Any chance of a Seven Soldiers Heroclix sub-set? Or a DC Direct line of action figures? Personally, I'd love an X-Men Legends -style videogame. This is a great little pocket universe Grant has created, and I'm happy to see some of its characters appearing in other forms.

Jake's next to Adam Strange, behind Cyborg and Hawkman.

I read somewhere that Jake is suppossed to be in Meltzer's new JLA, and I guess that sort of confirms it, or makes it a possibility at least. Ystin is rumoured to be it in as well, IIRC.

i skimmed right past that spread in Wizard without seeing that. Good eye!

wot no manhunter in that line up? he doesn't die in the crisis does he?

Meltzer said in the Wizard interview that he doesn't share the same view that others have; namely, that J'Onn J'Onzz is the heart of the League. I get the impression Manhunter just won't be in it -- although I've not heard any speculation or rumor at all about him dying in IC. I'd bet he stays alive, with minimal involvement in the new JLA.

what a waste of a brilliant character. doesn't meltzer realise that a psychic invisible superspeed shapeshifter would be able to rape practically every second-string character in the dcu simultaneously? who else is he going to have be the big rape guy in his jla run?

No, Martian Manhunter.

And it's assumed Captain Atom will be back at some point. Probably in Superman/Batman.

I'd make up a new character and call it, uhm, the BenBo.

God, I miss Fanboy Rampage.

Yep.

Any writer who doesn't love J'onn is, quite frankly, a bell-end.

Identity Crisis you say?

I might not be a big Meltzer fan, but I love that we'll (fingers crossed) get to see more of Jake Jordan.

I'm assuming that spread is proof positive that the Guardian won't be killed in Seven Soldiers 1.

Just FYI, if anybody really wants to see Seven Soldiers DC Direct figures (as mentioned upthread), you really ought to write in to DC Direct -- they're extremely responsive to the audience's desires, if they think there's a vocal fanbase for the characters they'll be much more likely to consider making the things. Don't let them sit there thinking the Morrison fanbase is too upmarket for shiny plastic toys! Demand your shiny!

I also notice what looks like the [new] Legion's Karate Kid next to Tempest in that group JLA candidates shot - is that some other character, or could it really be Karate Kid from Waid & Kitson's Legion? (of course Legion is 1000 years in the future and I don't get the impression there will be crossover of the characters to our present timeline, but I guess anything's possible...)

Mario

Yes, that's him. There are a couple of characters in there who, for various reasons, probably shouldn't be in that scene. But is this a pinup, or an actual page?

p.s sure that's Benes, Findo? I thought it was Jim Lee.

I'm assuming that spread is proof positive that the Guardian won't be killed in Seven Soldiers 1.

Unless, of course, SS#1 features/mentions him trying out for the League before dying horribly...

...though I think that's unlikely.

It is definitely Benes.

Dunno...could be a cover for a future JLA issue, could be promotional art only done for Wizard. Time will tell...

It might be Benes, but it lacks his normal "neck thicker than head" style of art that sickens me so...

Nope. Definitely Benes. I can tell because of how much it assaults my eyes with its horror.

After watching Escape from New York last night, I was struck by how the denizens of the eponymous prison bore a startling resemblance to the Guardian's subway pirates.

Cam, is the similarity coincidental?

Aertho

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Cameron did use Escape from New York as a reference.

Spaniel
11:05 / 18.01.06
Interestigss. I tried to find any reference to the film in this thread, but failed.

Aertho
11:50 / 18.01.06
I know. Me too. I could've sworn it was either an interview or just a Cameron post that talked about credit card earings and suchlike as if they were artifacts of urban "upside" culture. Perhaps Newsarama, or Buzzscope.

H3ct0r L1m4
13:35 / 18.01.06
if this is the Newsarama piece you're talking about, the refference was for 'Monty Python's Meaning of Life', which is also great. and a day when ESCAPE FROM NY is watched or mentioned is never wasted.

CameronStewart
13:41 / 18.01.06
Actually I haven't seen Escape From New York in years, so in this case, yes, it's coincidental!

Aertho

Coincidental? Blimey.

In the script Grant described the pirates as post-apocalyptic scavenger types, and so I think similarities with other examples of that genre are unavoidable. I'm sure elements from Escape From NY were buried in my subconscious.

But not a deliberate homage or theft, honest! I'm pretty open about my influences and inspirations and in this case it's just coincidence.

I have a little brother who would give out his prepuce to God so he could read GM's scripts on a monthly basis.

18:19 / 18.01.06
Can't we just kill the sheep and be done with it? I mean, when did Grant start needing new eyelids?

Mug Chum
19:09 / 18.01.06
tell that to my little brother (errr...).

He never said we'd give to GM, he said God. You see Grant in a way that I think he'd agree though. Ha! Stupid kids and modernists ppfff...

also... wasn't Captain Atom in the Wildstorm U?

He appears to be in both universes simultaneously -- the first issue of his new miniseries implied that he'd split into two versions. When Cap nuked the kryptonite asteroid in S/B, the silver-skinned version in the above pic stayed in the DCU (reappearing in a subsequent issue of S/B), while a gold-skinned Cap (ie. the "Kingdom Come" look) appeared in the WsU. As yet they don't know about each other -- WsU Cap is busy trying to get "home" to the DCU, but has been unable to utilize Majestic's interdimensional tech to get there, probably because he's actually native to the WsU but doesn't realize it yet. I predict his discovery of his DCU counterpart (the "real" Cap?) and subsequent decision to make a home in the WsU will be the punchline of the miniseries.
