oh, bit of a shame, won't stop me getting the first ish or three tho'.

KieronGillen
14:00 / 03.07.06
Yeah, I love the format too. Phonogram was pretty much written and concieved before it was existent, alas, so it would have broken a lot of things to try and change format.

Though would like to do something in it one day...

Kieron, you really don't need to sign your posts. I know that's how they do things elsewhere, but Barbelith tends to be of a mind that it's kind of unnecessary.

Well, apart from those of us whose eyes, due to a tragic soldering accident at the age of seven, cannot move to the left.

Eh, Boboss? What about us?

Christ. Just writing "KG" at the end of anything I write is horrifically ingrained.

Will... fight... to... fit... into... soc...ial order.

I'm not quite sure if this breaches forum ettiquette, but I did an interview about Phonogram over here:

Which is quite fun. I think. But - y'know - I would.

I'm hungover again. Why do I do this to myself?

i really like the sound of this and previews look great, and i'm wondering if there is any chance this will be a trade someday?

KieronGillen
11:03 / 07.07.06
Hopefully and looking increasingly likely.

As a first-series by two creators there's always the chance it won't reach that far, but there are plans in place to collect it. The collection will lack the back matter of the singles (We're taking an EP/Album type of structure) when it appears.

This seems to be the panel we've been waiting for. Will the scene involving the Libertines fan be, well, along the same lines?

KieronGillen
11:31 / 07.07.06
I'm considering asking them to take that panel down, since we did say that they could only use images from the online preview rather than the finished issue 1 we lobbed 'em but... I'm increasingly thinking "Screw It".

It's my favourite panel in the first issue.

Regrettable Juvenilia
11:34 / 07.07.06
Oops - well, if you do want it taking down here, just holler.

KieronGillen
11:35 / 07.07.06
Nah, it's out there now. And it is, after all, a lovely panel.

ONLY NICE THINGS
12:47 / 07.07.06
Although it would be lovelier if the character could maybe look a tiny bit more like Pete or Carl. I know it's late in the day to ask for such a significant change, but I'd be willing to help...

KieronGillen
13:09 / 07.07.06
My lips are sealed on the Libertines bit.

It was one of those scenes which surprised even me in how it turns out. Had no idea that's what I actually wanted to do or say regarding the Libertines.

That is a lovely panel. The cracked reflection is especially nice. The art is very clean and sharp. Appeals to me the more I see it.

I was wavering on this initially, but the more I read here the more I really want to get my hands on it. It looks to be a lot of fun.

And the second half of that interview:

I think I'm increasingly going off on one here. I suspect I enjoy it too much.

Are the Libertines a decent band? I think I have a CD around here I got for free at the Halloween party last year.

They are not.

I'm quite relishing the prospect of a comic which will trigger arguments about music* rather than just, y'know, is that out of character for Cyclops and is it unrealistic to expect realism in a superhero comic and does Frankenstein signify love, etc... There's only so many times you can have the Kula Shaker/Invisibles argument, after all.

*Music I've actually heard (of), which already puts it ones ahead of Brian Wood...

sadly neither GOSH or Forbidden Planet in london have this
and after me getting all exited and deciding not to even wait for the trades like some gushing fanboy
where are the rest of you picking it up?

Regrettable Juvenilia

It's not so much where as when: issue #1 is out in August.

>There's only so many times you can have the Kula >Shaker/Invisibles argument, after all.

i think it has now been scientifically proven that having a character in the invisibles like them was just to show that deep down he was quite a sad geek trying desperately to be cool but not really getting it. thanks for letting me know that i was not alone in being unable to get this comic tho, was beginning to feel deserately left out of all the cool kids conversations

roll on august.

Just wanted to say that for those who've been following this, it's been delayed for two weeks. Don't know why yet, as it's printed and I've had a box of them for almost two weeks now. Very annoying, but will be out in the US on the 16th and the UK on the 17th.

However... cover?

Ag, Keiron you swine! A cover that references Blur and The Auteurs! How did you know?

We are compelled to these things. We are not strong enough to resist.

I have a terrible weakness for Luke Haines.

these are some of the bes covers around, in both senses...

Kieron, does Diamond have a thing with Image lately? CASANOVA #02 has not been sent to some places, #03 announced earlier than it should and now this. or are you guys part of a retailer incentive similar to CASS #01? hope it's the latter.

KieronGillen
22:37 / 04.08.06
Honestly, don't know. Generally speaking, Phonogram is getting a really good push from Image. It's just that comics are a big system and... well, I dunno .

Interview on CBR. Me, I'm looking forward to it.

KieronGillen
11:25 / 16.08.06
Yeah, nicely timed since it's actually out today. Reviews have been from pretty good to embarassingly positive. There's some linked off the site's proper.

Regrettable Juvenilia

From that interview:

"Britpop, as a movement, was purely destructive in terms of its long term influence on the British music scene... It was totally poisonous. So what use are memories of something like that? What does it mean when your founding cultural moment was - to use Kohl's phrase from the second issue 'a cultural Chernobyl?'"

I was already on board, but this is the strand that's really exciting to me. It's talking, more or less, about my generation. A generation of fuckwits. And the worst thing is that it didn't necessarily HAVE to be evil - but that's a discussion for another time...

Anyone on the board able to get a copy? It was mysteriously absent from my local, making me wonder if it was delayed further.

KieronGillen
21:58 / 17.08.06
You in the mid-west States? I've heard that there's been delays there. Otherwise, no, the comic should be there this week if your retailer ordered it unless there's been local problems. And knowing comics, yes, there probably could have been.

Spent the day signing copies in Bristol so they've certainly reaced some parts of the arse end of the universe.
