What are you, some kind of funky ninja?

Us pirates will ROCK FOREVER!!!

Kind of like old people and the deeply traumatised do.

Yup. 'Fraid Harrison is correct.

All modern rock bands with record deals have either grown up on a steady diet of a five CD record collection, reproduced asexually, or fucked each other so much that the gene pool is the size of the world's tiniest acorn. Rock is deader than my female grandparents.

There are some blinding unsigned/DIY rock bands, but Peel and a limited page count in Loose Lips mean no-one hears them. That's what's been keeping me going, maybe I'll have better luck with dance...

I've been confused for about 15 minutes, just looking at the message box. All I can think of to type is that your strange, and you've not heard many different types of rock music. Some of the bands actually use what you'd call 'dance' music aswell as guitars, drums and bass, and are amazing bands, but even many of the bands that don't use what you'd call 'dance' music, use the guitar, drums and bass in strange and new (to you anyway I'm guessing) ways that are actually amazing too! Yes really!

I'm sure you'll just find this out one day when you actually hear some of it.

In other words : You remind me of the problem I had when I was about eighteen : I'd not heard the right type of rock music and I only thought that dance was any good. I was stupidly wrong.

How old are you?

Harrison, I forgot to add something :

Get with it, check out the new school.

R U All Stuck in the past.

No, I've checked out the new school, and they are amazing too, but I also listen to rock music. And if you knew anything about the spirit of rock you'd know that it's got fuck all to do with what clothes you're wearing!

You are madmadmad.

You know what this thread reminds me of?

A letter written to Metal Hammer magazine in the late eighties by somebody called Jazz'E and somebody else called Pipp'D. They said metal was, like, shit and that.

Furthermore, they said Motley Crue were 'a bunch of faggots rubbing up and down each other, trying to get a thrill'.

It's been fifteen years, and I've never really forgotten it, but still I'd like to thank Harrison Ford for coaxing it from my cloudy memory.

I've heard there's this new thing where like instead of singing people sort of talk rhythmically over music. Rumour is that it's quite popular with young folks.

Besides, on what planet is liking rock and dance mutually exclusive, anyway?

I was blissed out in the Goa Trance tent at Tribal Gathering pretty much the same period I was watching Oasis and Verve.

Christ, next thing you know we'll be arguing about who's stronger, the Hulk or the Thing.

Oh, hang on a minute...

Well this thread's brought tears to my ears as I listen to the Psychadelic Furs for what may be the last time.

I think Sax may have settled on a way to sort this problem out and all remain friends at the end of it. What we need is some kind of mass working to anthropomorphically (sp?) manifest the two tastes in music as lycra and cloak clad, muscled superheroes, I would suggest we call them Rock Chick and Dance Monkey. We let the pair of them duke it out in the sky over Metropolis and whomever wins will decide whther we burn or Whitesnake or Scooter albums.

Separatist. I was blissed out in the Goa Trance tent even while listening to Oasis and the Verve on my boombox.

Excellent work Fridgemagnet, though I must say I envisaged Rock Chick as being somewhat sexier. You see along with my hopelessly anachronistic taste in music I also have old fashioned ideas about the representation of the female form in popular culture. I belong in the fifties really, its astonishing I've made it this far.
