An utterly selfish one, but I started my second day at my new job today and it went really well. It’s much more relaxed than the last place I worked, everyone seems to be really enthusiastic about being there, and I have more days off than I have on. Each day I’ve taken a long walk through the park to get to work, it’s still cold but it’s also lovely and bright. At lunchtime I was able to go to the library and have a look at the nearby shops for a pair of comfy shoes. On the way home I was surrounded by students and young people playing sports, the trees were still bare but they seemed to be reaching up into the sunlight, and when I got a bit further on I went for a stroll down the canal. It was pretty perfect really, and even as a very small thing it made me happy.

For about the last half hour the "shuffle" setting on my iRiver has, despite having a large amount of bands to choose from, been obsessed, obsessed I tell you! with Guitar Wolf and the Bad Seeds. It has, indeed, alternated between the two bands for about the last ten tracks. This has been very joyful, and has made work far more bearable.

Having signed up with eMusic yesterday, I am delighted to discover a Children of God-era Swans live album, Kill The Child, which has been mastered as one 60-odd-minute track, despite containing shitloads of songs. As eMusic counts downloads by the track, rather than the album, this is wonderful as it only takes one off my nine remaining free downloads! If I was out of the trial period and into my paying subscription, the whole album would have cost me about 24p. This = TEH AWESOME HAPPY.

I probably won't be so happy after listening to an hour of live Swans- in fact, I'll probably be miserable, murderous and deaf- but I'll be content.

'Won' an electric blue MD Recorder off Ebay for only $39.00. It works! And it records like a dream. Did I mention the colour?

Ebay roolz.

Also, and this is real happy, not just Ebay happy. I finally read an email I've been avoiding for the last two months. The email was from someone I wrote about in an academic article, responding to a draft of said article. I was quite critical of a court case she was involved in and thought she hated my guts, so didn't bother reading her response.

It turns out she actually liked the article, although there were some factual errors. I just wrote her a massively apologetic email asking her to clarify the errors so I can correct them in the publisher's proofs.

Nothing like finally doing the responsible thing after months of scared avoidance, and realising the big scary monsters are just human, to give you a happy. Now I don't have to procrastinate anymore and can stop frequenting the Conversation.

Have you noticed, that that colbert speech is almost not mentioned at all in the media? It´s only present in blogs, fora and other non-media internet sources.

Uh-huh. I was amazed that even our paper gave coverage to the shitty Bush impersonator and didn't mention Colbert at all. One of the biggest and bravest snubs to Bush's face ever and no-one wanted to touch it. Shameful.

You know what gives me a happy? When my baseball team that was playing like shit comes back and stomps on the testes of the most awful, morally reprehensible sports team of the past 100 years. And humiliates our money-grubbing, lying, manipulating, barely coherent former center fielder in the process.

Fuck. Yes. I had a sports-gasm when Ortiz hit that home run.

Getting my tonsils out! Fifteen days of pain, but I get off work, get to read lots of books, won't have Obstructive Sleep Apnea anymore and will actually be able to sleep properly for the first time since age 10. Very big fucking happy.

Yay tonsilectomy!

After seeing a mysteriously high bank balance in my account for weeks, I finally sat down and reconciled my checkbook to my Quickbooks accounts. I've been thinking I was in the red and about to bounce a major check. Turns out I somehow missed a $1200 deposit two weeks ago. DUH. And YAY! It's a bit of a mixed happy because I've been going through the agony of late bills, spats with the SO, whining, grouching, and worrying. But, but, but, this is like finding a $20 in your dirty pants pocket TIMES SIXTY! Woooo!

Another happy for me. The used bookstore that I used to love in my old neighborhood just moved to my new neighborhood! I stopped in today and bought Middlemarch and talked with the owner for a minute. She's a cute older woman that leaves you alone to shop but is also glad to chat, and she was telling me how her 18 yr old kitty ran away when she moved because he was so upset - she had the old store for 25 years. But don't worry, he came back!

I'm happy at the Conversation's current state of sexed-upness - or, rather, the amount of sex/gender-related discussion that's going on. It seems like ages since we talked about this stuff, and it gives me a whopping great happy.

I'm happy that at last the need/demand for a beautiful pink Sex, Body and Relationships forum is becoming overwhelmingly evident.

Oh hell, me too, ever since people mentioned 'getting it' and also because based on Stoatie's reaction it sounds like a truly epic pun. Please assist?
