If I stay awake for just a few more hours I will break my personal record. But this time I'm not complaining about insomnia -- this time I'm revelling in it.

After a while everything starts to shimmer....

Insomnia and VDU burn once made me think my dirty washing was pulsing up and down in the basket, like a special effect on Dr Who.

God I miss insomnia. I'm about to head to bed, work tomorrow, of course. My Latin class starts tomorrow night as well- I visited the campus yesterday to pick up my text book, and I knew it was a Christian school, but the place is crawling with Friars! It's got a Friary! It was so neat, I've never seen a Friar before, and I suspected they secretly wore sneakers, but all the ones I saw were wearing sandals, and I was worried about them getting lyme disease. I wonder if my class will be taught by one, cause that would be really spiffy. (Sorry, descended from Southern Baptists, we don't have Friars.)

And since it was graduation, the bells were going. First there was a religious number I didn't know. Then there was "Some Enchanted Evening," "Do, a Dear," "Getting to Know You," and "Oh What a Beautiful Morning." I didn't really know what to do with that, so I just bought my book and skedaddled. Latin, Friars, and the soundtracks of South Pacific, The Sound of Music, and Oklahoma. I may be well and truly out of my depth.

I doubt that Maz, I think you may just be finding a deeper level to swim.

Oddly enough last halloween party I went to I went as A friar...borrowed a robe that had been in my frienda family for generations....was almost ready to shave my head I was....

I've just discovered that I can remotely control my eMule P2P client on my home PC from my terminal at work! It's ace!

A colleague asked me if I could download a movie for him - I managed to search for it, find it and start my home PC downloading it, all from my office at work. I sit here flabbergasted at the sci-fi world we are beginning to find emerging around us.

Wine. I need wine.

Me up. Again, I am avoiding working on this web stuff that I'm supposed to have done for my parents. Joy of joys. What will I do? Go to bed; I've a fucking terrifying headache.

Well, given that I'm talking to myself again, I'd just like to say "woo!" because Eddie Izzard is touring Australia next month. Woo!

Hiya Rothkoid, how's things? You do throw the late shift into confusion, it being 9.40am here.

I'm at work, feeling dozy cause I didn't get to sleep till 2 and then got up at 6. Zzzzzzz. And feeling unhealthy cause I just ate a bag of crisps.

Did you get the Web stuff done for your parents?

Ah, but sometimes crisps are the best things ever! And it's 2:48 am here. I'm officially on the late night shift—unlike you morning fakers!

Hey.
It's even later now.
I'm still here--kapow!
Whatcha' doing how?
Milk the sacred cow.
Hey.
Gotta' rape the sow.
Suit up it's luau.
Ya’ know there’s fields to plow.
Smell the cat’s meow.
Hey.
Puke over a ship’s bow.
Forget about the Dow.
Forget about the Dao.
Taste coyote’s howl.
Hey.
Feed your tummy’s growl.
Always beware the owl.
Don’t loose your favorite towel.
Pretend that you can’t scowl.
Hey.
No time to buy a vowel.
Don the sacred shawl.
Throw away your trowel.
Befriend a water fowl.
Neigh.
Soundless mouth agape (w)O(w).

No. Am still doing it. Sigh. Got sidetracked by beer. And now am feeling quite depressed as my fucking lawyers didn't get the £500 I sent them, apparently, and have sent a debt collectors' letter, so I just feel a shit and gah.

I find myself once again absolutely astonished by what Barbeloids can find to have fights about.

Meanwhile, I am being kept up by my computer - I think imay have a virus and am having to scan the HDD. No fun at all. And once I've restarted it will all probably be fine anyway, and I shall feel like an eejit, but hey ho.

Anyone around?

Yep, I'm around - tho' probably not for long. Stayed late tonight to finish paperwork, came home and find myself unable to sleeeeep...

I'm up, trying to rewrite my nanovella. My exciting hard-drive related task is actually buying one, seeing as the one in my laptop experienced a Mai-tai flashback (Spilled a cocktail into it Boxing Day 2001) and went futz 3 months ago.

It's the curse of the fourteenth late shift! The insomnia thread!

