I considered adding this to the "Seaguy in May!" thread but screw it, every issue of New X-Men got a triumphant solo thread, so why can't Seaguy?

Seaguy Preview at Popcultureshock

Discussion of the issue can be held here...hope you enjoy!

" I'll get you.

I'll GET you Seaguy one day.

You and ALL your friends. "

I was going to give the whole comics thing a knock on the head, but in the face of this material, I don't see how I can.

This is thoroughly excellent stuff.

I think it's another cleverly orchestrated disinfection...

Does deaths haircut remind anyone else of hitler?

Fantastic work Cameron i can't wait to get my sweaty little paws on a couple of copies.

MY GOD!

ITS HYSTERICAL!

I CANT BELIEVE THIS IS GRANT!

Cameron...I'm floored by your work on this.

I'm getting into the bad habit of buying two copies for a few comics recently. One to give away to noncomicreader friends and the other for myself.

This is the perfect thing to pass around.

I knew I'd have that terrible feeling of anticipation if I read the preview and was going to avoid it...

Nnnnyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar!

And oh yeah, Death does have Hitler's haircut.

Cameron, could you be a doll and print the rest of the pages? I know you have a copy, I saw it in your comp box. This is gonna be fun, fun, fun! I can tell.

I love your art Cam, it fits so well with where this story seems to be going... really gives it a very dynamic mood. Cheers to that!

I think it's another cleverly orchestrated disinfection...

I think it's an end to all that wank and a return to Morrison doing his best work!

The visuals are lovely, too. The gondola and the windsurfers in particular.

Suedey! SHOT FOR MEAT!
10:37 / 11.05.04
Crapola! This looks awesome. Cam, that work is fuggin' (arf) fantastic. All the detail in there is great, the shop behind them... it's all there... no skimping! Top stuff, really. And a skeleton! V nice.

I love how bright and... near the sea it all feels, too! It's fucking lovely.

In fact, I think the best thing I can think about this is how nice and comic book it feels. Kinda "classic". It just feels right, and perfectly fitted to your art, Cam. Actually cannot wait for this, now.

FUCK COMICS! I want this today!

who cares about what's going on with X-Men, really? they ended [for the time being] with #154 and most of Grant's good ideas for them are already being trashed out of stupidity or plain spandex oblivion.

great, great work, Cameron! when is it out? hope this goes so well the second mini is announced before 2005.

oh, which colour is Xoo anyway: pink or blue?

man, Chubby can't bite it, can he?

Arf! Deep fied koala! I must suggest that to Bene's chip shop. Make a change to Mars Bars. You could hold the ears so your ingers don't get burnt. Keep up with the background detail.

Oh I wasn't saying anything BAD about Seaguy. In fact double plus everything ya'll have already said. I'm totally looking forward to it. I'm just saying there are patterns, and Grant's jes so clevah!

Did anyone else catch the line "It's only a game?"

This looks to be very good. More light-hearted, I think, yet still tinged with darkness. Is it a coincidence that this comes out the same month "The Filth" is released in it's complete form?

Bottom line is, this new one seems that it'll be more about the characters and less about the ideas (which seems to be a 180 degree turn from the stuff Morrison's been doing recently... as good as "The Filth" was, let's face it, with a few exceptions the characters weren't all that great).

It's the Anti-Filth. A superhero in a post-utopian future? It's Filthvisibles as told from the healthy metaverse.

Opps!!

Looks great, i'll add that to my collection and thats a promise.

Our Lady Has Left the Building
17:07 / 11.05.04
Ah fuckit, I take back everything I said. These four pages alone prove this is going to piss down on Sebastian O as if from atop a great mountain. I'm really looking forward to this now.

Oh. Gosh. How clever. Just noticed that it's all sort-of-underwater. Look, floaty chess pieces that trail in death's wake. Buubles coming out of the pipe. Chubby don't fly, he swims!

Am I being very slow?

Very hot shit, Cam. It's hard to make skulls expressive without somehow imbuing them with muscles. I think you managed to do it without going that route. 'Course, the eyes and the hat help. But what's with Death's combover?

"Chubby the Choona"... first time I've ever heard those two pop culture references together (ie, Tubby the Tuba and Charlie the Tuna).

Da fug, indeed.

That's ace. It's very funny, and Cam, the art is fucking gorgeous.

DAMN. I was trying not to think about it until it came out. Now I'm all tense and anticipatory again.

Are you all being nice because the artist started this thread, or do you really and genuinely love it? It reads to me like a comic-book spin-off from an Animaniacs type Saturday series. Is it still genuinely original and clever to have a Seventh Seal reference? That Death stuff felt like warmed-over Terry Pratchett. I couldn't be unkind about the art because it's clearly talented work, but it's too cartoony to suit my taste.

I'm a serious fan of things like Zenith, St Swithins Day, Doom Patrol and Morrison's JLA, and found a lot to enjoy in The Invisibles, Sebastian O, Kid Eternity and Morrison's Batman graphic novels. I mention this context because I don't quite see how other Morrison fans are going so wild for this material.

>>>but it's too cartoony to suit my taste.<<<

I've never been able to understand this.

Regardless, I say - completely without sarcasm - that I appreciate your honesty, Kovacs. Sorry the four pages here don't work for you, but hopefully you'll look at the remaining 92 before completely writing us off.

It's very true that this is NOT in the same vein as Grant's major works like the Filth or the Invisibles, but as a long-time fan of Grant's work I can honestly say that this is probably the story of his I've most enjoyed reading since Kill Your Boyfriend. I'm quite possibly biased since I'm involved with the project, but I do think that there's enough in here that fans of Grant's other work will be able to enjoy.

And for everyone else, thanks very much for the kind words. I'm equal parts excited and terrified to see the reaction to the first issue, but I hope it's as positive as the reaction to these four pages...

Doesn't this take place in a fictional place called "New Venice"? If so, there's some really small press book coming out soon with art by Steve Pugh that takes place in a New Venice (it's in all the comic news sites today). Funny coinkeydink. The book in question? SHARK-MAN. No, I'm not kidding. Pugh is a pretty damn solid artist, though.
