Z3nuTv has a point in that 4n0n has to take care - and it does - nobody is completely hidden when online.

but his advice on "doing things legally" doesn't stick. C0S is backed-up by laws that grant it tax cuts etc. I suppose [haven't researched] by now there must be some influential Sç13nt0l0g1st politicians, but maybe it's worth a try for starters.

also: Z3nuTv has been on this for 10 years now, so I suppose his tacticts may have already been proven innefective. trying to sell his DVD at the end doesn't help, either.

what i'd like to see is 4n0n hack and clear the C0S bank accounts. but I guess they'd do more harm by trying to fight a propaganda war; destroying a meme is not easy, so they'd have to come up with something that could eat the Sç13nt0l0gy meme system out of people's minds.

Just a thought, like, but might it be an idea for folks to go back through this thread starring out certain words? As it is, lots of sites are bing found that were previously pretty unknown, and we know the church fights as dirty as they are allowed.

We don't want this site to be attacked, and we certainly don't want the owner to get sued over a few messages of support for 4n0n.

I really doubt it, LC. The Anonymous group has been all over the internet (Boing Boing, Usenet, blogs etc.) If someone took a disliking, they'd more likely go after a site with more traffic and potential viewers than this one.

It's growing like a weed. The funky-bunch blog is cute.

Wow, the cult're so rattled already? Huge multimilliondollar cult enterprise vs random bored people from the internet, cult showing signs of panic after 2 weeks. I guess it's pretty hard to intimidate random anonymous strangers into shutting up?

It occurs to me that the cult might shut branch offices on Feb 10th as the easiest way to avoid the people who might turn up: hence any show would be for passers by and local media, rather than those inside? I've read that they have shut outlets in the past when protestors were expected. I guess in that case any deconversion messages would need to be delivered by other means.

cult showing signs of panic

It's not really "panic," per se. It's more like -- that's how Scientology does things. There's something about the training and the culture that leads to combativeness and immediate response. If they'd simply moved the servers to Prolexis and ignored the taunting, it probably would have gone away in 3 weeks. But CoS doesn't ignore, as a rule.

i'm amazed at the influence of SAW's Jigsaw in those creepy vids.

and at the fact that more than 1.000.000 Iraqui civilian deaths and 30.000 American military deaths since 2002 have not been enough to ignite an action like this, but a Youtube video being taken down has.

The sky clip was 4 min; covered a 'hackers vs scientology' story. Had a talking head 'computer security expert' who talked from the point of view of attacks on business websites. That 'expert' stated an opinion that the attack on scientology seemed to originate from 'a grudge' and that such people were not expected to have any morals. No mention of any criticisms of scientology. 'Expert' also claimed that criminal gangs of hackers have been known to use DoS as a protection racket, extorting money to allow the site back up.

All the videos so far have had fixed angle shots, mostly of clouds moving across the sky, although the latest video appears to have a cross-eyed baby doll or puppet moving slowly, right to left. Each video has a computer generated voice reading a statement from the group, sometimes the voice is female, sometimes male-sounding, but so far each voice over has been different.

Each YouTube posting is accompanied by a transcript of the statement that is recited by the robotic voice:

It has come to the attention of Anonymous that there are a number of you out there who do not clearly understand what we are or why we have undertaken our present course of action. Contrary to the assumptions of the media, Anonymous is not simply "a group of super hackers". Anonymous is a collective of individuals united by an awareness that someone must do the right thing, that someone must bring light to the darkness, that someone must open the eyes of a public that has slumbered for far too long. Among our numbers you will find individuals from all walks of life - lawyers, parents, IT professionals, members of law enforcement, college students, veterinary technicians and more. Anonymous is everyone and everywhere. We have no leaders, no single entity directing us - only the collective outrage of individuals, guiding our hand in the current efforts to bring awareness. We want you to be aware of the very real dangers of Scientology. We want you to know about the gross human rights violations committed by this cult. We want you to know about Lisa McPhearson. We want you to know about former members of Scientology's private navy, SeaOrg, who were forced to have abortions so that they could continue in service to the church. We want you to know about Scientology's use of child labor and their gulags. We want you to know about Operation Freakout and Paulette Cooper. We want you to know about Operation Snow White and Scientology's efforts to infiltrate the government of the United States of America. We want you to know about all of these things that have been swept under the rug for far too long. The information is out there. It is yours for the taking. Arm yourself with knowledge. Be very wary of the 10th of February. Anonymous invites you to join us in an act of solidarity. Anonymous invites you to take up the banner of free speech, of human rights, of family and freedom. Join us in protest outside of Scientology centers world wide. We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. We will be heard. Expect us. (less)

Find a protest location in your area:

EDIT: Scientology and its goons have been attacking the Project Chanology website in an attempt to suppress the knowledge of the February 10th protests. Please find information on a protest in your area by searching Google or asking others in local forums, or where a large amount of locals gather online.

