Barrymore came across okay there

Well, up to a point. It's hard not to wonder what was going on in his hot stinging, brayne during that interview - I kind of shudder to think. 'They love me, they all love me, I am... awright!

If he's going to be let loose on the UK public, again, wouldn't it be best for everyone if the man, 'fwankly,' was spayed?

I figure I'll just, y'know, not watch his programmes. Worked before.

Oh dear. Saying goodbye to everyone on the DS forum was more emotionally wrenching than it had any right to be.

'Fess up. Which of you cunts has nicked my world-weary cynicism???

Oh well, puppy'll appreciate me not obsessing over the telly so much, I guess.

Well yeah, but the contents of his fevered brane didn't really 'come across' that explicitly to me during the interview. From what he said, there seemed to be distinct nuggets of Selfawaria in terms of realising that being desperate to be liked/approved is a problem he needs to work on.

But yeah. It certainly wouldn't make me watch him being a 'funnyman'.

It's still a good 'un though.

Meanwhile, following a quiet 'word to the wise' from *unspecified Barbelith poster* in teh pub the other day, *unspecified Barbelith poster* having claimed to have had 'insider knowledge,' I put a tenner on Preston to win. Now second, I could've understood, even third, no problem, but fourth... Well I couldn't help but feel I'd been stitched up like a bleeding kipper...

It's a mug's game, etc.

I was quite happy, as I'd been saying Chantelle should win from Day One. Now, if on;y I'd put some money on her when the bookies were fawning over Barrymore. She may not be very academic, but she seemed to be a genuinely lovely girl, almost totally unaware of how disarmingly cute she was. Expect that to be beaten out of her after her ninth appearance on the front of Zoo... *sigh*

So, what's on telly next week then? Am I going to have to talk to real people?

Alex, I thought the correct response to anyone claiming to have TEH SECRET GNOLEDGE was well established. Christ, I thought it was in the wiki.
But let me guess: Your contact, I bet ze wasn't putting any of hir own money on this 'dead cert' because of "professional ethics" or for religious reasons or something, right?
Haha. You plum. Hope you didn't buy them a drink for it.

If it makes you feel any better, Alex, I once lost twenty quit betting on Yeovil Town to beat Liverpool.

I really DON'T know anything about sport, do I?

I would have happily put fifty quid on Barrymore to win, with the express purpose of losing my money.

Are our cultural memories so short? What about the horrible bullying of Jodie? What about the children, eh?

I think that particular episode was rather more equivocal in terms of possible interpretations - whereas the Pete/Georgie harrassing of Chantelle/Preston was more one-sided, with little or no sweetening of the attack with attempts to 'help'.

Ah, well, not sure that's true. Have a look at her Channel 4 BB profile:

She says... Quote: "People are often jealous of my looks but that's their problem not mine."

Hardly anything ever bothers me, really, but I have to admit to being fairly disgusted about this - how dare Barrymore's 'people' treat Stuart Lubbock's 'accidental' death as a media opportunity? Surely whatever discussions Barrymore feels he needs to have with the family (feeling quite sick as I type this, to be honest,) should have been conducted in private? And, ideally, about four or five years ago now? Or am I just a crazy old woman?

Smoothly
18:04 / 30.01.06
In an ideal world, maybe. But that would also be a world where the same newspaper (some of the same journalists in fact) hadn't done everything they could to ruin his life. I can't say I blame Barrymore for wanting the 'lost' evidence to be publicised, for the most popular paper in the country to reverse their vile campaign against him and for Mr. Lubbock to state publicly that he has never blamed Barrymore for his son's death. Personally, I think it's about fucking time.

Alex's Grandma
18:27 / 30.01.06
Well yes, but why now? Barrymore, as I understand it, has pretty much refused to have anything to do with the Lubbock family since 'the incident,' to the extent of moving to New Zealand (where, IMHO, he could easily have just stayed,) as a means of avoiding the issue. At least why else, anyway, would he have gone there?

This all feels a little, I don't know, suspiciously stage-managed, and I'd be a bit surprised if a certain amount of cash hadn't changed hands between Barrymore's people and the Lubbock family. Who didn't seem to be planning on taking the B-ster to court, after all, until he was in the CBB house in the first place. I don't see how you'd move from demanding justice for your dead son, during week one, to the extent of hiring a lawyer to *allegedly* serve a writ on the joint, and then two weeks later sit down with teh hideous monster for an interview.

Fallout from this year's CBB:

I've downloaded The Ordinary Boys' Boys Will Be Boys (along with, from the look of iTunes, a billion other people).

I've really gone off Pete Burns.

Me and Xoc's stupid catchphrase of the moment is

"Would you like me..
