Happy birthday, Medulla, and Mr Sanders, I never thought I would see the day when I made a contribution to a Republican, or believed in the sincerity of a political figure.

I'm off work for three weeks!

I took time off to GO TO THE FUCKING OPERA!!!

Yes. Starting next Tuesday I'm going to the whole fucking Ring Cycle at the Royal Opera House! Over the space of about a week. It's gonna be AWESOME. (Seen the whole thing once before, but it was a different staging and the individual operas were three months apart, which kind of fucked the momentum a little).

...and even better than that, in December I'm going to see Parsifal there. And I came into some money, so I thought FUCK IT and bought the ticket that cost two hundred quid. Now, one of my favourite things about going to the opera is the fact that, despite people constantly moaning that they need to change the demographic it appeals to, I always get filthy looks from everyone in the bar beforehand, like they think I'm gonna try to nick their shit. I really like the idea of being able to breeze past them into the comfiest seat in the house. And of course, the best part is I've never seen Parsifal before, and it's one I've long wanted to see.

HOOrah!

Hehe...you are right ping, it was my son's birthday party. Which, I was in charge of co-ordinating, of course. This was nerve-racking but, I survived! He received so many presents! Now, I have to send out the thank-you cards. Oh, and thank you to everyone here for the well-intentioned wishes!

In other good news, I am well on my way to getting my Standard First and CPR-level C, WOOHOO! This will qualify me to take an instructor's course to teach First Aid to others. Awesome! Even if I don't take the instructor's course, knowing the First Aid is a definite bonus. I feel a bit more confident that I know what to do in case of an emergency or disaster. It is good knowledge to have!

Gently demanding that a principal and some teachers get off their butts and do something about the older kids bullying my son AND getting the recognition for his advanced academic development and the testing and support to nurture it, ALL in one day....I am jubilant!

Plus, the gratifying knowledge that I have some kick-ass letter writing ability. Ahhh....Don't mess with Mama.

Yarr!

I can finally publicly say that I've been working since June on a script for a comics adaptation of Captain Blood for SLG.

Finished my first draft last night -- it's a five-issue series that plays fast and loose with a lot of details from the classic novel of piracy, but hits all the main beats and stays faithful to the tone and spirit of the original. Way the hell more than the Errol Flynn movie or the ancient Classics Illustrated, anyway.

There is absolutely no release date, and I don't even know if an artist is locked into the project yet, but the publisher finally said I can at least blather about it.

Yarr! I be writin' pirate comics!

Just sorry I missed Talk Like A Pirate day with this one.

"Who's with me!"

Tell me Peter Blood says it. Tell me!

Also, will it have the Conan-style turnstile?
(Never read the novel, love the movie with a giddy love.)

w00t!

I'll be looking forward to that. I was looking forward to more comics from you anyway, but pirates? That seals the motherfuckin' deal.

I can wait. I'll put money on it being worth it.

After three weeks I've finally been given a portion of my late wages to see me through to the next proper payday. I have all these rectangular bits of paper now.

Still, after sorting it out directly I found out that my Admin, who had sworn blindly she was on the case, had not called in once about my not getting paid. Not what you'd call impressed.

This week, I have finally got a phoneline sorted. Found out that BT actually should have charged me £124 connection fee to have it set up. We had days of worry thinking we were going to have to pay up to £250 to get the line fixed, so it's extra specially happy that we get the thing for freer than we should.

AND i have been to my whole first week at uni and am immensley excited about it. Feeling happy to have realistic expectations of doing work and generally learning.

AND AND! I got a call today from E. at work. I had an interview this monday for an internal position that would allow me to work part time and not have to go back on the phones (the horrid horrid phones!). I got the job! And it pays better so i make nearly as much part time as i did full time!

This week has been pretty stressful, but jeez, it's turned out nice.

H A P P E E ! ! !

Okay, THIS is what I want for Christmas:

ANTI-HORNET is designed for protecting your body against the deadly sings of the dangerous bees. As this protective suit is fabricated with Alumix, it offers a complete protection against not only the deadly stings but also heat and flames contact while your getting rid of the beehive using fire.

Today's happy is that it's getting cold and crisp out, which means sweaters! And a whole new section of my wardrobe is now available. Instead of feeling bloody hot and irritable I can be wrap myself up and merely feel warm and snuggly.

Apologies if it was in the article but how did they come across you?

We got blogged by the Flickr staff when we announced our wedding. And thanks for the compliments! Gives us a whole new happy! I'm having happys tonight because I've just been sitting around a wood fire in the shared courtyard of our little crazy commune type place, eaten mushroom burgers and drunk lots of wine. And now I'm sitting watching a very funny film. Life is good.
