We had pet lambs as children all called Chops which they subsequently became.

Gir I like.

Actually, I was talking to the same ex who didn't let me call Biscy "Jihad" earlier this evening. She didn't think Gir was good. Even after I explained why.

Ah well. I remember when I first got Biscy, I had all maner of names in my head (Kurtz, Elvis). None of them really suited her. Although she was also nearly called Bootsy, after Mr Collins- a name I would use again, were it not for the fact that a friend of mine loved the name so much he insisted on calling her it even after she was named Biscuits.

I like Gir, too. This kind?

I'm kind of hoping she doesn't grow THAT big...

Naming animals is difficult.

Has anyone else found that animals seem to "grow into" their names?

I've always wanted to name a pet Nostradamus for some odd reason.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Sekhmet- yeah, totally. Although I'm not sure if that's just not to do with the fact that after a while you can't think of the word without it being inextricably bound to the animal.

Anyhoo- I'm gonna play World of Warcraft for a bit. Probably back in an hour or so, if anyone's still around.

I had a cat named Zeus, for many years. While he did become a big neutered boy, he never quite had the God of the Sky, tossing Lightningbolts feel to him. His meow was very very high pitched, and he liked to play fetch, and he ...um basically thought he was a puppy. Still, Zeus wound up being a cute name. Like Zu-Zu's petals.

And, my dog Fen is trying to push me out of the chair, which means I'm supposed to take him for a walk. So I'm off fr about an hour as well.

My big neutered boy cat is named MacBeth. Our little prissy hellion cat, Maeve, beats up on him.

I've always wanted to name a pet Nostradamus for some odd reason.
Last night I guessed what card was coming out during a poker game, and I was like "I'm Nostradamus!".

Then some guy at the table said, "More like Nosta-Dumb Ass."

That was always my favourite line in Shawshank Redemption, when they're in the library and the guy goes "Alexander DUMB-ASS?"

Glad to see WoW didn't pull you in for too long, Stoatie. She can be a harsh mistress.

Well, I levelled up (17... I'm still fairly new to the thing) then started getting my ass kicked. Quit while you're ahead, and all that.

Will be going to bed soonish, though. Celebrity Big Brother currently has me by the balls. I'm willing them to go to bed because I'm tired but don't want to miss anything.

I'm back from dog walking. Both dogs are now cashed out on the rug by my feet.

Aw, doggies.

I've just decided to be sensible, call it a night on the beer front, have one more cigarette then go to bed and read pirate comics until I fall asleep.

And then, four or so hours later, it's PUPPY TIME!!!

If I don't post again tonight, then good night to you all. Expect me to be Shifting more frequently in future, as I seem to recall sleep goes right out the window when there's a puppy to deal with.

sleep = six in the morning till around two or three in the afternoon. I need university to sort me out as, clearly, I can't do it myself!

Anyone lateshifting? Puppy and I took an afternoon nap, which means I'm wide awake and she's trying to eat my boots. All the Big Brother celebs have gone to sleep.

So tell me where my 'lithers at?

Enjoying a really terrible exploitation horror film on BBC1 - Tower Of Evil. It's one I've never seen before, and it truly is terrible, but enjoyably so for the very reason that it is giddily manic in the way only semi-lysergic Seventies supernatural slashers could be - cf. The Dunwich Horror.

Ooh... I shall switch over, as the sight of a sleeping Michael Barrymore really doesn't make for great telly.

It's not on for much longer - the cast are being made short work of even as I type - and I have to work in the morning. But there are flaming brands!

Yeah, just caught the end. Still more fun than watching celebrities sleep, though. I'll leave that to the professional stalkers.

'tis done. I must sleep. 'Night, and don't let the puppy bite.

Night. Not letting the puupy bite's fairly easy... not so sure about not letting the puppy eat the vacuum cleaner, though.

Aha. A shift in progress. Now I can stop raving about boats.

Is the puppy still unnamed, Stoatie? Are you going to just decide on one, or put favourite suggestions into a hat, or what? I don't really know how the naming thing works, only having had cats called 'cat'.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
00:07 / 18.01.06
She's still unnamed, and I reckon shw ill be for a couple of days. I'm keeping a few names in my head, and trying to think of her as each as time goes by, and then seeing which one sticks.

At the moment, "Scribble" seems good. But it's all subject to change. Tomorrow she may seem way more "Cappadonna" or "Moomin". (I'm thinking, though, and my understanding of TEH SCIENCE may be wrong here, but "Scribble", beginning with an "s", is gonna be more audible to a dog, as their hearing is generally attuned to higher frequencies, yeah? Biscuits always seemed to react far more quickly to her name when I enunciated the "S"s, at any rate)?

She clearly wants Traci to win CBB, though.

Anyway, I'm all puppy-obsessed at the moment. Please forgive me. I'm being rude.

How are you tonight?

Triffic, thank you for asking. And reaallllly tickled by all the wonderful suggestions in the ‘name my puppy’ thread - that’s why I asked, really. It's still new to me, so I'm loving all the puppy talk. Of all the suggestions, I liked one of the Wu-Tang names best - someone suggested U-Dog.

There’s room in Convo for a general, all-purpose ‘pets’ thread, isn’t there? There was a cat thread a while ago, but, dammit, all sorts of pets should get a look in somewhere. I might start that.

aaaaaand yourself?

Oh, I'm insanely happy. I have a puppy, I have beer, I have cigarettes- who could ask for anything more?

(Mind you, keeping the first away from the second and third is quite a mission in itself).

Oh, and I just watched the new Galactica (the second one of the new run- I know you're a fan too!)- other than Who, TV skiffy really doesn't get much better.

I'm thinking of watching a movie, having bought a whole bunch of bootleg DVDs from one of my minions at work- March of the Penguins is tempting, though I think that in combination with puppy joy it may just lead to death by squee. Mebbe Steamboy... though subtitles may hamper my Shifting.

I'll think of something. Maybe Fantastic Four.

Movie problem sorted. Rock 'n' Roll High School.

Mono got me it for Christmas and I haven't watched it yet.

Ramones=happy. Puppy=happy. I also have a duty to expose puppy to Ramones goodness as early as possible.

Everyone's a winner!

Oh, hell, am I ever a fan. I’m the geekest fan in all of geeky-fandom. I was trying to get my phone to rumble like Adama earlier, as a sort of half-way between a ringtone and vibrate. There's no hope for me.

The last DVD I can heartily recommend - I’m borrowing someone’s copy of Pentangle! Live! - just a half-hour set they did for French TV in the early 70s, it is. All dressed in finest Open University chic, they are. Right now it’s just about the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.

Fantastic Four is good, though.
