are you generally pleased with how they have restored the original ending to the Grimmjow battle?
Yes - it really was the best and only way Ichigo could have brought that fight to an end (Nnoitra's little intervention aside) and it's one of my favourite character moments in the series to date. I'm sorry it's the last we'll really see of Grimmjow for probably at least a year.
As for the megas recap, it would bother me less if it weren't so ponderous and didn't leave important stuff out in preference to showing vast empty chunks of battles and scenes we know from top to bottom. If it really were intended to bring up to speed viewers who haven't seen the show in twelve months or so, we'd get to see precis of Nel's introduction, the Privaron Espada, Aizen's warning not to engage the intruders, Szayel's scheming, Rukia vs. Kaien/Aaroneiro, Chad's level up, Loly and Menoly putting the hurt on Inoue... all material that needs to be covered to understand just where we are now.
On the positive side - I'm really enjoying the performance of the voice actor playing Nnoitra. He captures that guttersnipe yakuza sneer of his perfectly, really gives the impression of someone who doesn't give a fuck about how he fights. Which is why Ichigo is in so much trouble at this stage - Grimmjow hated his guts and was therefore someone who cared very deeply about besting his opponent in a way that salvaged his pride, meaning that Ichigo was able to engage him emotionally; Nnoitra doesn't care about anyone. I'm really looking forward to his backstory, considering that unlike the Szayel material, it should survive adaptation largely intact. |
