I like Dissensus personally. It has a far lower number of posters than Barbelith, and the other (non-music) fora are very slow, but there's a lot of people who really care about music and are very excited by it posting there. The Music forum is very dynamic. It isn't as *rigourous* as Barbelith when it comes to theoretical debates, or anti-sexism etc. but it doesn't make me want to claw my own eyes out like some other places. Hipped me to lots of good stuff.
This is still framing it in terms of something you could have addressed through generating content as an individual, which I don't think is the case. I don't think the Music forum and the condition is addressable through conributions from one individual.
I really feel like spraypainting on the Music forum in six-foot tall letters 'YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A BLOGGER OR A DJ OR A CRITIC OR WHATEVER TO POST HERE' BUT IT HELPS, HA HA?
I know that personally I've not noticed that attitude, just a bit of a standard. I'd post more there, but I rarely hear new music that I didn't find out about here in the first place, and I don't know that anyone would really care to post about some of the ancient shit I'm into. Again, unless there was a much greater pool of posters in the first place.
So I'm going to start a series of threads called '1 Genre in 3 Tracks', in which the thread nominates a genre and asks for other people to pick three tracks that, for them, sum it up the best, and to talk about why. Might work, let's see.
Well, I've done my bit my adding more about opera, which is less like crying forlornly in a deserted playground than yelling at oneself into the unforgiving walls of a solitary confinement cell, but there you go.
I can hear you stoats. Just don't know enough about opera to shout back. You've definitely got me interested in going to one at some point (possibly not £200 seats though).
Can I also ask where my Take That thread has gone? A search for it in Music yields bugger all. I know it wasn't the most active thread evah but it served a purpose, in its own small way ...

Music knowledge on dissensus is incredible. Verygoodplus (formerly vinylvulture) is the main place that I discuss music but to be honest it's not a lot of use to you unless you actually physically collect records.
I find Dissensus, not exactly intimidating to post on - more that people are so much more *bothered* than I am, I feel like I can't keep up but the urge to keep up ain't really there. Funny.
