I wonder if Grant has any idea he's made chains such a hot topic over here at the 'Lith ---

yeah, Beak always wore that punk rocker big-ass heavy chain with the lock around his neck.

There's another page from this issue up now at a Grant interview at www.comicbookresources.com showing some guy in an X-jacket and a woman character who looks like the Authority's Engineer fighting sentinels.

I love how the grown-up Beak looks like an Eagle (*** Horus, anyone? ***) and not like a chicken as he looks now.

Yeah, but the chain on young, skinny, teenage Beak looks punk rock cool. The chain on ultra-buff, adult, member of Team Bloodstrike looks like the guy from Naughty by Nature.

I'm hoping by the 10th page of this thread to have every page on display. Oh, and look! The Authority to the rescue!

Jesus Silvestri ROCKS. Nightclops' are cool.

Those Engineer-type women ARE sentinels - we've seen the next page of this issue where they fight the Nightclops. Perhaps someone could put links to all the other pics from NXM151 from other threads in this thread.

I can't find the links - but the pics were posted on the CBR forum in August, and I'm sure i'd have access them here. The first page shows the boy in the Cerebra-style helmet looking up at 'his' sentinel amidst the ruins of the Xavier Institute. There were also two panels from the page immediately after the one posted above, showing the Nighclops firing their optic blasts and fighting with the female super-sentinels. I'd assume they were also taken from Wizard, as one of the panels is captioned, explaining that the Cyclops/Nightcrawler hybrids are evil while the sentinels are good. The story is set 100 years in the future.

wow.

a 22 page preview of #151 in Wizard at the end of the year. 22 pages???? isn't that like the the entire comic?

I'm pretty sure the fellow in the helmet is the kid from the new series "Sentinel" all growed up like. The helmet is probably some means of controlling/communicating with Clifford the Big Purple Robot.

Rawk'n'Roll
08:38 / 06.10.03
I think that rumour has already been debunked. The helmet is a portable Cerebra and the Sentinel kid is not available for Grant to play with (even if he wanted to).

Rawbus is correct - Grant had finished up to #152, as far back as 14 months ago, according to his last column on his website, and that was a long time before the kid from Sentinel (a non-Morrison creation) debuted.

Yeah, Wizard started a trend of previewing the entire issue back with Geoff Johns' first issue of Avengers. I just bought the Wizard issue with the preview and then skipped the actual issue when it came out, since I already had the whole story! I'm tempted to do this with the NXM issue in question.

Main thing that'll probably keep ME from reading the preview issue, is the fact that the said Wizard issue comes out November 26th, a week or so after NSM #149, and I'm assuming there's a possibility the start of #151 could relate to/spoil the ending of #150. Anyone else assuming the same?

Could do, yeah.

It's just... the thought of there being 22 pages of GM goodness out there, and me not reading it would make me feel ill.

And much as I detest Wizard, and their Wizardy ways, I'll still likely fork out for the bastard.

01:12 / 07.10.03
Part of me is tempted, but still I feel almost obligated to wait for the issues actual release... anyone feel the same? I don't get these full issue "previews" anyway... it's not a fuckin' preview, it's the WHOLE ISSUE!!

Rawk'n'Roll

Why buy Wizard when you can read it in-store and everyone here will post full spoilage anyway?

Well I just read some supposed spoilers for this arc. If they're true our speculation of how Planet X ends is way off.

OK well first off this isn't firsthand information - the source is the CBR forum. The rumour has been mentioned in passing on this board before ... I'll assess what I make of it after the alleged spoilers.

WARNING potential spoliers for Planet X as well as the final arc.

Please note this is totally unsubstantiated... And English is not the first language of the poster who supplied these alleged spoilers - which seems to make it less likely they're true - so they're slightly confusing to follow.

Planet X ends with Esme fighting the remaining three Cuckoos who realise her plan is to take over earth with Magneto. The psychic battle creates a time portal - Wolverine, the Cuckoos and John Sublime jump in and are scattered across the USA 180 years in the future.

Magneto has frozen (cryogenically?) himself and the New Brotherhood - so he can be reanimated once the earth has been remade (presumably to escape the after effects of reversing the poles).

But in destroying the mansion he somehow allows Cassandra Nova to escape her psychic prison and take control of Stuff's mind and body. By the time Magneto is revived Nova is strong enough again to oppose him and take over.

