I'm managing to send and receive calls and texts, but it's patchy- probably about one in four times it works.

Just checking in. I am never more grateful for working from home than I am today.

I am not surprised by this at all. I have been waiting for something like this to happen, so I have a very bizarre feeling of relief.

I'm wondering if I should pop down the road to Kings College to give blood? But will probably hold on for a little longer until things become clearer.

I'm still only hearing of "security alerts" at Swindon and Brighton. The stations have been closed but I don't think anything has actually happened yet.

Copey Here!

sorry Gumbitch got your text but signals are all farked up here.

Thank god I walked to work- thought the buses looked scarily crowded (people standing upstairs and down) and couldn't be botherd to wait.

SO is ok too- its pretty chaotic here- i walked down through Camden, Euston etc- Marylebone is at a virtual standstill- there's no phone network coverage- we're calling people up that haven't got into work at the moment and telling them to get off buses.

Its actually quite horrible how little information you have when walking/ standing on a bus in- lots of shops are shut so I didn't really know what was going on till i got to Tottenham court road- there was talk of an explosion at Aldgate but nothing more, I didn't know about anything else until i watched a tv in an electrical shop.

My phone then ran out of Batteries as my SO was calling to tell me to get off the bus-
(she thought i would get on one as I left her only the tubes were'nt running..) realising that she would be very worried about this I had to ask a nice man in an electrical shop if he had a charger so i could call her back- phew!

anyway i guess i'm gonna have to walk home later on- the advice they're giving on the news is stay put as all public transport is down- i can't see it being back up today - maybe not tommorow either.

I imagine that'll mean the tube will be down for weeks if not months. Jesus the long term consiquences are horrific.

Hope everyone else is ok

Not that I'm aware of. I'm working in central Brighton now, and haven't heard anything. Thankfully.

I'm just off Oxford Street, and the University has asked us not to leave the building. I'm well. Good luck to everyone. Glad the regulars thus far are safe.

Angel, don't go to Kings cross yet, everyone is right that people should stay where they are.

Nothing on the wires about this. Stations closed due to suspect packages. Possibly controlled detonations.

Jesus. Well, good luck guys. For what it's worth, the bombs seem to be mostly along the Northen Line, and if these were remotely-detonated bombs, the mobile system overload (or shutdown) could be preventing others from going off. Meaning I don't know and am checking for friends in London.

Yes, seconding that. I was wondering if this was the kind of thing where volunteers would be needed (although I'm guessing my blood's next to useless) cos I can walk to Liverpool Street in under an hour, but staying home seems the best option in light of all the other shit elsewhere.

Gah, and I was worrying about being late for a midday meeting, until I looked at the Guardian website... I guess I'm not going anywhere today.

BBC News 24: 2 dead at Aldgate East, Al-Quaeda almost certainly responsible...

God, I can hear sirens outside, even here in Greenwich...

From plasticbag:
was in a meeting when the bombs went off - which it now looks like was the cause of the explosions that have been going off around buses and tube stations around the capital. At this moment in time, the best coverage is on TV and radio, although Londonist has good weblog-related coverage. So far there has been reports of explosions at King's Cross, Moorgate, Aldgate East and Edgware Road tube stations and on a number of buses, although at the moment I don't know much more than that. Here's some coverage from BBC News, CNN and The Guardian. The Guardian's News Blog looks pretty good for coverage too. There's not a lot more that I can say at the moment, except that the timing with the G8 summit and the Olympics yesterday makes it look like a terrorist thing

i live within view of brighton station, and am certainly not aware of any explosions there.

I just put on FOX News to get their perspective (figured they'd have all kinds of terrorist talk). EU SPokesman says this is a terrorist attack, and their reporting soldiers taking to the streets of London. Interviewing loads of terrorism experts, but not making any outrageous speculation. Yet.

I'm working between Oxford Circus and Bond Street today (plus I overslept) so the worst that happened was that I had to take a bus because of a "fire alert" at King's Cross, which happens all the time, and was late in.

I imagine I will have to walk home, but it's not far and is definitely preferable to being blown up.

Weird. Israeli official says Scotland Yard told Israel that terrorist threats were made on London minutes before the attacks? That's got to be a mess up right? Why on earth would Scotland Yard call Israel and say "Hey Israel, this is Scotland Yard, there have been threats made against London".
