Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Yeah, I'm curious to read those old threads. Do they talk of Icke much?

A lot of them are gone now--either deleted, or just dropped off the edge of Convo back when threads got deleted after a month.

Although...

Aha! Yes, here's Weaken the Stronghold. From before my time, this thread is widely regarded as the classic Greenland wank.

I'm off to see if any of the Temple mentalism has survived.

Pg 2. Change the 000075-2 to 000075-3 and so on for the rest of the thread.

Looking at that thread I'm awe-strucked by the rants about "THE MILKMAN" and "terminator seeds" (Schwarzenegger flying around the world jacking off from on high, non-stop? Well, it serves as a good portrait of the times for some, I guess. At least we have previews of how it is to Witness The Face of God in His Seed-Spreading Creation Act of Deathcamp Cosmos).

Did anyone else played "Psychonauts"? There was that level where you were inside the psyche of a paranoid conspiracy theory schmuck, and it was a huge looping suburbia where everyone and everything (people and things) was made of disguised conspiracy agents. Your mission was to find the master behind the curtain...

The Milkman.

Dumb-dumb-DUUUMB!!!!!!

And "Yes there were enormous barbecues, hence dragons." is the quote of the year in my fridge's door above my Baby Sinclair's picture of him saying "NOT LEZ MAMA!"

Rich thread is rich.
Me in awe.

Mordant- your archive-fu is second to none. I've spent the last 24 hours trying "september black, october blacker" in the fucked Barbe-search function.

Haus in the 'Is that it, then?' in Policy:

I have an idea - theoretically, we ban now by me or Randy (largely absent) sending Tom somebody's user number. How about if I just sort of progressively prune? Would anyone, at this point, object? I feel one could make a quiet but pleasant place...

I'm not so much barbannoyed, as barbeflabbergasted.

I share your pain. After all, nobody so far has been convinced that you were lovingly and affectionately joking when you accused Mordant of having massive power issues, or indeed in any other circumstance thus far when what has apparently been sincerely meant as loving joshing has been read as persecution. It is the nature of the great artist to be misunderstood, alas.

Perhaps you could give me an example, beyond the Massive Power Issues thing, of my joshing being mistaken for persecution?

You do realise your name is currently Glenn: douchegate veteran, yes?

However, this is not productive. Either you are aware of the reaction you occasion, and roughly why, or you aren't. If the latter, at this point it would be foolish for me to do more than I have already done - to suggest that you consider what might explain why not one person thought to agree with, or even to find credible or indeed worth considering, the possibility that you might in fact have been representing your motivations honestly? I would find that, approaching it in good faith and sincerity, a bit of a shocker, personally.

Sad thing is, I thought you were doing quite well with the prejudiced humour thread, after the magical poo pile-up, but of course one should test even the most firm ice before essaying a soft-shoe shuffle thereupon.

Haus, I'm well aware of what I chose to call myself, thanks.

I'm also aware that some posters profess a keen dislike of me, and that you are often among their number. Other posters are neutral, or friendly. Hey ho.

I'm pleased for you that you seem to have enjoyed the 'Prejudiced Jokes' thread. I'd be interested to know if you actually read my now twice deleted 'Magic and Faeces' thread in its second incarnation, and if so whether, given its informative content and inoffensive approach, you think it should have been deleted by the Temple Mods.

First, show evidence that I have ever professed a keen dislike of you. Second, please try to read what I actually wrote. What I suggested to you was that you might benefit from considering why not one person professed in-thread to believe or even to find worth in considering your claims to amity, affection, humour and the exculpating loipa. Please understand that I am not questioning your sincerity, only noting that there was to my knowledge nobody who recognised it as such. I still believe that this might be a profitable exercise, but I do not feel particularly able to help you with it at present.

Crap comedy pictures in the place of any kind of thought-out posting.

That'd be annoying today.

Jokes which weren't funny to start with still being flogged to death.

That'd be annoying today.

Posts which are trolling to all intents and purposes because the member posting them does so in the hope that people will get wound up by them.

That'd be annoying today.

Damn I'm glad I'm on holiday soon.

It sounds like you need one. This is an Internet message board, what's the problem with having a range and variety of threads and a broad set of responses within threads?

The answer is that there isn't a problem, there's room for all things and jokes that do not harm. Your judgement is sad and perhaps stepping away from your possession of the space and considering the level of consequence of a joke in contrast with life outside is something you need to do while disconnected from barbelith. At the same time a bid towards reimagining this place without conflict (and that includes threads like this one that are full of conflict) could be engaged with more positively by an awfully large number of people who frequent barbelith but ultimately you're going to find its implausible. This place is conflicted, is based on discussion that walks the edge of argument even during its friendly phases. If you post here now you probably like that so why gripe?

What annoys me about barbelith is that being here isn't a compulsion, you all choose it every day so stop getting so hacked off with it. If you feel pain stop maintaining it.

Incidentally I think I should make it clear that I was only trying to prove to Feverfew that it is, in fact, the end... if this is the end, shouldn't one of us be posting hilarious pictures comparing Barbelith to BBC sitcoms of the seventies and eighties? That gets me every time, that does. It. Cracks. Me. Up.

Quick, someone go get Fungus and tell him all is forgiven.

The agony column of the Sunday Sport used to be called "It's Agony, Fiona", and featured the wisdom of a glamour model called, understandably, Fiona. The funny thing was, the people writing in never really seemed to have problems - just lots of sex. At a pinch, they might tack on something at the end - "I'm worried I'm pregnant", "I'm worried I have the clap", "I'm worried my husband will find out". Really, though, honestly, it all seemed a bit forced.

I think it depends on context really. I don't have any issue with the Posting Pictures of BBC sitcom stars but also don't find it particularly funny, hence my not posting to it.

My general annoyance is with Glenn's continued use of these pics in threads in the place of any kind of thought out post. I mean it's not like he can't. It's either intentional trollspam to wind people up, a massively naive belief that it's still funny, or lazy posting.

I guess that the only recourse is to forgo whatever contributions Glenn makes to the site and whack him on ignore to avoid the shit. I doubt that'll have him sobbing into his rice crispies so no harm no foul.

Also not Policy mod so can't delete stuff there.

I appreciate that this is about 93rd on the annoyance list for this little issue, but the fact that these pictures are all hosted on third party sites is what worries me. Since I like to use a lot of screenshots when discussing shows in FTVT, I always try to host them on imageshack or something that I control myself. (It was Mordant's advice to do that that I originally took, for the record.)

It only takes one webmaster to take exception to his or her bandwidth being leeched and swap in some hardcore goat pr0n....

PM a moderator if you think it needs to go, as long as you don't pick the same one all the time it should be fine or start a moderation requests thread (there used to be one of those).

Which is all well and good, but am I expected to do that each and every time he posts one of these things in a thread that it has no relevance to? He does it a lot. Far easier for me to have him on ignore permanently and you can go on enjoying the Allo Allo joycore.

I suppose if I were AG I would be mentioning that whining about quality on Barbelith is a little like standing in Whitehall with a water pistol fighting a fire that started in Pudding Lane.

But it's still three days til I can drink again and I don't have any gin.

I don't have any real justification for telling people not to get annoyed, it just makes me sad that people are getting depressed by something that's essentially a leisure activity.
