I like stuff that's got that minimal "purity" to it, but has the potential to be very complex. I think it's a result of playing chess on acid one too many times. I like the idea that anyone can at least have a go- you don't even need to know the numbers, colours or symbols would work just as well. It only takes the capacity for reason and abstract thought, rather than any prior knowledge of anything.
That said, I have yet to complete the first one in the book. I am beginning to question my capacity for reason and abstract thought.
There's also something reassuring about the fact I can be interested in something which doesn't involve simulated violence or reading about people undergoing some kind of hardship or stress (which is, I guess, where pretty much all drama comes from, so covers most stuff I read, not just the horror/serial killer end of things!) It kind of makes me think I could have the potential to be nice and wholesome.
That and the fact I'm so shit at it that book's gonna last me YEARS. |