The Nightclops and other Nightcrawler variants are supposedly mutant/sentinel hybrids created by John Sublime. Nightcrawler is the base mutant type used because his DNA is so maleable.

As the Phoenix, Jean has become an elemental being/force that exists inside all mutants.

At some point Wolverine has grown a new body back from just a leg.

The story covers five years as the X-men gather recruits to take out one remaining time portal. Wolverine finally escapes back in time - due to Beak sacrificing himself.

This resets the clock back 181 years (the start of Morrison's run?) - and the arc closes with the New X-men team going their separate ways with Xavier thanking them for their help and making some remark about is the future something he is protecting or hiding.

My initial trection is to dismiss this as fanboy rumour based on the preview pages we've seen so far. But even though the signs were there all along I missed that Xorn was Magneto.

HOWEVER ... a few things seem to go against what we've been told about the final arc.

1. The Phoenix - Morrison says the final arc is his final word of the Phoenix and explores the responsibilities of the wielder of that power. He has also mentioned showing what happens if Jean becomes a goddess. So I envisaged her as some sort of cosmic guardian of earth/mutantkind, perhaps having to the wrestle with the decision to unmake the future because mutantkind has become so aggressive.

There's a big hint in NMX148, which I've read, that the final arc involves a struggle between Jean's human side and her Phoenix self. And as Wolverine says in NXM148 the power of the Phoenix could remake the universe - presumably this is what happens at the end of the future arc if history is remade/unmade, rather than someone going back in time to change the future.

I suppose it's possible that the dissinfection of mutantkind the Shi'ar have mentioned involves the Phoenix buring out the kick in mutantkind and leaving some of its essense in the drug's place. But how can Scott chose between Jean and Emma if Jean is now an elemental force inside the whole population of earth?

2. Cassandra Nova - how does she break free of the psychic prison? Isn't she being reprogrammed by the Cuckoos' telepathic classroom? I wondered whether, now reprogrammed, she is might be helping the X-Men rather than trying to conquer the world.

3. The time portal - I know this is meant to be Grant's Days of Future Past, but wouldn't that involve someone travelling back from the future rather than being flung into the future ... which seems more like the Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix. Although that mini-series had a very similar sounding story. And I can somehow imagine Morrison using a psychic battle to explain a time portal opening.

4. John Sublime - where does he come from in Planet X to get flung into the future? Presumably he is the mysterious figure we see on the screen in the Weapon Plus HQ - Dr Sublime - in NXM145? Has he been using Magneto as much as Magneto appears to have been exploiting Weapon Plus?

I'd envisaged the end of Planet X being Jean/Phoenix burning the kick out of mutantkind. (And perhaps preventing magneto from reversing the poles.) And I imagined the future arc to explore the final days of humanity, but show how the U-Men have evolved into fusing different types of mutants together rather than grafting mutant bodyparts onto humans.

However, I could be wrong... I have no explanation as how some of the X-Men are still alive 180 years in the future, unless it has something to do with the Phoenix. Time travel is certainly one explanation.

So what does anyone else think of these rumours - does any of this seem likely or just fanboy bollocks?

See, maybe now it'd be best not to speculate about what will happen four issues from now and just focus on one issue at a time. Obviously, Planet X is going to keep throwing us curveballs - I know what happens in 148, and that already throws off a lot of speculation.

Two posters wanted to know these alleged spoilers, so I shared them. And you were obviously interested enough to read them as well.

And yes, as I already said, NXM148 suggests these supposed spoilers for the next arc are most probably mere speculation.

Rawk'n'Roll

I've read the spoilers on CBR already. Not convinced. But if it is true I think I'd be quite disappointed with this outcome. Way too convoluted.

Well yes, I can't see how what NXM148 sets up in NXM150 can turn out like this.

I don't buy it.

But I never bought Xorn=Magneto. At the time I read those spoilers, they seemed as unlikely/stupid as these. Hope this isn't true.

To save you all the trip:

It’s the early favorite for the comic book event of 2004 as industry giant Marc Silvestri returns to the X-Men for Grant Morrison’s final story arc and instant classic, "Here Comes Tomorrow!" In the tradition of "Days of Future Past," take a look into the X-Men’s future. Society has crumbled, the human race is all but decimated, and mutants have evolved far beyond their imagined potential. But throughout the years, the dream of one man long dead still remains true — that of Professor Charles Xavier and of the X-Men!
