I had to go to the store to get dog food, due to a previous error. I did not want to go. But I left right at sunset, with the deep shadows of west ridges laying skewed across east ridges still glowing in low-angle sun, shining on the rich fall leaves, and I was listening to Sufjan Stevens "They also mourn the dead who do not wear black", which was somehow perfect. It's nice in life when things seem right for a minute or two.

The exhaustion of sitting at the computer writing essays has been brightened a little today by the discovery that there exists a feminist bookshop / coffee house called A Room of One's Own. I wish it was local and not thousands of miles away.

The book also gives me quite a happy (alongside the rage), but isn't really an option right now.

On youtube there exist, apparently, a great number of people who post videos of great old songs from their record collections playing. I find this completely charming.

Ooh, the wireless keyboard works, fixing for ever (please gods) my recent keyboard woes. i can watch eastenders (he just hit her! the swine.) and type with the keyboard on my knee and the laptop way over there. mazing. (good, he's been arrested by the hunky new copper. who's also a copper in the bill. confusing.)

and i got a new job which is more money than i thought when i applied for it, and i don't have to move house for it. though at least i can afford to if i want to.

ooh the action on this keyboard's very nice, less than twelve pound from argos, mighty recommended.

and 'special blend' tea in the supermarket on the corner is cheaper than the regular stuff, and it's nice.

oh, and the mouse works.

and she's slept really well since the clocks went back.

and my new nicky clarke (yes, nicky clarke) clippers buzzed my hair last night in minutes flat, and i am smooth and sexyouell again.

and it's my favourite time of year - [erfect for ghost stories and cuddling on the sofa.

and haxan was fantastic the other night.

and the cat's being very friendly and cuddly in that sweet cold evenings way they have.

i could go on. a million happys going on at the moment. i hope you're all feeling good too.

apparently, when negotiating your current (volunteer) job, it helps to mention that you got an offer to go teach kids to build robots.

current package is that I start getting paid with benefits immediately and then next year if I feel like bailing on these guys and building robots with kids for the new semester, everything's cool.

there was another one of those embarrassing moments when they asked me how much money I wanted and I thought of more than I needed and then added some, and then they all laughed at me and said I was being ridiculous and the minimum salary for my new job is $10,000 a year more than that. oh. well, that'll work too, then.

there was also some speeching about careers and leadership and opportunities. how do people pay attention to that shit? I guess it gave me an opportunity to zone out while I made my decision.

ooh! and the heat's finally come on at work.

That’s nice. I forgot my cats’ last birthday and didn’t get them anything. But then I remembered that their worming was due, so they each had a tablet shoved down their throat.

Happy Birthday Squeena!

Happy yesterday's birthday, Sheena.

My happiness is due to having rung up someone to say "Hold the front page!" in all seriousness, and indeed, in need of having the front page held. Well, with as much seriousness as one can utter that particular sentence.

Mistoffelees
16:27 / 31.10.07
And I thought that sentence is "Stop the presses!". But I googled it: your sentence gets 52 million results, mine a measly 606.000.

Interesting. I will have to make sure I get to stop the presses one day as well. Thankfully I was quicker this time around.

Yay! Fred Phelps sued for eleven million bucks.

This Sunday
23:44 / 31.10.07
I read the above weirdly, and thought Phelps won eleven million. Like a lottery or something (I just work up, little bit not sober), a gift to him from some admiring also-an-asshole.

Phelps being sued for eleven million and the other party winning is so so so much happier-making. Even moreso than if I'd read it right the first time.

Please don't let this show die like so many awesome others before it. It makes me happy in a very simple goofy way.

Kangarou- the headline here today on the BBC is Huge fine for anti-gay US church, a bit more forthright than the Yahoo headline- which gave me a happy!

"It will take the 4th Circuit of Appeals a few minutes to reverse this silly thing," said Rev Phelps.
You reckon, Fred? Hahahahaha, 'Do not bring your circus of hate to Maryland again' hahaha...

Also in the news, ITN said-

"David Beckham has beaten off stiff competition to be voted the most masculine man of the year."

Hahahaha, do you think that's deliberately funny?

I'll bet it is- it's one of my favourite things about my job. Whenever there's an awards ceremony that phrase gets used inappropriately SO often. It shows up in one of the papers at least once a week- spotting them's become something of a sport in the office. My personal favourite- "Doctor Who has beaten off Ant and Dec at this week's (whatever award) ceremony". That one was a couple of years ago and has yet to be bettered. I'm guessing the journos do this stuff on purpose- hence the rest of the sentence being equally smutty.

(This week we were all looking for it, what with the TV awards, but instead Ant and Dec were "braced for humiliation" following the recent TV phone-in scandals...)

...but I worked out how to turn the voicemail off in the first two minutes, so now no one can bother me with annoying pointless messages about how my phone is turned off.

Win.

Hey! There was a ladybug in my salad today.

That's gotta be a good omen, right? Anyway it was cute crawling around on my hand. I put it on a plant in our office though I suspect it won't do well in here. Seems too cold outside though.

I'm realizing I love the way some cool webcomics always link me to more cool webcomics.

My work productivity is severly hindered by such fact, granted, but thankfully enough, I'm currently (and acceptably succefully) self-employed at the moment, which also gives me a happy.
