I'm definately with the bound book with numbered blank pages idea, in my head I'm seeing something like the Grail Diary from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Other inspirations are John Doe's diary from Seven.

Also I've seen some quite fun websites where they've taken a picture of an open book and then add content in where the pages are. So you get the experience of flicking through a book, a bit like those books in Myst. So eventually it would be cool if someone could archive the project as something like that.

Size:
I was imagining those Black bound hard cover sketch books that you can find at almost any art store. Preferably smaller than 8.5x11" perhaps 5"x8" or some such... it'll be easier to mail than an 8.5"x11" book. They are usually about an inch think which means quite a number of pages. At a smaller size I could see anyware from 2-4 pages per person.

I'm sure they can be found with lined paper but I wuld personally prefer to see blank pages instead. Who needs lines telling us which way to write or draw!!!

Having numbered pages isn't as big a deal for me... I'm more attached to line free pages myself. but hey whateverworks!!!

I'd definitely offer to buy it, as I love any excuse to wander around a stationery store.

however, I'm afraid I'm far too shy to start off the book

Canson brand sketchbooks --they're black hardcover sketchbooks, as Mr. Tricks describes-- they're made so that they lie perfectly flat, no matter where they're opened, and they come in larger and smaller sizes. I sort of think that smaller is better.

Idea: if bk gets the notebook, then mails it to Kegboy... then he will get cancelled stamps to start his pages with! What do you think about that?

I've no objections although I do think it should be mailed to the closest person on the list to you.

We should make a list of the people on the list and their adrreses..its late now though so not tonight.

I was going to go off and buy this today - the small one is, what, 8 1/2 x 11? is that the size we want, or should we go bigger? surely not smaller.

I'll buy it tomorrow, providing I have some agreement, I don't want anyone annoyed that I bought one too small!

I have it, 9x12.

I believe that qalyn and todd are the closest to me. any objections to me sending it to one of them? I can do it as early as tomorrow.

remember, I'm not contributing until after others do, I'm far too shy.

ok, I'm sending it off to qalyn tomorrow, unless I get objections or other suggestions. he and todd will have a meat fight over it when it arrives.

ok...now we just got to figure out the order

ANy mapfriendly people want to give it a shot?

Mr Tricks
17:09 / 04.11.03
I don't think we need a Map per-say...

people can prettymuch figure out who they will either be recieving it from or mailing it to:
I will either be recieving it from Izabelle or mailing it to her as she is closest to me geographicly...

Next closest will be fred in L.A. so chances are I'll be recieving it from one of these 2 people.

Eternal Schmendrick who is in Texas is more likely to recieve it from fred or mail it to fred. Meanwhile either Izzabelle or I will be mailing it to Vancouver, BC, Canada.

and so forth...

xcept poor Nietzsch has to pay postage to Australia, and The Fool to Finland...

and for a 9x12" BOOK!!! it couldn't have been a smallish 5x8" book that would fit in a 8.5'x11" envelope could it!!!

bitchiekittie
22:46 / 04.11.03
I'm sorry!

well, I can still buy another one and keep this one for myself. it's quite nice

Mr Tricks
22:51 / 04.11.03
it's OK Kittie . . . well I don't mind having the extra room to groove on the page!!!

I suppose it will get heavier and heavier as more stuff gets added/pasted to the book . . .

I guess I've just glad I don't have to mail it over-seas . . .

I suggest a plush-lined, reusable box, the outside of which is removable laminate, under which art work can be secured and displayed. The box should be part of the project.

I'd say use an ordinary padded envelope, anything fancy at this stage will probably just slow things down, I want to play with this now . And people can decorate bits of the cover as they choose as it goes round.
