Has anyone seen the trailer yet? Apple.com was supposed to have released it today, but I can't find it.

I'm psyched to see a preview but not psyched about waiting til late Sept. for the movie.

Aint It Cool News clarifies - it'll be up sometime today after 1 pm EST:

Cause Joss said so!

No, it's 4:00 EST and 1:00 PST.

Am I obsessive enough to hit the apple site at 9pm GMT to get a first look at this? ...looking that way at the moment .

And am I the only one who noticed there’s no Shepard Book in the trailer, even though reports said the entire cast was back for the film? Interesting.

I heard that book does appear, but only in a small role. And also, I think Joss said the song would not be in the movie.

Otherwise, that trailer is indeed awesome, particularly those River fight scenes.

I am... in awe.

Can't wait for this. I'm highly picky when it comes to actually getting off my ass and going to the movie theater, but for Joss Whedon, I'll do it.

>> And also, I think Joss said the song would not be in the movie.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!

(maybe at least a version of the Firefly song can play over the credits at the end...?)

I also heard that Book would barely be in it due to scheduling conflicts for the actor.

Aint It Cool News reports special May 5 screenings of SERENITY around the country:

Shiny!

It also occurs to me that we might eventually need to create a new thread called Serenity, or we could just make all comments on the movie part of this thread.

"Cant stop the signal" Well it seems the signal stops at the bloody border! Grrrr!Arrrgh!

Damn, the closest one to me is in Atlanta, and I don't feel like driving to another state to watch a movie.

Tamayyurt
17:06 / 27.04.05
...which doesn't even matter cause they're all sold out (all ten theaters).

Does anyone know why their motto/slogan is "Can't Stop The Signal"?

FinderWolf
19:12 / 27.04.05
I was wondering that too, never heard much about a signal in the actual series.

I think it has something to do with River and the fact that those were Reaver ships. Big ones. Lots of them. And those were either Reavers or aliens there.

Which means that River might be a beacon of some sort.

And...jesus. River's martial arts. Right on par with the creepiness of the "don't look, don't look, don't look" scene from that episode where she closes her eyes, grabs a gun, and shoots three men dead with three bullets.

My only gripe is that there was sound in the space scenes. I loved how Firefly was one of the only shows where there was no sound in space.

September 30th is a long way away. Le sigh.

Tamayyurt
04:44 / 30.04.05
There are no aliens in the Firefly universe. And yeah, sound in space... maybe it's just for the trailer?

invisible_al
08:19 / 30.04.05
That's what I was hoping as well, it's the one niggle with the trailer that in certain places the sound is a bit duff or pedestrian. I'm hoping it's just because the film is still in post production, still I expect they'll tweak it after the test screenings in the states. Damm those american fanboys, damm them to heck .

But on the whole, warm glowy feelings all round for that trailer .

Nope.

Start a Serenity Spoilers thread. We'll read it and pretend we haven't.

Hmm...I started a new thread for the movie but I wonder if we want spoilers right off the bat, months before it comes out. Maybe put your spoiler-review here in this thread (now that there's a separate one for the movie itself) with tons of spoiler warnings in it to ward off fans who don't want to read the details...?

I say spoil away. You don't have to read it, kids.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
08:27 / 10.07.05
Joining the party late, but for anyone who's interested, HMV in the UK are doing the box set for eighteen quid. Bought it yesterday- so far I've watched the Train Job and Bushwhacked, plus the pilot (which they've kindly put at the beginning- and which I'd seen some of at JtB's house, but was fairly blitzed and remembered little)- I really really like it a lot. If it's true it gets better, then this could be one of the best eighteen quids I've ever spent. Gonna try and watch some more today.

It does, Stoatie, it does. Vincennes and I bought it and, to be frank, are completely gay for it. Think my favourite so far is either Shindig or Our Mrs Reynolds, but we've just watched Out Of Gas which has some great moments; notably how Mal met Kaylee.

But yeah, I'm loving it, and am going to be so sad when it ends. In, like six episodes.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Just watched Our Mrs Reynolds... (it's addictive. Can't see myself leaving the house today, except to go pick up more beer, to be honest...)

...man, this show's ace. It's like a pirate western in space. How did it take me so long to get round to watching it?

Also, from watching this, Buffy & Angel, and reading his X-Men, it occurs to me that, with or without the pop-cultural trappings, Mr Whedon writes dialogue the way Kevin Smith thinks he writes dialogue. Mr Smith is sadly mistaken.

(And to think, as I left the shop yesterday, I was thinking "Stoatie, you twat. Just one more bargain box set that you'll watch the first few episodes of and then lose interest" Sometimes I'm glad my first instinct is to tell my inner voice of calm to fuck off).

I'd just like to mention that I've seen Serenity (twice) and it is fantastic!

Off-topic, but on the subject of cheap DVD box sets, Angel seasons 1-3 and Buffy seasons 1-5 are available from www.dvd.co.uk for eighteen quid each, no postage. It's last year's Amaray reissues, so the packaging isn't as pretty, but like I give a fuck about the presentation of cardboard...

Oh, Sept. 30th (when it comes out in the states) is practically Oct. so it's not that big a difference. There were two special screenings in Miami, everyone sang the theme song and the beautiful Gina (Zoe) Torres came to one and signed autographs.

I know there were special screenings.

Stop rubbing it in, you bastard.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
18:40 / 11.07.05
I just watched the last episode.

Fuck, that was cool.

And I can't wait for Serenity. And the cool thing is, that that's not primarily because I want to see what happens. I just wanna see the characters again. I'll miss 'em.
