What's that you say Grandad?

ROCK MUSIC ISN'T DEAD

I'm afraid it is.

Silly old Grandad.

Sax, I... I'll admit to being possibly a bit overinvested in this as an issue, but what would be this thing of which you speak.

Just ask Haus what he was doing in the mid-Nineties. And check out that Distillers' track "TANNHAUSER'S GREAT".

Haus of Mystery

I LOVE THAT TRACK. Even though , as a genre, rock is dead. Not in a Jean Grey way, but the REAL DEAL.

All this talk of dead carpentry and rock makes me want to photoshop Jesus on the cross with a badass Gibson axe...but then I would feel kinda dirty.

Rock has risen from the grave, and it's Easter, bitches!

Sir Real
12:33 / 19.11.04
Oh, I get it. Rock isn't the shiniest novelty on the block. Less people interested in making music are learning to play archaic 'instuments' and instead tweak around with some software. It's not what the hip kids are doing. I get it.

This does lead me to ask, where the hell have you been? Rock isn't the leading edge of the industry, or the leading edge of new music. It hasn't been in a very long time. It never will be again. I suppose some people will say, that means it's dead.
I know this might be hard for you kids to grasp, short attention span and all, but try and trust your granddad on this. He's seen it before. Rock is far from dead. Hell, if you like music instead of novelty, blues isn't even dead.

Sorry I didn't catch that Sir Real. Wasn't even listening, too busy listening to some DANCE music on my badass walkman.

Sir Real
13:21 / 19.11.04
Yeah, I get it. You couldn't be bothered to actually learn to play anything (it takes too long and you have to, y'know, concentrate) but you were going to be awake all night and wanted something to do other than grind your teeth and chew the insides of your cheeks. I understand, it's fun and you don't really have to learn that much, just layer stuff on. POWER TO THE MASSES. No, really, I quite like some of the stuff you kids are doing. Keep up the good work.

(They're so cute when they're that age, aren't they.)

The future isn't dance music anyway. It's folk music from the Ozarks.

'S true. I read it in TIME.

I don't even understand what you're talking about Gramps.

sorry to be confusing pops, but that's not actually you, it's a picture of a dinosaur cunningly photoshopped. maybe you should go and lie down.

as if we needed more proof the R0CK causes brain damage...

13:54 / 19.11.04
Ah, right you are. The ol' eyes aren't as clear as they used to be.
And what is this pho-to-shop of which you speak?

Oh Dear.

What ageing rockers like Sir Real don't seem to understand is that advancements in technology don't always mean you don't need no skills anymore bruv.

You heard of an MPC. Can you use one really well, used E drums. Probably not. The "E" in E Drums stands for electronic, you know like what comes out of your plug socket to power your guitar amp pops.

Night Night eggy grandad, we'll make sure we keep the "really easy to make" unlike "good old fashioned tracks with songs" music, down for you so you don't pee the bed.

C U on the flipside pops, i'm off to throw up some shapes in the fuckin' future.

DEAD ROCK.

DANCE LIFE.

REALITY.

SUSSED!

And check out that Distillers' track...

I've always wondered about that one, especially the chorus;

" I'm a hot luvvin' mamma
And I ain't no mouse
I'm your bitch queen baby
I'm moving into your... yeah, that's right...
And
I... AIN'T... GOT... NO... FLIES... ON... ME !!! "

But now it all makes perfect sense.

I thank you.

The Carpenters? They weren't dance OR rock in this reality.

Your assertion that they belong in this thread indicates that you are some form of alternate relity creature and your arguments are thefore invalid.

Ohhhh, I get it- Harrison Ford mentions "the flip side"...
Mac Guyver still has a walkman...

They're still living in the Eighties!

Arrrg! Eighties Dance remixes! Get the garlic and Holy Water! It won't stay dead!

You're both wrong. Rock is dead, dance is dead.

The only music worth listening to now is WHISTLING!!! Accompanied by borderline-arhythmic experimental jazz drumming.

Probably need a hands-free microphone too.

It's nice to see that you can all mask your grief with humour, however it doesn't change the FACT that rock is dead and burried.

You guys should listen to some dance music & drag yourself out of the dark ages.

Seriously it's not that scary, you might actually like it.