If you cannot readily find information, contact your friends and arrange to meet at a Scientology building on February 10th at 11AM. Wear masks and make signs, DO NOT get violent, DO NOT enter private property.

---

On February 10 Anonymous will show the Church of Scientology the collective might of an army of individuals united under one cause and one belief.

The world must be cleansed of the dangerous cult of Scientology, which violates the basic human rights of its members, destroys the lives of the followers who question its authority, and will stop at nothing to suppress the knowledge of its wrongdoing.

For Lisa McPherson and the list of others who have been tortured, maimed and killed by Scientology, either through direct action or negligence, Anonymous fights.

For the thousands who have given all of their possessions to Scientology in an attempt to cleanse their bodies of sickness both real and imagined, both physical and psychological, Anonymous fights.

For everyone who has believed the lies of L. Ron Hubbard's cult of disinformation, Anonymous fights.

Our cause is the dissemination of information and the dismantling of the Church of Scientology and all its front groups. Our belief is the simple, undeniable truth, that knowledge is free and should be given out freely, without ulterior motive or goal.

Anonymous fights for those who can't fight for themselves. Anonymous does not forgive, Anonymous does not forget. Anonymous cannot be swayed.

Be very wary of the 10th of February. (less)

I still can't get my head round the fact that a couple of weeks ago this was just a "hey guys? Do you know what would be REALLY cool?" post on an imageboard. I was reading that thread at the time and thinking "yeah, right, like THAT's gonna happen".

Been reading the thread about it on Something Awful, and there's a great section (the thread's about 150 pages long, so I've been skimming) where they're watching and commenting on the DDOS raid as it happens. It reads like a technothriller, it really does. Truly we have reached the 21st century.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

No. SOME Anonymous may be now, but... speaking as a sometime user of the imageboard which should probably remain nameless online at the moment... they just ain't like that. They've been raiding for years, often for the most unpleasant of reasons. This one just seems to be the one that really took off. And yes, I hate the racism, misogyny and homophobia of (some of) Anonymous (the boards are often thought of as being ALL of the above, because there's little or no moderation, and hey, everyone's anonymous. Not everyone who posts there does it just because they can get away with shit that everyone else, rightly, finds unacceptable, but the ones who do tend to be the most noticeable) but every now and then some of them act "for great justice". As well as lulz.

WOW. I Torrented the whole Tom Cruise thing (not just the stuff that was on YouTube) and am watching it now. My first impression is that... fuck, they present their religious broadcasts like the WORST American TV shows- it's like Gladiators, only for a cult. My second is that... boy, that Cruise guy really is passionate about this stuff. And he doesn't look like someone who's firing on his own cylinders, if you get what I mean. I feel sorry for him. I think he's $ci's cat. The one with the paw.

I'm not even sure Hubbard would approve, and he was an ABSOLUTE WANKER.

For the more esoteric/actually IS rocket science look, I'm seriously considering a "LRH NICKED JACK PARSONS' GIRLFRIEND AND PRECIPITATED HIS UNTIMELY FIERY DEATH" banner for the tenth.

(I could mention that LRH screwed him out of a fuckload of cash as well, but... hey, I'm not a $cientologist. That seems like not such a big deal to me).

I think it's yet more brilliant.

I've noticed (and others seem to agree) that protesting hasn't really been working very well recently. I get this from conversations about the mechanics of protest with members of the activist community and from my own experience taking part. We get a lot of positive outcomes banding together - friendships struck, good times had - but it seems we do it without troubling anyone too much, anyone who matters.

I think that this campaign overall is one of the best protest efforts I've seen yet. It has been media savvy and easy access all the way so far, avoiding the usual pitfalls and making a lot of converts. It has spread quickly, and continues to do so. Nobody faults them who understands their mission, and they seem to be making the right people nervous.
The 4n0ns are in a great position to make some real moves, and this video makes me glad, because it seems they're also smart enough to make them good ones.
