!! TOM <[war]> CRUISE <[of]> IS <[the]> NOT <[worlds]> GAY <[now!!!]> AFTERALL!!!"

I've just watched X2 again and seems to me Singer pretty much knows what he's doing.

I just think it's really weird those Bosworth pictures of her dressed up as a grandmother with those colors, necklace, hair... (stupid thing to say, i know, but it's the only one that came to mind right now after seeing those pics). I thought they were going to update somehow to something more like ASS.

I got tired of complaining about Routh. There's still too little to judge and see from. I'd still complain about the photos, the suit, the body dot dot dot. But on film might be somehow different (only REAL complain is that from the teaser, he reminded me a bit of Jason Schwartzman from "Rushmore"... don't ask me why. Don't know either).

>> whatever happened to Rich Johnston's rumor that there was gonna be a big press conference before the movie opened where Routh comes out and there's some sort of big media push on the part of the filmmakers on behalf of the rights of gay[s]?

I wondered about this too and mentioned it a page or two ago on this thread - time will tell, although I would imagine Warner Bros. might have talked Singer out of it by now or simply told him 'you can't do this.' I imagine the idea would strike terror into the hearst of most WB suits.

I had a dream about Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, the good kind of dream that may involve me changing the sheets...

Ahem, anyway, I think there are few people that I would want more to be Lex Luthor. Say what you will about Spacey (Pay it Forward), but he is the perfect Luthor.

I've never really got that vibe from the board. More like the shitbeards over at newsarama etc innit? You just seem be takin' passo-agresso potshots at the gayers, "but it's all a clever joooke."

No. No clever jookes or gay-targeted potshots, nothing as arbitrary. I'm sorry if my post didn't put across a greater sense of irony or that the presence of sarcasm wasn't more evident. It was my fault...I should have ended my post with something to convey this better, a smiley face with a winking eye, perhaps. And you're right, newsarama and aintitcool are bursting at the seems with overweight teenage bigots who will make it plainly clear that they would never see Superman because of the company Bryan Singer keeps. I just don't want this board degenerating to that point...you know the point, where posters quote tabloid articles and go into unapprised discussion about how Trish, mah neighbor’s husband Fred heard from Carol down at the local truck stop that Seymour who works in Admin had a threesome with Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey. I was just hoping people would leave this “Is He or Isn’t He” shit for lesser boards (this includes deliberations about the likelihood of Parker Posey being a pre-op transexual with OCD).

No one with half a lick of sense should care whether or not the actor portraying Superman is homosexual. It's irrelevant to the story.

Exactly.

hm, if nothing else studios usually enlarge tits like they did with Scarlet Johanson, don't they?

Scarlett Johansson Shocked By Her Own Breasts

"The Island" actress Scarlett Johansson recently confessed she almost had a car accident when she saw how big her breasts were on a giant advert with herself.

"The Island" actress Scarlett Johansson recently confessed she almost had a car accident when she saw how big her breasts were on a giant advert with herself.

Johansson was driving through Los Angeles when she saw the poster from "The Island", where the picture of her breasts was digitally modified to promote the movie. The actress confessed she's still in shock since then.

She said: "I was driving through Los
Angeles and I look up and see the biggest photo of me I have ever seen in my life on a massive ad space.

I screamed and slammed on the brakes. I couldn't believe it. It's very strange to see my cleavage the size of a brontosaurus. My breasts were huge. I had long hair and my goodness, I couldn't get past the cleavage."

"The Island", in which Scarlett stars alongside Ewan McGregor, has flopped at the US box office.

Scarlett declared she found it difficult filming the spectacular action scenes, because her legs couldn't take the constant exertion.

She says, "My knee was permanently bruised. I hit my head once. That was bad. It could have been my eye. Ewan had it just as bad. He had some pretty gross, gory wounds. But we were the casualties of war, I guess.

You can't complain. Time is money on a movie set. A couple of times I'd be in so much agony but you just keep doing it."

I see that Cameron Stewart drew a Superman Returns-themed pin-up, either for DC or Newsarama...I'll post it when I have a moment to cobble together the link. It's a lot of fun. (I think Cam drew it, that's what the signature looks like to me)

Cameron, if you're out there, it seems Newsarama has removed its holiday gallery from their main page of news items (the holiday gallery was on there about 3 days ago), and I remember that gallery featuring a fun pin-up by you (or at least it seemed your style and the signature at the bottom seemed to be yours, even though it was tiny, I thought I could make it out) of Clark & Lois with a Superman Returns theme. It was a great pin-up, and I wanted to post it in the Superman Returns movie thread, but now I can't find it. Was it really you who did it, and can you put it up there?

Did anyone else see this pic, by the way? It was Clark & Lois at a desk at the office... Lois smiles smugly, drinking from a mug that reads "I'm #1" and Clark using his x-ray vision on a small boxed & wrapped gift (apparently from Lois), revealing a mug which reads "I'm #2". Snow falls outside the window and a newspaper on Clark's desk reads "SUPERMAN RETURNS IN 2006", with the "S" logo from the movie as a color photo on the front page of the paper.

The new Wizard has 28 pages of coverage on the movie, and surprisingly (given that it's Wizard), it contains a great deal of actual substance, fun interviews with Spacey, Routh, Singer & Bosworth, etc. Very very psyched for this film.

And it seems it won't have a super-baddie - just Lex, maybe armed with some kryptonite or something (and twisting public opinion to be anti-Superman). I don't think those are spoilers since we all know those factors must come into play here.

Yeah, Routh did an intro. bit at the Globes with Teri Hatcher...he wasn't wearing the Kent glasses and Hatcher said something like "I have some experience in this genre, maybe this can help..." and put the glasses on him. Cheesy but cute.