Quick, turn off your computer! TURN IT OFF!! Before it's too...

uh...

late.

Hey Haus, I was hoping to see you contribute to the thread I started on language in the Headshop. I mean, you seem to be a pretty language oriented guy, and I was looking forward to hearing your theory bitch thoughts on language!

Wazzup?

I'm around. At work. Listening to Barry Adamason, and considering the carnage that will ensue from my upcoming housewarming. (This Friday, though I doubt anyone from up there will fly down here for it.)

My headphones are comically huge. This is almost as good as seeing a real live tiger.

Harsh. I am currently in the process of refitting my laptop in an attempt to avoid convincing myself to get a new one. *And* I do have a virus, which is nice. A pox on file-sharing...

Zilcho - I don't think I've seen that. Is it recent?

The Return Of Rothkoid
23:47 / 20.05.03
How are you refitting it? Sometimes even a simple defrag/reformat/degunk combo can work wonders.

Which virus?

I can't believe I only just started watching The Sopranos, incidentally. I have a sneaking suspicion I'll end up looking like Tony, but with sideburns instead of gold rings. This could be a good thing.

Hmm.

'Koid, every night, as if by magic, you appear in this thread. I keep waiting for you to offer someone a costume to try on...

23:49 / 20.05.03
Yeah, it's sitting in the top five or six threads in the Headshop. I started it on Friday, but only Hermes Nuclear has replied. I'd like to examine language as metaphor, but other approaches to and thoughts on language are more than welcome.

At the moment, I'm doing the Generic Henchman look. Black t-shirt. Evil glance. Etc.

On Friday morning, though, I'll be able to do a henchman-of-leisure-in-bathrobe, as I'll be at home. Go me!

Or, if it's cold, henchmen-in-flannelette-jammies look. Just in case anyone needed a purgative or something...

Feel free to send costuming suggestions.

Ugh, I mean, 'I keep waiting for you to offer someone the chance to try on a costume'. Ever since the terrifying punctuation and grammar thread I'm terrified of Haus crushing the life out of my with his muscular yet silky soft hands...

For me to offer. Jesus. I'm at work, where reading for sense is what I do, and I cannot even read a simple sentence properly.

Eek.

Nesh: We're two episodes into the new series, here: cable-theft, daughterly Europe plans and vomiting wives. Rock.

Now, now. I'm only mean to mean people, Biz, and you're just for huggling. Oh yes.

Rothk - more physical than that - I have about 8 power supplies, all of which have to be jiggled to get a connection, so am geting a new one of those and a new battery (the current one shows five LEDs but seems to drop at incredibel speed to about 20%). Am pondering a CD-RW bay module as well, but that might be overdoing it. I'm so bad at parsimony...

Zilch - Oh, I know the one. Yes, sorry - my head has been soupy and sleep-deprived lately. I will try to think of something worth adding; maybe Austenian performative acts?

I never did get into the Sopranos, which seems a shame given that it is meant to be absolutely darts, but by the time I got round to watching it it was about 2 series in and I figured I would never be able to keep track...

Oh, the virus was/is W95.CIH.remnants. It appears to have come with my new tablet's image software, so I think I shall delete it, uninstall the software and just use Photoshop E...

Haus; check that it's not the jack (rather than the plug-in supply bit) that's porked. That's what went on my laptop, and it was cheaper to just bin it than repair. I still need to get into the HD, though, to recover some receipts. Eek.

CDRW? Depends on how fast your laptop is, frankly. I had an external one, and it took an age, though this is probably due to USB more than anything else.

And I'm only just starting in on The Sopranos, and this is what, the fourth season? It's pretty simple to pick up, I think... and the first ep I ever saw featured Tony monstering someone with an ice bucket, so I was sold.

Hey cool Haus. If I recall correctly, I mention the issue of speech acts in regards to something Lurid had said elsewhere, so it'd be a good angle. And no rush, of course, whenever you're up to it. I had been thinking about sending you a PM about it but a) there was no rush and b) now I don't have to bother!

Sopranos is a show that I watch on occasion, but not all the time. So I probably miss out on some of the broader story lines. Still pretty good though.
