I reread the entirety of Seaguy on the way to work this morning and oh man is it a solid three issues. I didn't notice the EyeMoon until the second time around.
I realized what threw me off on #2, apparently, between pages, Xoo has sunk a cruise liner. Deleted scene?
I loved how mad the whole story is. How would you launch the moon into orbit? A million chinese firecrackers of course! That whole exchange between the two egyptians there was so priceless too. Paraphrased: "No, don't! The hordes of Chinese Fireworks!" "Then let there be a great and all consuming fire!"
That was an awful paraphrase but I loved that little bit of wackiness.
And what more can be said about Cameron that hasn't been said already? He's really hit a new plateau with these three issues. I sensed a lot of Quitely inspiration, but tempered with Cameron's fluidity of line. It's a startling combination. And let's give a shout out to the amazing color work throughout, including the great covers, which look so nice together, color-wise.
It really dawned on me what a fantastic choice it was to have that "Guess What, Seaguy?" moment in #2 be its own page. It crystallizes why comics as a medium rules so hard.
There should be more talking more about #3, yes? I'll leave you to it. |
