No! I’m sure we’re all hanging on for your date-based anecdote. How can it *possibly* be tedious if you even have such a thing in your store of stories?

Hot Ribena...at this time of night - are you unwell? That’s a drink for when you’re feeling a bit under the weather. I think.

Smoothly
23:15 / 06.01.05
There's some truth in that, Bed Head. But I find that if you approach life as if you're little bit under the weather, mellowness emerges. Try it as an experiment. Make decisions on what to do and what not to do as you would if you weren't quite 100%. Honestly, it's a winner.

The same cannot be said of my date story.

Smoothly
23:16 / 06.01.05
But how rude of me. How are you? Taken down your Christmas decorations I hope.

Mervyn Bragg
Now there's a Fry and Laurie fan...
Hope all is well, and thanks for alerting me to Celeb BB. I had no idea. Funny that, as I write TV previews for a national paper. Never watch the damn thing, these days. So, who are these slebs?

Bed Head
23:24 / 06.01.05
Oh, I never really put any decorations up this year. I was hoping to help my niece do her tree but she didn’t wait, and anyway she’s far too bossy for feckless old me these days. Being as she’s all of 5 years old now, and all. My cards were on my desk - I’m sure I haven’t cleared them off, so they’ve been covered up and buried, I guess. Christmas has become just one more strata. Barely discernible, in geological terms.

Smoothly
23:24 / 06.01.05
Haha. If I had my way with that Mervyn Bragg...

John McCrirck, Germaine Greer, Bez, Caprice, Lisa I'Anson, Jeremy Edwards, Kenzie out of Blazin' Squad, Brigitte Neilsen. Not a bad line-up all things considered I reckon.

What paper, hypno. Or would you prefer not to say?

Bed Head
23:29 / 06.01.05

That is the oddest mix of celebs. How long do they have to be in there? And - crap link ahoy - what say you to the rumours of BB6 lasting for 4 whole months next summer?

Smoothly
23:38 / 06.01.05
Yeah, odd being good, IMO. And I just worship Bez.

I'd be surprised if that rumour turned out to be true. It'd be a tough sell and I can't imagine Channel 4 not being hammered by the regulator for it - that'd be a BIG chunk of of their output. Even as a fan of the show, I'd have my doubts. And can you imagine what that'd do to Ganesh? He'd be dessicated by the end.

Bed Head
23:46 / 06.01.05
It’d be just as bad for us lurkers. When BB5 was on, I was glued to both Ganesh’s lith thread, and the mighty Guardian FU thread. Just eavesdropping, like a right loon. I’ve never even seen any of these programmes, but I’ve managed to become seriously addicted to reading all about them. I can’t believe the TV programme could possibly be more interesting than the threads.

Er, but yes. Odd being good. Absolutely so.

23:48 / 06.01.05
What?

Hello.

Bed Head
23:55 / 06.01.05
What what?

Hello, hello.

Smoothly
23:55 / 06.01.05
Oh, I think it ends on Sunday 24th, btw. That's a fair old stint, and the honeymoon period already seems to be over.
And without wanted to blow smoke up the elephant-boy's arse, I totally agree with you. That thread was mighty. More absorbing than the programme itself, certainly.
Not a fan of the box in general then, Bed? Or just BB in particular?

Hello fridge.

w1rebaby
23:58 / 06.01.05
Every time I post on a lateshift, it seems that I make one post and then fall asleep. Well, this is the second. So there.

zzzzzzzzz

Bed Head
00:10 / 07.01.05
Actually, I think I’ve started to really miss TV. I impulsively junked my last tv because I thought I was just wasting time watching it, but more and more these days I really feel in the mood to effortlessly waste some time - it's more difficult to do unassisted. It makes me a crap guest as well, because all I want to do is watch any old rubbish when I go round other peoples houses.

And goodnight, fridge.

Saint Keggers
00:52 / 07.01.05
Keggers has entered the lateshift.

Hello

alas
01:28 / 07.01.05
And alas is back too. But I really am just nodding in here and then going to bed.

("I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more." Throw your TV out the window, and suddenly you can't understand a single word of lateshift except "Germaine Greer.")

alas
01:31 / 07.01.05
What happens to me, however, is, if I start with the intention of just posting one "good night" post (as I just did), I inevitably post a bunch, as if you all had clapped madly and screamed for an encore (as I'm now doing).

And then when I come in and dramatically claim the Lateship (I'm going to leave it that way--friendship, lateship, loveboat...) as my own little figgy oyster, thinking "I'm in for the long haul" I invariably just go right to bed one just post in.

The torment of it all.

Saint Keggers
01:43 / 07.01.05
Ah que la vie est cruelle!

