I've been watching the news come out about this one like someone watches a car crash, you know it's gruesome and unethical but you still want to see the blood splattered bodies.
From what I can gather (and there's an interview with Bendis, the writer, up later today on Newsarama) Scarlett Witch, with the help of Magneto her father, alters reality to make Mutants the defining force in the Marvel Universe (like they weren't already).
Preview images show the Fantastic Four redesigned looking rather Mutant-centric (Everyone except Thing looks like a previous Mutant/X-men character ala Age of Apocalypse).
Spiderman, who is now an uber-celebrity ex-wrestler (!?!?!) has a "deep dark terrible secret" which is either he is a mutant or he isn't depending on the bias of his House of M miniseries.
Iron Man gets a Transformers style armour upgrade. No idea what the connection is there though.
Things I expect to be retconned/created by HoM:
Beast reverts to a previous form (as is Scarlett Witches memory of him), probably his old Avengers blue ape look.
Mag's becomes some kind of World Leader, probably a peaceful one.
Mag's whole New X-Men story (Xorn/Despot Magneto) to be explained away by Scarlett Witches reality altering powers.
Plenty of "Big Death's", it is after all a company wide event.
The Mutant population has been rumoured to be vastly cut back, the ranks of the X-men (especially their Limbo-bound members) will be thinned considerably.
Anything that happens during HoM can and will be reverted fairly quickly but the powers that be will keep a few key changes to spice up the Marvel Universe and thereby prove that Big Events do change the status quo permanently.
To be honest this whet my appetite when I had no idea what the direction was but right now I think the whole thing sounds awful, an easy way out of some of the better storylines in recent years that have complicated the Marvel Universe.
Storyline and consequences created by the Editors but ghost written by Bendis. |
