I like the way you think. I'll see what I can do about bringing a few bottles of something.

Now, who's bringing the stomach pump?

A little bit of information will help me out immensely.

Are you getting a room for both Friday and Saturday? And about how much will the room come out to? Also, if possible, how many people are planning on coming out. I'm counting something like 5 or 6, but it's unclear how many are sticking around for the night.

As I said earlier, I just moved and am just starting a new job. I won't be paid by the time of the event yet, but I may be able to wrangle some cash (birthday money, a loan, severance pay, old debts owed to me, etc.) So, in all likelihood, I should be able to make it, if only by the kindness of family members. They know I'm good for it.

The only other hitch is that I won't be able to start the journey until Friday afternoon. That would place our arrival at about 1-3 am Saturday morning. I imagine that if you lot have the same voracious sensual appetites as Kooky and your Barbelith counterparts to the North, you'll still be up getting down.

well, I thought the party would mainly be on saturday. but I personally will be coming up on friday at some point (the exact time is still unclear). I will be dragging I AM with me. I havent chosen a place yet, but if we need bigger accomodations we'll also need more financial contributions (Im a far cry from wealthy). Ill be leaving on sunday at some point (most likely checking out of the room then heading off to have some more fun, if I have willing victims)

anyone who wants to stay with us is welcome to, for the entire weekend or just the night, whatever. any money is contributed is greatly welcomed, but we are NOT going to haggle over it. if youve got the cash, please be nice with it, but if you havent got it, dont sweat it. I think the most important thing is that we all show up and have fun while we are there

I have no clue as to how much itll cost. what we choose depends on how many people want to come and how many want to participate.

edited to add: please PM me if you are reasonably CERTAIN you want to come, and tell me how long you plan on staying on. also, feel free to just come along for the party and then go home if you prefer

ugh

Im not having any luck finding a good place to stay. non-smoking rooms, shared baths, and practically no one has a website so I can take a peek at their rooms.

suggestions please?

If you're finding hotels in Brooklyn to be hard to find, you might be better off with Manhattan, where you're less likely to pick something inaccessible. And, a larger place (not a B'and b') would probably be better if you are planning on being rawkus til the wee hours.

I can't think of any other hotels in Brooklyn besides the Marriott; the price of a hotel room probably will be similar to a hotel in Manhattan, if not cheaper.

I noticed the Chelsea Hotel lists its rates. (It's in Manhattan.)

Arlington Hotel, 18 W 25th St (between 6th Ave and Broadway), NY 10010 (tel 645-3990, fax 633-8952). Chinese-run hotel with very good prices near Madison Square Park and equidistant from Downtown and Midtown. Clean rooms and free continental breakfast $100–130; with two-room suites for four at $130–160.

Assuming tht this is in the right kind of area. This is from the Rough Guide and despite no additional info, the Rough Guide is well known for accurate and good recommendations.

It's in Chelsea, which is equally residential and commercial. A very diversified neighborhood.

The neighborhood? Yes. The hotel? Don't know. BK can give them a call and feel them out (so to speak).

As I said, it's from the rough guide and in the many hotels/B&B's, hostels that I've used from them, I've never had something that is worse than described.

It should be pretty good.

OK, the only potentially viable spots (smoking rooms, accomodations for four so we've got a little room) I've found in Brooklyn would be this place, which has some rooms that might appeal to us, here's a listing.

Awesome Bed & Breakfast

There's also the Marriot, which for 2 nights would run $260 to $460. The Comfort Inn, which doesnt look as nice, for 2 nights, is $304.

That B&B in Brooklyn might do – my only question is will they hassle BK & crew about all the extra people coming in and out. A hotel will be more expensive but far less bother. The Marriott could work out if everyone chips in.

Walked by the Arlington last night, as it's not far from my job. The neighborhood is more on the edge between Chelsea and the Flatiron District and definitely NOT residential. The block is a bit grim, but peeking inside the hotel lobby I noticed an ATM machine, soda machine, clean floors, tourist guides, and what looked like internet access. This leads me to believe that it is the sort of place that charges by the night...not by the hour. There's a church across the street. I wouldn't say it's a dangerous area, but it can be freaky if you're not used to NY.

Edited because I think my subsequent post got lost: If you folks want to do Chelsea, check out the link I posted on page 2 for the Chelsea Hotel. It's right on 23rd Street, which is a major thoroughfare, and might be a bit cheaper than the rates Floats posted for the Marriott. And it stinks of Literary/Rock 'N' Roll decadence!

I'll pitch in around 20 dollars.

Speaking of food, what's the situation with it?

bitchiekittie

that b&b has shared bathrooms. well need our own, I think, particularly if theres going to be tons of people. and theres no smoking in the rooms. plus, the rooms look REALLY tiny

the chelsea -
Single rooms: $135 to $250 per night
Doubles rooms: $165 to $275 per night
Twin rooms: $185 to $300 per night
Suites: $300 to $350 per night

wed need a double room or a suite, and those prices are a bit much for me, unless weve got more people chipping in more than I thought. I didnt do too much research tonight, I have to go - so maybe its possible, with those smaller rates, but doest look good

and as far as food, I thought if everyone who didnt live too far away (I think we can excuse the canadians) could bring something, if possible, it would add up to something feasible. some people have already offered to bring liquor, Ill bring some non-perishable stuff. maybe we can buy some stuff from the immediate area once were all settled

ok, take a look here

Im shit at this, so please be easy on me if this place sucks ass. the rates are quite low, making me wonder how crappy it might be, but they have a little kitchenette in each suite, which is fantastic. the beds are only full size

if anyone knows anything about this place or the area let me know. it would be FANTASTIC if someone could take a peek into the place, if possible....

It's not like I'm looking for or expecting the Taj Mahal. I'm a fairly rugged traveller though and would be happy with worse places than this one.

I say that we should book this one.

I have about $300 CDN to drop on this trip, which would mean at least $100 on the hotel room, more if moriarty is going to be driving down as I would be spending less on travel arrangements.

moriarty - how does $80 or so sound to you for gas money? Are you still planning on coming?

bk: Boro Park is a residential neighborhood, mostly Orthodox/Hasidic with a bit of Latino thrown in. With the recent change in train services I'm not sure whether it's the Q or W trains that go there...

Ensure they don't cater exclusively to Orthodox Jews before you reserve a room. From the description on the webites it sounds like they do.

As for people chipping in for the rooms: I think everyone who intends on showing up should chip in for it, as well as bring food/booze etc. If it were a night out we'd have to shell out dough.

I still say the Marriott is the best bet, even if you get a smaller room, and I'm willing to put my $$$ where my mouth is.

I'd still like to come, but I haven't had any breakthroughs on the money situation. My brother and I both had to pay lots of unexpected bills this month. Still, I remain optimistic.

Here's another site, if it helps. And here. I'm sure you have probably seen these sites or similar already, though. Frommer's has a nice
site, and has some tips specific to rooms in New York. Also, if anyone has an American Express card...

I'm with Potus on this one. I've seen some pretty nasty hostels, so just about anything will be comfortable for me.

I'm with Irene, I say we go with the Mariott. I can chip in at least $50-$75, more if need be. And does anyone have a AAA card? We can get a discount if someone does.

Also, I'm deffinetly bringing at least one sleeping bag. I'll try to remember to bring my other one as well.

Thank you BK!!!!!