Benny the Ball
01:57 / 07.01.05
Bird song, and wind that sounds like the sea crashing into rocks even though I'm in London. I love where I live, I love the sounds of early morning on the late shift.

Saint Keggers
02:11 / 07.01.05
It may be early morning to you but its only 11:10pm here. Whats it like, the future? Do you have flying cars when you are? 6 hours from now. Will there be peace by then?

Benny the Ball
02:13 / 07.01.05
When there's no more room in the night, the cleaners shall walk the earth...

Oh, and we have jet packs, finally!

08:04 / 07.01.05
Haha. If I had my way with that Mervyn Bragg...

Nobody would be in the least surprised.
I have the sneaking suspicion I know you, Smoothly.

John McCrirck, Germaine Greer, Bez, Caprice, Lisa I'Anson, Jeremy Edwards, Kenzie out of Blazin' Squad, Brigitte Neilsen. Not a bad line-up all things considered I reckon.
Caught a bit of it after posting and it was quite good. I wondered who that person lurking in the background was - I always hated Lisa I'Anson. Even more talentless than Chris Moyles if that's possible.
It was quite fun watching Brigitte being outdone by Germaine in the attention stealing stakes. I love Ms Greer. It was great seeing blank expressions all round when she was talking about the MC5. I expected Bez to have at least heard of them, but I suppose his musical experiences must have been a bit of a blur.

What paper, hypno. Or would you prefer not to say?
That's right. Sorry to turn the Late into an early shift but I feel fuzzy enough for it to be late.

Smoothly
14:29 / 07.01.05
It was great seeing blank expressions all round when she was talking about the MC5.

Ahhh, the same expressions they wore when she mentioned the military base at Diego Garcia. I suspect she's going to see that a lot.

I'd never really had much of an opinion on Lisa I'Anson until I saw her BB interview. It appears that she counts herself as one of the most successful people of her generation (!), intellectually intimidating (?) and possessed of an irresistible sexual allure (?!). I really think she's confusing herself with someone else.

I have the sneaking suspicion I know you, Smoothly.

From what you say, that's disconcertingly possible. There's a fair chance that my name will be familiar, at any rate. Hmmm. Probably best we don't dwell on that too much.
*straightens Smoothly mask, tucks in ficsuit*

hello. is it late enough? must be late somewhere?
anyone about? i have cherry pie from M&S?

Reality TV (surely an oxymoron), am I alone in not standing under the appeal?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
20:01 / 07.01.05
I'll join you outside the appeal, inchocolate.
I really can't be arsed with most TV, "reality" TV least of all.

Bear
20:21 / 07.01.05
Hooray for reality.

John seems to be a bit of an idiot, no great shock - at least BB mean I get to argue with my housemate.

Friday - drunk! Yeah!

20:26 / 07.01.05
hello Stoatie and bearo. i've a TV licence, carried over from my last place, but no TV at home. happily contribute towards the running costs of Radio 4, though, even post-peel. telly's always on at work. those alpha waves keep sucking me in.

Bear
20:29 / 07.01.05
That's weird that you mention the license how much does it cost for year because I just worked out tonight that it seems that I'm paying for the whole street...

I'm listening to Mr. Crowley!

Yeah

Sekhmet
20:30 / 07.01.05
What time is it?
4:30.
It's not late, no, no!
It's early, early, early!

Well, it's 4:30 here, anyway. But I'm feeling lateshifty, even though the sun is out and I'm still at work. So hi.

Sekhmet
20:33 / 07.01.05
Okay, so what in the name of Oprah is a "TV license"?

The UK just confuses me more all the time...

Bear
20:36 / 07.01.05
Oooh can I?

In the UK you have to pay to own a TV, mad eh - it's all to do with the BBC and the fact that they don't use ads although they should

Here I think - http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/index.jsp

But I have to go now and watch Derren Brown - on 4 - which is free!

Sekhmet
20:40 / 07.01.05
(*stunned silence*)

unheimlich manoeuvre
20:43 / 07.01.05
tis true.
not to mention the written and verbal exams we must complete before we are allowed to own a TV!
Europe = Bureaucracy

bearo- wasn't Channel 4 set up with help from the BBC?

Sekhmet
20:50 / 07.01.05
You know, I always thought I was reasonably well-versed in most aspects of British culture. But between this and the Rizlas...

I actually think having to get a license to watch TV is a rather good idea.

unheimlich manoeuvre
21:07 / 07.01.05
sorry the exams were a fabrication but we do need a licence. pavement to sidewalk. two nations divided by the same language.
night shift is here ... so I better pretend I've been working.
good night or good day.
