Quite right. Don't fall asleep though.

alas
03:05 / 05.12.05
Ah, alas, little chance of that.

[Sounds like I'm talking to myself, doesn't it.]

I tend toward insomnia. If I start feeling sleepy I'll make a careful bee-line for bed in the hopes of capitalizing on the sensation...

Yeah, I can't see the word "alas" anymore without thinking of it as a name. Barbelith does my head in sometimes.

Just try to get the grading done first, eh?

alas
03:22 / 05.12.05
The grading is done.

See, I'm still awake.

alas
03:32 / 05.12.05
Ok. I am finished. Off to bed. Good night, Sekhmet. Flights of angels sing thee to thy rest, and all that....

I am K-nackered. Just over 4 hours to go, but it's all a bit exhausting. Today we are installing a new theatre show for next week, so I'll be up in the tall lifting platform later, and I also have to wear my steel boots which always makes me tired. But the feeling of slipping on my trainers at the end of the night is bliss.
2 more long days after this one, then 2 days off and a work piss up. yay.

Withiel isn't still knocking around with Oscar and Derrida, is sie? I got all optimistic in the early bit of thie thread and then checked the date...

Good luck cog, ala, all those battling to stay focussed. And anyone wearing steel boots. I'm wearing steel boots. I don't need to. I suppose I could drop a volume of the Acta Apostolicae Sedis on my foot, but the level fo peril doesn't warrant special protection. But damn, they're fine boots.

I've been up late familiarizing myself with the great Republic of Kazakhstan.

Hey, Kegs. Funny funnies. How are you this fine eventide?

Saint Keggers
23:37 / 06.12.05
All right I suppose. Could be better, could be worse. (Im hoping better but right now its wait and see...)

You?

Well, my dogs are desperate for me to take them for a walk, and *I* think I smell a dead mouse or something like it but my spousal unit says there's no dead mouse smell. I'm worried it's going to become really really smelly in her soon, but I have no idea where the mouse would be, if there is in fact a dead mouse and it's not just my imagination.

So, I don't know, how does that make me?

[I'm going to step out for about 30 minutes, now, and walk the dogs. I'll try to check in again after a bit.]

"spousal unit"... sounds like something strap-on that also kills spiders.

alas
01:40 / 07.12.05
Well, that was a bit longer than I intended. Just got off the phone and am now paying bills. Anyone else up?

I'm here for a while. Just sitting in the campus library enjoying the free printing.

alas
01:59 / 07.12.05
It is interesting that, back in my day, we never got free printing. I wonder when, exactly, that changed on most campuses.

alas
02:04 / 07.12.05
("my day" is increasingly the distant past, sigh. I'm all too aware. But i'm not the oldest 'lither--that I know).

Mmmmm...free printing. Every graduate student's greatest temptation.

alas
02:16 / 07.12.05
I have to say, it does seem, somehow, unfair. How much money did I spend on paper alone--not to mention photocopying! reams of copying!--as a graduate student? And this was not so long ago--into the very late 90s, anyway. So now, you kids with your free printing and your electronic academic journal articles that you can just read online or print off at the library--you don't know how good you have it. (This is the electronic version of the "up hill, both ways" walk-to-school-through-4-feet-of-snow, "we had nothing and were grateful" speech.)

If it makes you feel any better, I think it's mostly just my school. Free printing for 1200 students doesn't hurt so bad in comparison to other schools around here. I know my brother has to pay for printing at his college.

Oh, and the damn photocopier is still 10 cents a page, blood-sucking bastards...

alas
02:26 / 07.12.05
I teach at a small school, also, and they have free printing. It probably does still cost money at the big bad grad school I went to.

Ok, so what are you studying at the moment?

charrellz
02:27 / 07.12.05
Well I should be studying equality and race and whatnot for the philosophy exam, but instead I'm going through the PDF thread in the Temple.

alas
02:41 / 07.12.05
Well, now I'm just reading The Nation magazine, and really should be going to bed. (Race and Equality: read Patricia J. Williams "Diary of a Mad Law Professor" column in the Nation. Here's a sample.

alas
02:43 / 07.12.05
... and here's the end parenthesis). Just so you aren't driven crazy by that.

Ok. I really am off to bed now. G'night, C.. & anyone else who's wandering around out there in cyberland.

alas
23:03 / 07.12.05
Anyone up? I have a pack of Luckies and I'm ready to rumble.

I'm awake, but frozen solid. It snowed here today for the first time in a couple years. Everyone was confused and thought it was the apocalypse.

alas
00:21 / 08.12.05
It's also ice cold here. I just walked the dogs and my fingers are still numb. (And I was wearing gloves).

Slim
00:28 / 08.12.05
It's 16 degrees Farenheit here. A bit chilly, I think.

How do, Keggeroo?

Saint Keggers
02:22 / 08.12.05
I do ok. Spent the day putting up gyprock (drywall) and everything from the belt up is a nace shade of pain. Im currently mellowing with a nice glass of red wine.

How's you?

Recovering from a cold. Applying online to the Watershed Addiction Treatment Center. For work, not treatment.

Although, if there's an employee discount...

Saint Keggers
02:30 / 08.12.05
Um... could I attend by the net, like I can get my degree online?
