I've had a livejournal for almost 2 years (i think?) now, and I've yet to meet a goth, hot or not. What am I doing wrong?

Oh so we're deciding to *have* a lateshift tonight, are we?

Today was good. Eeks, I have to call a lady tomorrow morning about an audition for a gymnast in a music video. And the thing Im most worried about is waking up in the morning.

Check your interests. Are any of them "darkness", "EBM" or "hotness"?

I think I've got "HOTT" but that's something altogether different. And I don't know what EBM refers to. I'm going to guess "Extreme Body Modification." Do I win?

You win 33% of a fat cigar. It's Electronic Body Music. Or possibly Electric Body Music. Not sure which, actually.

So, anyway, those, and maybe also "The Crow".

I'm thinking of getting a livejournal [snip] it would allow me to meet lots of hot goths.

Bloody immigarants, coming over here, stealing our women! Drinking our vinegar!

Curses! I thought all these fish oils I'm currently ingesting were starting to do their thing.

As much as I secretly lust for the pale fire of nubile goth flesh, I'm not going to pretend to like the Crow. I just can't do that to myself.

What the heck is Electric Body Music? Amplified peristalsis? Or something even more horrifying?

Blamed if I know. Apparently goth is divided between trad (Sisters of Mercy, hairspray, red wine) and cyber (EBM, green hair, speed), and never the twain shall meet. Because it's trad on one floor and EBM on the other. It all sounds very interesting, though, in a Hebdigy way.

Anyway, hot goths aren't really the point - there's a sense of belongong with Livejournals that I find interesting in what is essentially an enbaling technology. Is it a value add, do you think? The friends list, the private posts - things you can *sort of* do with Blogger, say, but which are not built into the functionality in the same way...

What's best about the livejournal community is that people tend to alternate personal posts with reviews, or social commentary, or work-in-progress artwork. With a manageable amount of people on your "friends list," your friends page becomes an ever-changing stimulus to discussion. It's weird - and this might just be me - but I find the simple addition of avatars makes the comment function so much more personal on lj than your standard blogger/mt features. There's a lot to be said on the taxonomy of avatars as well, and how they contribute to atmosphere/interaction. For instance, most of the people I interact with DON'T use pictures of themselves, which is (I think) the norm (or at least the largest subgroup of avatars.

Threaded discussion in comments is also a key feature, as well as e-mail notification. Those are features I sometimes wish this board had. I actually think LJ is very well designed for communities, and a similar model might supplant message boards altogether. Features I wish LJ had would be a post -classifiction system like Moveable Type. And really should figure out how to embed it into a "real" web page so I can have permalinks and stuff. There might be a template that allows that now. I'm not really sure.

not that it's late, here, where i am, although it *feels* late, i am tired. when i watched the oscars and i saw johnny depp, i screamed at the tv, "johnny why aren't you my boyfriend?!?" then they flashed to tim robbins and i said, "tim, why aren't you my husband?!?!" the answer to the former being because he lives in france w/his beautiful model wife, and the answer to the latter is because susan sarandon could kick my ass. i thought most everyone looked good except uma's dress was horrid and charlize was too tan. i didn't need to see billy crystal naked but the bit in the beginning w/michael moore was funny. ummm yeah. i heart commenting on conversations from two days ago. : D

mazarine, that link was so funny, i didn't even laugh. i might in a few minutes. i mean this in the best way: this is the same reaction i had to the part in the movie airplane! when mrs. cleaver talks jive. it is mrs. cleaver, isn't it? or is it mrs. brady? it's been a while. ...............it's not even late but i really need to go to bed. i'm absolutely exhausted and have been ever since i woke up on sunday going, "whyyyyyyy did i go to the second bar? why?" 4 am bars, man, they're trouble. it's like greg dulli said, that he lived in new orleans until he got a postcard from his liver telling him to leave. yeah.

Krispy Kreme. One just opened a week ago, and there was a forty five minute wait in the drive thru on Saturday night at midnight, but I finally got through yesterday before noon with a scant twenty minute wait. Hot donuts, hot damn. God it was good. My heel was thumping on the floor while I ate one. It also doesn't hurt that they tore down the sushi place where I got scales in my tuna last year to build it (and yes, I'm still dwelling).

Out of the ashes of terrible sushi, fabulous donuts. That sounds really gross, but I promise you, these were primo donuts.

Donuts.

Now all I need to do is make it up to Canada to a Tim Hortons, and I'll be in the donut mile high club. Or something.

Not for long, alas. Just booting up my old Win98 machine. I think I may clean it out and then experiment with putting Red Hat on it...

Still using Win98 on this laptop. There was an abortive attempt in the adjective noun househol to go all Red Hat on the big PC, but then we moved and lost momentum.

Likewise, win 98 on a laptop. I think our big PC is pre-win-95. Apparently you can play cards on it (seems a very innefficient use of space).

Ok clever people, where is Earls Court (aside from "in London", which I gathered) and how bad is a demonstrator job at £50 a day?

What's a demonstrator job? (I have a mental image of you doing backflips against the occupation of Iraq *grin*.) Is that like when you demonstrate some new kitchen gadget, or is it more like the folks that walk up and down Oxford Street with big signs that say "GOLF SALE"?

Haus, you'll be happy to know I posted some Goth-bait on my livejournal today. One post about the upcoming so-called "Goth Biennial" at the Whitney, and another about the "weird" short story competition McSweeney's is running. Which you maybe should consider entering, if my memory's of "Mount the Face" are anything to judge by.

MC- Oh how I'd love to be paid for that, but so far London hasnt beaconed me for that purpose. Today, I was refused a job because I dont live in London, and Im getting slightly sick of it.

Kitchen gadgets, beauty products, leather cleaner or bras. Bras being the best paid one, and probably the one I could do best, ie are more likely to sell themselves. It could feed my Ebay habit for a good long while.

I'd say go for it, gingerbop. £50 a day is more than I was earnign when I lived in London, that's for sure!

Bras do indeed sell themselves, but I'm not sure how you'd go about demonstrating them. Flick them across the room like elastic bands, maybe?

Oh Mordant, I have a deep respect for Goth culture. I'm looking into Goth fonts for my next tattoo. It's going to say "When you smile, the world smiles with you."

You should enter this contest as well. There don't seem to be any country restrictions, and the prize is a hefty $3,000.

Ethan Hawke

That depends on whether or not you think Dave Eggers is evil.

At the very least, I think they're eerie dollars.

I can't decide whether or not to eat this leftover sushi. It was from last night, and it has a lot of avocado involved. As well as fish.

Cover it in green food colouring and chant Loveraftian dirges over it. Then it'll be safe to eat. Unless it eats you.
