We've just started a foray into growing food - got runner beans, carrots, peas, sweetcorn and pumpkins on the go at the moment. All doing rather well in this weather, too!

Oh, and cube, you may be interested in this site if secret, inaccessible urban places is your thing!

Would someone please tell me why THIS this gives me such a happy?

Oh no. I'm not ashamed. I watch it when I need cheering.

That's truly inspired!

Didn't get a chance to see it all the way through, as I need to go to bed, but it had me chuckling within 15 seconds or so.

It sorta gives me a happy too, so thanks for that!

I'm watching the Eastender's Sunday omnibus edition, and (I can't belive I"m typing this) it's given me a huge happy. Billy's ordeal trying to get to the church for the wedding has had me in stitches. "I can't go like this...I look like Shawoddywoddy" made me cry.

Whover wrote this episode is inspired.

It's horribly, evilly, ungodly hot here. This is a bad thing.

But!

Summertime is when the mantises come out, looking for love, food, or both. And last night the first mantis of Summer landed on my sleeve. She's a beauty, all blonde and lovely with dark eyes. Sadly she seems to be missing the foot portion of her right gripping forelimb, but the pincer portion works perfectly. She seems pretty young, I doubt she's mated yet, so there's little chance of an egg sack being left in the back yard, but the Summer is young and I have hope!

The heat hate thread has just reminded of a phrase used a lot in physics books when talking about temperature: pure melting ice. I love that phrase.

pure... melting... ice.

Today I was walking down Crown St, a generally fairly unpleasant yuppie strip, but in the window of a terrace house over a mediocre cafe was a tacky home-made sign that said, in very large letters:

WHAT WOULD OPTIMUS PRIME DO?

I never even liked the Transformers, but it gave me a happy just the same.

My ibook died.

They fixed it.

But it was still dead.

So they fixed it again.

And again.

But dead it remained.

So they're giving me a replacement.

A macbook.

I shall miss my poor ibook, but I'm still a bit more than happy to be getting a brand new macbook.

Woo Warranties!

I wish I had a t-shirt of that phrase on it. ANother good one would be (and I got the idea somewhere here in Barbtwn, but can't remember where):

WHO WOULD JESUS NUKE?

Which just reminded me of something my Mum told me last week which put a massive smile on my face:

Apparently my Dad has made friends with a Robin Red Breast. Every time my old man does any gardening the little bird comes and stands about a foot away from him and watches everything he does. He also follows my Dad when he's cutting the lawn, looking for any worms (I suppose) who might have been drummed to the surface in the lawnmower's wake.

I had no idea, and apparently this has been going on for a couple of years now. But even more amazing, is that the last time my Dad saw the wee birdie, ze had two small Robins with it, as though introducing my Dad to the kids and showing the wee ones the "how to use this human and get worms" trick.

How cool is that?

Yeah, I gotta admit, I had a happy tear in my eye after she told me. Apparently, the Robin looks up at him, then hops up and down, as if to say "c'mon, help me get a worm". Very cute.

Your story reminds me of my breakfast today.

I sat in a park at a lake and all kinds of birds hung around me. The most active were the sparrows, with a fluffy baby sparrow standing next to me on my bench, watching/waiting for me to spill more crumbs. The ducks (in all different shapes and colours) lay all over the place and didn´t bother with me, and sure enough, an old woman came along showering them in bread crumbs. The swallows were zooming at amazing speed across the lake and a crow (or jackdaw?) was circling me by jumping around me and keeping a three feet distance.

In lieu of three or four posts in the miserable thread, I'm opting for just one here.

I've somehow lucked into falling in love with the best person. Ever. I'm not sure how it happened, I clearly don't deserve the love of someone so fantastic.

Occasionally, I feel a bit sorry for whichever wonderful gentleman who was originally destined to love the Best Person, but it isn't my fault, and they aren't having Hir.

It's a bit difficult for me to be miserable now.

There's a storm going on right over here, right now, with big loud crashes of thunder and lightening and stair-rods of rain coming down. And just as it really got started, what should Tom Robinson on the radio play, but Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack - my favourite record in the world, ever. Which I turned right up and danced to, buzzing with adrenaline. Sigh. Life is so good sometimes.

Another one bites the dust: Walmart quits Germany [Sorry, german link]. I´ve maybe shopped there about six times in as many years and hated the place:

1) No real reason to shop there, prices the same as everywhere else.
2) They have this strange slide, where you have to drive down into the basement where all the groceries are, and your cart always gets stuck on it, (first time I hurt myself, because I didn´t know that), so it takes at least four minutes, after entering the shop, until you are in the groceries department and again four minutes to get to the register.
3) Nowhere else did I ever have to wait such a long time in the queues.

Those big business companies often fail here. Other quitters are Virgin Megastore and Blockbusters ("Excuse me, but where´s the porn?"). Next candidate might be McD...

A couple of hours ago I went for a walk. And after a while, it got a bit cold, and I was pleasantly surprised to realize, I should have put on more than jeans, tshirt and sandals.

After weeks of 32 - 36 °C, we have 23 °C and they are "felt" as 18 °C! It even rained for a couple of minutes today...

Also, though I'm a bit hectic with organisey things atm, Pride this weekend! Wooooooo!

Mist, I agree, the drop in temperature is indeed something to celebrate, maybe with one of lekvar's jet-packs and a stay in Blanche House with Natasha Lyonne?... What? I can dream, right?

Anyhoo, my local shopkeepers just gave me a happy. I hadn't eaten since Monday evening and (for boring reasons) I'm skint, again. However, the hunger was getting more than a bit annoying this time, so I swallowed my pride, went to the shop, and asked for some tick till some of my money comes through tomorrow. Of course, I'm a regular customer and they know where I live; but still, they didn't have to say "yes" and in such a nice, friendly, relaxed way. I couldn't believe my luck. Thanks gents.

Hmm...Houmous, pitta, and ten cheap fags?... I may have little pride left, but trust me, I feel glorious right now.

Just came back from seeing the mighty Ministry. NOT ONLY was the gig fucking ace, NOT ONLY did I get to have a lovely time beforehand drinking beer with Hellbunny, Cass and friends, NOT ONLY did myself and TangoMango managed to blag our way downstairs despite only having upstairs sitting tickets... but I bumped into a whole shitload of people I hadn't seen in years. And getting the bus back, bumped into them all again and it turns out they all know each other!

It's a small world, though I wouldn't want to paint it.

But the gig WAS fucking ace. That was also muchly happy-giving.

Sixteen roses in shades of pink/yellow/apricot/orange, and ten stems of pale yellow chrysanths, which I am totally willing to forgive for having allowed themselves to have been dyed pink-orange, because the overall effect in combination with the roses is joyful like a really good dawn.

Just Barbelith does. I was feeling miserable here on my own and I read a few things and I get a few PM's and everyone is lovely and funny and I am glad to know you all.

I must at this point point out that I have had a glass of wine or two at the pub earlier, but even the thought of coming home and seeing what's going in here makes me smile.

I know it's silly and half the people who have made me happy here tonight I've never even met, but I like the fact that I know people in other countries or even other towns that think similar things to me, and even though the definiton of friends is stretched when you think about people on a message board, there are people here who I would count as friends regardless of physically knowing them.

Call me sad if you want, I don't care!
