This is it, everyone. The end of New X-Men!

Here's an image from the issue. It comes with a pretty huge SPOILER warning.

Ha! Now, I'm so glad they got Silvestri to draw this.

SPOILERS.

It's the Goblin Queen!

No, totally is, but Silvestri adds that GQ flair.

If the final battle of Grant's X-Men run is Logan vs. Jean at the end of the universe, then... Well, that's pretty cool. I'm sure they'll kiss and make up, though.

Jesus, I don't see how his run could possibly conclude any better, given what has been presented thus far.... WOW.

Just bumping this up, since soon soon soon it'll be here! (Well, two months, but I couldn't find a thread for NXM 153 and we are discussing this storyline a lot.)

bumpety-bump. So what's the cover of this final issue, I wonder?

If I was going to bet, I'd put my money on the Phoenix.

That, or a group shot would be even nicer...

It's a picture of Grant Morrison rubbing all his lovely money, with a speech bubble saying "So you want answers? Well FUCK YOU readers!" The comic is a single panel of grant swimming in his money, scrooge mcduck style.

I'm not getting anything from that link. Is it working for others? Or can anyone provide an alternative?

Thanks.

You're not missing anything, Houdini. It was the final panel of #153, which at the time was said to be from #154.

I've just finished reading issue 152 (I live in a third world country). Half way through, on the double page spread, I started noticing something. I don't know what happens after 152 and whether I'm just grasping at straws but did anyone else notice the Wizard of Oz thing (the books not the movie, seeing as my supposition includes Ozma and Tok-tok). On that double page, they set out along the yellow brick road to find the Wizard/Dark Beast/Wicked Witch and there they are. Tom Skylark is Dorothy, who arrives on the scene, sort of confused and new to everything, along with her little dog Toto or in this case his enormous robot dog Rover (the Sentinel could also represent Tok-tok). Next to Tom, you find E.V.A or in Oz context the Tin Woodsman. Then there's Wolverine, the cowardly lion. A once glorious warrior reduced to nothing more than an old woman's toothless watchdog. And finally you get the Scarecrow who is represented by New Beak. He's tough on the outside but inside he's just a scared little child trying to live up to his grandfather's legend. Oh, and Cassandra with Martha in hand is of course (of course!) Glenda the Good Witch with the ruby slippers (or a brain for E.V.A perhaps). They each, like their Wizard of Oz counterparts, are searching for something. Wolverine wants to relive his past glory and he wants to be the hero again (courage?). E.V.A, like the Tinman wants a brain or in her case a central nervous system, more specifically the nervous system of Fantomex. Beak's little parallel doesn't pan out as well as the others but it still kinda makes sense. He wants a heart and well...no it doesn't pan out at all. And then finally Martha (is that name even correct). She seems inconspicuous but maybe her part will be just as important as her equivalent, the ruby slippers. Even Cassie said it; she'll be the engine. They even start out in Munchkin-ville (?) and when they embark along the brick road, they are even cheered on by Munchkins. They don't skipping along on their way because this isn't The Wizard of Oz; it's the edgy gothic revamp of the classic children’s tale, ooo dangerous. If you need any more to convincing you can just cast a glance in the direction of the Beast/Sublime. I mean come on...his castle looks almost exactly like The Wicked witch's. He even uses flying monkeys to do his bidding (maybe that witch was a wayward geneticist herself) for Pete’s sake. If hidden allusion and seditious analogies to The Wizard of Oz was good enough for Pink Floyd then I'm sure Morrison wouldn't mind recycling these stale ideas again for his own nefarious ends (like usual).

P.S. Phoenix is Ozma.

'Here Comes Tomorrow' is really 'The Wizard of Oz' with superheroes?

Oh fuck, yeah. Oh, fuck, yeah!

I'm serious. I think that that's genius.

'I think I'll miss you most of all, Bird Junior...'

Don't recall a scene where Dorothy snogs the Tin Man and Toto commits suicide, mind, but still...

