I'm in, and if we do go with the room idea, will happily chip in. If we decide against it, I can provide lodging in the 'burbs of Jersey for a few people, provided you can deal with a rather interesting house.

How interesting is your house?

Im definitely in, Ive already made arrangements for my daughter and am considering taking that friday off (I have some days I need to take or else lose anyway...)

we are going to need some advice from NY natives as to where to stay - give a few suggestions!

I guess I'm in. It's a bad date for me, because I honestly don't know where I will be living then...I will very likely be with my parents an hour away, making this all a pain in the ass for me, really.

I really wish you'd all try moving the date up to something before the 19th, because then it's easier for me, AND I can offer at least two other people free lodging.

An hour away. A pain in the ass.

Flux, baby, I have a minimum 9 hour drive ahead of me if I can gather up the cash to come on down. You'll get no sympathy here.

My chances of coming are fairly slim, but would increase dramatically if I had a few more Canadian members in the car. As it is, I'll probably be bringing the Cute Moriarty Brother with me, so that'll help.

Well, I don't ever enjoy staying over places as a guest, and otherwise, I'd have to leave very early before anyone else, so yeah, it is annoying and problematic.

And if the numerous of physical violence that you've offered up on occasion for me are any indication, maybe I should sit this one out, Moriarty.

moriarty
15:42 / 03.01.02
It's doubly problematic for the rest of you because I snore like a mofo.

And, threats of physical violence? Yikes. Whatever I said (and I don't doubt that I said it) I apologize. I'll try to keep my violent woodman nature in check from now on, k?

flux sugar, I can drive you - just say you'll come. I can actually drive just about anyone who is more or less on the way (I AM is in dc, so Im going to be driving with him). and anyone can join in on the room share, but I call a bed.

Matthew Fluxington
15:53 / 03.01.02
Um, I'm not asking for a ride. I don't need cars, I have trains. That's not it, it's the 'having to sleep somewhere that I don't live' thing. I hate that. I was raised to hate being a guest, and it's hard to escape my programming sometimes.

Nevertheless, I'm just being a primadonna.

heh. coming up and picking me up would add nearly three hours to your trip, dear. I'm from a place 50 miles *north* of Manhattan.

moriarty - I'll be coming from Canada. I can't drive in Ontario due to lack of licence but I'm good as soon as we cross the boarder and I'm a fairly decent driver.

moriarty
16:16 / 03.01.02
Yay!

I'm ok to drive the full way, it's just a matter of gas money. Actually, even that wouldn't be too much of a concern, if I hadn't just quit my job and moved, causing a temporary shortage of funds.

In the meantime, I'd suggest leaving your options open in the event that I can't go.

And Flux, who said anything about sleeping. You and I will be arguing the relative merits of Barry vs. Rall all night long.

After the standard of driving that I've seen since coming to Canada, I'm not sure I can trust your driving

So where abouts will you be coming from?

moriarty
16:57 / 03.01.02
I drive maybe twice a year, so I'd advise distrust.

I'd be coming down from Bracebridge, which is 2 hours North of Toronto.

I know Bracebridge, it's close to my friends cottage in Dorset.

Potus, the house is interesting in that it's inhabited by four people between the ages of 22-24. It functions as the HQ of a local band (PT Grimm) who is playing in Brooklyn the 26th. So, the place may be crawling with band/groupies at odd hours. Pretty much anything goes there, pot smoking and drinking is frequent, as are strangers wandering around in their underwear. I cannot vouch for it's cleanliness, though if I know I am to have guests, I will make a concerted effort to make it habitable. I live in the basement, and behind the deck/backyard is a decent expanse of woods, good for frolicking. It's 20 miles west of Manhattan, a train and cab ride away. I have 2 beds in my room, and 2 couches upstairs. If the hotel bombs out, anyone interested is invited, but you've been warned of the above. I am however, more partial to the idea of room(s) in NY. Brooklyn or Manhattan? I say Brooklyn, will undoubtedly be cheaper. I'm in for probably more than my share of the hotel, and for sleeping requirements, I like beds but will probably be happy slumped against a wall, if I sleep. Also, I may have access to a car throughout the weekend, so Flux, if you're in a pinch I may be able to give you a lift. I'm pretty familiar with the area, where more specifically are you?

Thankee. I like the sound of getting rooms but in the case of a disaster I'm sure I can survive at your place.

18:35 / 03.01.02
I don't know, I might just stay with my best friend if I have to.

I'm from Cold Spring, though. Next to Garrison and Peekskill and Beacon etc...

I'm in favor of Barbevents centering in Brooklyn, because it's a) cheaper and b) I I prefer it to manhattan.

Definitely Brooklyn.

Although Float's Rock 'N' Roll Hacienda sounds intriguing...heh heh...

Yeah, the house is fun. I rent the basement from one of the singer's grandparents (He and I have been friends a decade) We fight like sisters, and it has it's definite frustrations (see: having your phone shut down because roomies don't pay bills, hence why Barbelith is a day-time activity) But the rooms in Brooklyn are probably a better choice, we'll save the trip to Jersey for the next Leonid shower (town's on a hill, and low amounts of light-polluiton, they were amazing.) But, I digress.....

I hate to bring up the subject of cash, but I suppose someones' got to. Who's in, and what are you in for? Doesn't have to be the final word, but it'd be nice to get an idea of what we can afford. I'll commit to at least $100....and as far as who gets to be treasurer: I call not it.

I'll be in Boston on biz that week, let me know and I'm there.....

...I will also have a hotel room paid for by the company so that is also a possible crash site

Brooklyn sounds cool.

When asked what I did with my weekend I can then answer - Brooklyn took it. Finally I can cement my position as the next Jeru

well, regardless of who does or doesnt chip in, Im getting rooms for the weekend, from friday the 25 on to the 27th. if we get something really expensive, Ill need help, as Im nowhere near wealthy - the more the merrier.

Id like to suggest BYOB, as the last time I chose liquor, being a teetotaler, I chose badly

As stated before, I'm in.

I'll chip in what I can. But since I'm looking for an apartment, I'm not sure how much that'll be.

Kittie, pm me your plans and we'll see what happens. If I've got to take off on Friday or Monday, I need to know.

Shoot, just noticed that I miss MLK's birthday by one week. So, I don't have a three day week that weekend.

I'll be more than happy to bring a bottle of whiskey. I can also bring a bottle of vodka, rum or tequila if enough people prefer clear liquor of some sort.

OK, I guarantee that I'm in, even if moriarty bails. I'll bring some CD's but I don't have a player.

I'll also pick up some beverages as well.
