As for this, I don't know if it'll help stop crime, but it's rather wonderful none the less.

A vending-machine dress, the brainchild of clothing designer Aya Tsukioka, could offer a woman walking alone a way to elude pursuers.

Holy crap. It is funny, but how can anyone think it is helpful in providing safety for "women walking alone a way to elude pursuers"? That is ridiculous. A walking vending machine? It is more like a beacon! Especially if you can't spit out pop cans and candy bars! Not to mention the neat little tent it provides for rapists.

If anything you'd think a rapist would disguise themselves as a coke machine.

I think it has a lot of value - Lacanian value, but value none the less.

I'm so chuffed that I'm studying for a degree that watching The Singing Detective can be considered research.

Good God, that series is good, I've wanted to see it for years, I'm glad I finally got the impetus. Describing it as a cross between Neon Genesis Evangelion and The Filth seems wrong because it happened a good decade before even the earliest of those.

In other news, Britney Spear's newest album isn't that bad. It sure ain't great, but I enjoy the hell out of it.

That's weird. I was just downstairs making a bagel thinking about how fucking great The Singing Detective is and how I really should set aside some time to watch it again soon.

Now I'm up here, reading this post about how you love The Singing Detective too.... WHILE I'M EATING THAT SAME FUCKING BAGEL!

Hrmmmm....maybe that means I should actually watch it while taking a shite tomorrow....

That vending machine dress thing; I'm digging the idea that the way to stop women being pursued at night time on their way home is to disguise them so they no longer look like women.

Cunning.

What are you talking about? Of course it wasn't sarcasm. It's totally the way to avoid trouble, just dress like a man. I should have thought of it before, I don't know why it didn't cross my mind.

Other things to dress as for safety:
-A grizzly bear.
-An abstract concept, ie Blueness or Frugality.
-Rupert Murdoch
-A woman, but a really tough woman, like Lucy Liu.
-The person planning to mug you. That'll freak them out.

Whew, okay. I thought I was missing some possible sensibility about dressing like a vending machine that didn't involve Hallowe'en.

One car less! The old banger was finally sent off to meet its maker, or at least the Authorised Treatment Facility (junkyard as was), where it will be happily be recycled into washing machines, etc..

I'm also happy that this is now a legal requirement in the UK, and that the car manufacturers have to pay for the recycling of at least 75% (to grow to 90%) of their old wares - so it was free as well.

I just went to an Indigo Girls concert! For free! I love my very sick friend and her generosity. I have never seen or heard a noisier, more enthusiastic audience in Hamer Hall.

INDIGO GIRLS!

I just went to a job interview that was actually fun. We sat together and wrote a program in Python, which I have never used before, and it was recursive and everything, and it worked. I think I really miss programming.

Anyway, he said he "has no doubts about my programming abilities". I might be teaching kids how to build robots and write video games next year. for loads of cash.
