All past beards are one beard.
This is only true inasmuch as all faces are one face, or all souls are one soul. There is a connection, yes, between all beards, and all souls - something deeper than mere membership in a category.
Yet to deny the difference in beards is to ignore all cases of beardedness, of the variety of beards. Some are public, some are private, for example. And even enfolded in the dark, private embrace of the face, the secret beards are as different from one another as hair is from hair, united only by the common shroud of darkness. To the fingers, however, it becomes as clear as day that the sinuous curl of one secret beard is eternally sundered from the face which bears its public cousin. The marriage between beards, secret face with outer face, is a very real phenomena, at least as far as the sensitive fingers of the stroking perceiver are concerned.
