I really wish I had a scanner right now, because there is an unbelievable image in this new issue of Wizard. It's a Marc Silvestri full page illustration of a grown up and badass looking Beak, an older Wolvie, and I kid you not Cassandra Nova holding Martha in her hands!!!

Again, I say, WTF???

oh, digital camera, how i love thee....forgive the blurriness and glare.

Holy X-Pic, Magneto

Oh, and forgive me if there is already a topic for this issue. I looked and looked and couldn't find one. I thought someone had posted Silvestri images, too...

Whoa that is interesting.

Makes you think of possible parallels between Ernst and Cassandra.

Holy FUCK that is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and is that A GIGANTIC FUCKING FOOT BEHIND LOGAN?

Good lord, Grant. You need to stop stroking my inner fanboy off. I'm running out of spoo.

Okay, as you can see by the abundance of posts, my imagination is in full overload at this point, contemplating what kind of dismal awful future this is, taking into account the other Wizard picture with the giant Sentinel and the X-Man with Pocket PCerebra and I'm thinking of the disollution (sp?) of Chuckle's dream and how God Damned awful that is. Is Logan under Cassie's control? Either way, it's hugely awful.

Erik will probably die in Planet X but it will be too damned late.

I'm seeing some kind cosmic positive close with the Phoenix, maybe? It smacks of the best aspects of Giffen's run on LOSH.

God, talk about your unfounded speculation. Anyway.

My one request: REINSTATE THE CAPITAL LETTERING! FOR GOD'S SAKE! HEED MY WARNING MARVEL! THERE WILL BE NO LOWERCASE IN THE FUTURE OF THE MUMMUDRAI.

i actually love the upper/lower lettering of marvel these days...

any good text bit from Morrison in that article, Keith?

Keith,

You're mad! Check out Vol. 1 of NXM. It's got the best lettering ever, perfectly suited to the story, futuristic, slick, clean.

I just don't get the same vibe with lowercase. It only works in Achewood.

For me, at least.

Anyone steppin' to the Beak? I didn't think so.

Hard. As. Fuck.

Jack Denfeld
03:18 / 25.09.03
I'd rather have a nerdy geek Quentin. Not sure I like the Liefeld ultra-buff Beak.

Maybe the picture is just like a condensation of a whole bunch o' various stuff from Grant's NewXMen run. Then again, maybe not. Beak does look Hard As Fuck indeed. Does he still have feathers on his arm/wing things, or not? I can't really tell.

Yotsuba & Benjamin!
03:47 / 25.09.03
It looks like he's still got the feathers.

hmmmm...beak. THATS FUCKIN AWESOME. seems like he's got the whole secondary mutation thing going on like beast. yeah... secondary mutations make you MORE BADASS. nevermind that. HE'S GOT THE BAT!

Jack Denfeld
04:12 / 25.09.03
And the fucking chain. What's with all these mutants and their chains?

Is Logan under Cassie's control?

Here's what I think: Cassandra Nova has been successfully rehabilitated. In other words, the 'teaching' process that began in #126, as soon as she was trapped in Stuff's body, has reached fruition.

I say this because there was an interview with Morrison regarding Silvestri's art where he talked about "the sexiest 'let's-go-to-work' two-page spread of the X-Men I've ever seen" (paraphrasing) -presumably this is it. Which means this is half the line-up of the X-Men in this future...

Let's start speculating about the other half... Quentin, back from the 5th dimension? Sophie Frost-Summers?

Oh, and look: Beak's got his special baseball bat back.

Rawk'n'Roll

i'm thinking the obvious similarities between Ernst and Cassie are addressed. I remember thinking perhaps thats Cassandra in Stuff's body. De-aged and learning Xavier's way. Or Magneto's?

Aaaaargh!

This is getting like the x-fan boards, but...

SHIT THE CHRIST!

Glad I got that off my chest.

I can't get over Beak. Beak!

I don't like his ponytail though.

It IS a bit BEAK RULLLLZZZZ at the mo, isn't it ?

Maybe it's a Days Of Future Past type thing... though given that and the previews in the NXM 147 thread, it all looks a bit too much as if things are going Maggy's way, hope it doesn't turn out to be a trick like that at the end of Zenith...

And I hope we don't see the return of Quire - never understood the interest in that character, to be honest; he seemed to have no plan other than to oppose Xavier, and to take over the School, neither of which are exactly well-thought out plans. Smacked of adolescent rebellion to me, and I felt the character was only really interesting in the few pages before he died with his own 'words from the future'. Otherwise, it was all a bit Magneto-lite for my tastes - "the worst are full of passionate intensity" and all that.

I'm going on record and saying Flyboy is 110% Right.

And now my brain has officially melted. Now this little throw off "unconventional ending" of Imperial has become as potentially cool as (ALERT, DC 1,000,000 SPOILER, LOOK AWAY IF NECESSARY FOR SOME REASON) as the "kryptonite bullet".

I was reminded of the end-stage of 'Zenith' too - which I really liked, what with the Lloigor doing all sorts of nasty/interesting reality-restructuring before heading outwards towards the edge of the Universe...

I'd really be quite happy if Morrison's NXM run ended like that.

Not if it *all* turned out to be a delusion with which Xavier was fooling Erik straight after the end of #146, though...

Beak's appearance is meant to be OTT, I reckon. He's quite a funny character, y'know, and for him to suddenly be this muscleman with military gear and a GRRR! IMAGE ROCK! haircut is priceless.

there is nothing earth shattering in the grant interview. the only thing he says related to this storyline is something like "it takes place in the future, and there is a new x-men team, and it's not necessarily who you would think." oh, and that the storyline is his final statement on Phoenix.

it's certainly shaping up to be a nutty storyline, eh?

Just picked this up. The best part is there's this little kid in the background with his fist in the air, watching them walk by. Nice.

Holy fucking shit. This is awesome. Thanks for posting the digicam scan of the page in question.

Also, did you see that an upcoming issue of WIZARD will have a full preview of the ENTIRE issue of NXM #151?? Probably coming out a month before the actual issue debuts on the stands. Very tempting, methinks...although in the past I've either held out for the actual issue or bought the WIZARD full-issue preview and then not just bought the issue itself.

LOVE THE BEAK!!! AND HIS BAT!!! Cassandra post-rehab + Martha free from Magneto's influence?? Fucking cool.

[Ahh, the mention of DC ONE MILLION brings a smile to my heart. I've been thinking in recent months about how much I liked this little-appreciated, little-discussed Grant Morrison JLA gem and how much I want to get and re-read the paperback (I have the individual issues but they're waaaay tucked away in my 25 comic boxes somewhere...) Remember the golden sunshine Superman entity at the end merging with Lois? Good times...]

Well at least we know that The Beak isn't going to put up with Maggie's shit for too long. I wonder if his TITANIUM baseball bat will come into play in Planet X? Oh, the irony. Mags gets laid out with a metal bat.

Hint: There is a real Xorn.

He's in the chains.

Actually, that's the chain Beak's been wearing since his first appearance.
