Watched all of series 2 and now have a somewhat opinon of it.

Achieved better things than the first, failed less than should be expected, but started to find its footing. I liked that John Hart was sort of a faux-MacGuffin---he came back but we really didn't care or know if he did.

Sorry. That last ep tore at me. Torchwood has its price. Shit or not, a person's life attempting should always get their due.

Any real news on the status of series 3? All I can find online is rumors and conjecture, which is making me nervous.

Keith Topping, who has written spin-off novels etc, has indicated that there are only going to be 6 episodes next year. RTD in a recent interview (in Attitude, I think) said that series 3 will be "completely overhauled," whatever that means. It certainly seems like there's going to be a third series, but in what form, or when hasn't been confirmed yet.

It's a comedy. Jack chucks it all in and runs a pub, right on the edge of the rift - WITH HILARIOUS CONSEQUENCES!

The Weevil and Lettuce?

The Fatality and Firkin?

The Cold Dead Arms?

I'd watch.

Cool, thanks for the news. I hope they don't change it too much, sure it could be better, but after too much tweaking it may loose its charm.

That is the funniest thing anybody has ever said on Barbelith ever.

Oh. It's confirmed by (she of the large and amazing hair and Torchwood/Who/SJA producer) Julie Gardner that Torchwood will only be a five episode mini-series, running over one week next year. If I were to guess why, I'd be "blaming" the ubiquitous John Barrowman's increasingly hectic schedule or possibly the new master of the Whoniverse, Steven Moffat's ambivalence towards the show (in past interviews he has expressed having very little interest or desire to work on the show). During his tenure he might want to pare back to just Doctor Who. Another reason, what with Gardner and RTD leaving and Chris Chibnall and Richard Stokes already gone is that the powers that be might consider Torchwood to be a hallmark of the RTD era and might want him to put his own show to bed, clearing the deck for any other potential spin offs. Like Jenny Who's Amazing Action Hour, maybe. Whatever the reason is, the show isn't ending, it's just being condensed into one week in what smells suspiciously like an attempt at week long event television, like Britain's Got Talent.

I just hope SJA isn't canceled!

I'm surprised at the total lack of comments about the 5 parter here - did everyone else give up on the show just before it got (whisper it) good?

I'll not go into any specifics for the benefit of anyone yet to watch it on Syfy or whatever channel it's showing on in the States, but I thought it was pretty well plotted; heroically nihilistic and remarkably un-schmaltzy for RTD.

Plus there was a (presumably) subconscious homage to Rachel Whiteread in there too.

Got to admit I chuckled a little at your Rachel Whiteread quip. While the team finally started to really live up the the premise, I want to know how are they going to stick Jack back into Doctor Who given the really dark turn that Torchwood has taken.

Children of Men is not airing anytime soon in the States. Presumably in Canada, it will be different.

Supposedly it's on BBC America from July 20th, Kali.

Can those outside of the UK still watch online via BBC iplayer? It's on there for another 5 or 6 days.

I'm all for brave casting but considering the stick JNT got for casting Ken Dodd it was an odd move by RTD to cast Stanley Unwin as the mysterious alien expert Dekker.

gamma - I'm afraid not, though I'm pretty sure it's out there, seeing as io9 have posted spoilerish reviews already.

David, I kept being reminded of Mr Bennet from Hartbeat all the way through. I guess it was the jacket.

Incidentally, he's evidence of the one glaring plot inconsistency. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it right now, though.

Ah, well, I am no longer in America, so there you go.

Torchwood finally manages to turn into what I always thought it should be; Spooks as set in the Whoniverse.

Enjoyable, really really dark, and no bloody "Carry On Stopwatch" nonsense.

Bleak ending, although I half expected civil-service dude and psycho black-ops lady to end up recruited into a new Torchwood team.

Don't forget the smattering of decent social commentary and some propah evil government types! I think it alse benefitted from the cutting down of the team to a core three, it meant there was much more room for additional characters.

Was I the only one who thought that Torchwood season 3 was bloody fantastic?

Evil Scientist
09:04 / 18.07.09
For me personally fantastic might be stretching it a bit. But given how truely awful the 'Wood has been in the past Children of Earth was a massive improvement (I haven't heard any of the radio plays so can't comment on them).

To be honest it'd be a good place to leave the show now. It's not as if they can really do any more without a whole new cast (one presumes Barrowman would be up for more, but he'll pretty much have to assemble an entire new team).

Much like my feelings at the end of Miracle Day. You'd think I'd have learnt by that point, but no.