Genius! :-D

Quinton Quire, little precog scamp. "Manhattan is gone, the school is enormous." He'll wait in the room that's larger than the world, in the white-hot room. He also mumbles something about not even being born yet and something about his parents. Who were his parents anyway? Was it ever disclosed? The White-hot room will play an important part in the resolution of this arc. It's been hinted at since the very beginning. Jean even went there to spread Xavier's consciousness before one of Cassandra's defeats ("white-hot claws"). Just before Quire’s death says something to the effect that humans weren’t the enemy. Isn’t Sublime, in principle, human?
Oh, and Cassandra Nova could definitely be one of those feeder things. "I am what eats your mind,” she admitted in 114. So that would mean in Part 4, Sublime somehow sends a feeder into the womb of Sharon Xavier in the hope of thought-eating the world's most powerful telepath in his infancy or maybe she ends up in a sewer with false memories of her conception and her hereditary link to Xavier, counting down the days. Why anyone would want to go for a trite "Back to the Future" themed finale (or a Legion Quest rerun) is beyond me?
Speaking of Sublime, I think that character was the most self-important flight of fancy Morrison could ever have come up with. He needed a crazy geneticist/eugenicist that would play the central figure in the conclusion of his X-men run but instead of demeaning himself by using other “stupid” writers characters who fit the bill (Sinister and Apocalypse), he comes up with some lame mish-mash of the two.

In addition, I agree totally with everyone who thinks Igor’s art sucks (wonder if he’s wanted a talent graft all his life as well. The only penciler that has ever made Morrison's work standout has been Jean Giraud-lite, Frank Quietly.

I don't think Igor's work "sucks", far from it. He was given those issues in a rush under late deadline. Check out his work on CABLE for a sample of what he can do when he has appropriate amounts of time. And Marvel did screw him over, it seems, even if his complaining online seems a little excessive in certain points. (no threadrot, just wanted to address that - we have a separate thread for discussing Igor's firing, I believe.)

Anyway, #154 is coming soon - yaay!! Anyone know exactly when it comes out??

I hope this isnt a bad place to put this....
NXM 154 will mark the end of an era in X-men, for me. I love everything I have read with GM's name on it....when I found out he would be writing NXM a ways back, I couldnt believe it. I knew I would love it. And I did. I loved how it wasnt just "spandex and evil mutants". I liked how he explored that the school was really a "school" and treated like one for once. I liked how he took the decades long romance of Jean and Scott and shook it up with none other then Emma (who turned out to be my favorite of them, save for Xorn). And having been a long time reader of X-men(since 83 I think?), I personally feel that this was the best run ever in all those years. Dont get me wrong, I liked Claremont a lot back then. When he left, I began to slowly lose interest in the x-books altogether(I just hated that whole upstarts/acolytes thing). Then after years it seemed, he came back. But it seemed his return just came into the book, and out (was the neo storyline ever resolved? did it ever say what happenned to Kitty when she left the space station in that funky suit?)
Where the next writers will take NXM now is beyond me. I feel the GM era is a story all unto itslef. I hate that he is leaving, if I could pay him to stay , I would

I agree totally. Claremont's return was horrible, and made me lose interest in the X-Men for awhile (until Grant Morrison came aboard).

This whole May Reload event will be an Unload event for me it seems... We'll see...

As for Kitty... she left the X-Men and went to school when Colossus died. Between that and the space ship thing... I have no clue.

But what about those X-Men that died during Fall of the Mutants? Then they were brought back in Australia, unable to be detected by electronic equipment, fighting the reavers, etc (another X-Men era I have no problem forgetting). Do they still have those abilities?

I remember it carrying over a few story arcs, but I dont remember it ever being mentioned in Extreme X-men...and If I recall correctly..I think there was some big fight in madripoor( in extreme), with aliens or something, and rogue was on tv...so I guess she lost her "electronic invisibility"? Another example for me how poopy Claremont turned out:| I was making an effort to read extreme, solely because of him...but I was let down by that too, so hard IMO to compete with the things GM was doing....

Incidentally, I was picking up the GM runagain tonight....anyone notice in issue 114 (or is it 115?) Emma's telepathy class( "lets prod into the minds of our favorite celebrity "or something like that...)i am sure its just a fluke and Im digging for something here..but...that looks an AWFUL lot like Dust in the classroom, behind Nega-sonic-teenage-warhead....
I still refuse to believe he will be leaving NXM..making it ....I cant begin to say it.....sighs...

Dust came out of that scene, GM liked the visual and made a character around it.

But I should mention that it isn't the same person, just the inspiration.

The X-men/recording devices thingy was gotten rid of but for the life of me I can't remember how/why/when...

I was being safe with numbers because I wasn't sure when I wrote the post - several thousand can equal several million, but if I said several million and I overshot (which is what I was afraid of), the numbers wouldn't work out the same.

Hopefully I will get an advance copy of Part 4 this week for my store. Here's hoping that Marvel doesnt attempt to be clever and not put out a preview copy of 154!
