Yay for breathing.

I just bought a new mattress on Ebay. Now totally poverty-stricken until next payday, but I don't care. Very happy.

I am a bad person. I know this because no matter how many times I see it, this still makes me laugh, cruelly and immoderately.

Virtual Slide Rule.

Virtual Slide Rule WITH RUNES ON.

That's... peculiarly fascinating. I never could get the hang of slide rules, but the virtual kind is just as much fun to play with as a real one, it seems.

The one with runes is just weird. In a cool, weird kind of way.

My lovely manager, who has always had good things to say about me, has agreed to provide a reference for the TEFL job I want to apply for.

People are being so nice to me at the moment it's positively embarrassing.

I know this is going to be an odd place to post this but...

I'm sick and went to make myself a cup of my favorite black currant tea I hoard as a treat. as I was putting the tea into the tea clamp spoon thingy I noticed something odd. There was some sort of larvae wriggling around in the tea. I started laughing and chucked the contents of the clamp and contianer out in the trash and grabbed another thing of tea (wiggle free tea I checked like 6x).

Anyhow I'm very happy my reaction was not anger or misery but laughter. It seemed so perfect that my reserved treat would end up being useless. could be the fever talking...but what the hell.

Today's Man-Man has not only a weird Werner Herzog/Timothy Treadwell reference in it, but the following "too graphic to show" placeholder for a savage bear attack:

Well, I get a kick out of it, anyway.

That paragraph I scribbled on a scrap of paper in the middle of the night . . . is actually really good! I'm astonished! (Also, I like the word 'astonished'.)

world beard and mustache champions.

if you follow it all the way to the end of the beard/mustache pictures, there's a link to the "world's wackiest holidays" which include the tomato fight, a naked festival in japan (if you find the actually naked guy hiding in the loincloth guys and touch him it's good luck), and a race in england where they run down a hill trying to catch a giant rolling cheese. the winner gets the cheese.

My moustache is, well, better than it was a week ago. I think it's a keeper. It's still going to be laughable for a bit though.

It makes me smile to hear that apparently The Wire apologised for missing out the umlauts in my band name* in the listings for next month.

Two coincidental things today:

1. Get mp3 in mail of The Give-It-Ups (a Barbelith-related band) covering a song I wrote 11 or 12 years ago.

2. Find same song big-upped by someone nostalgic at Something*Positive on the LiveJournal.

No relation between the two incidents that I can tell, but I'm glad people still like the song.

My partner is away for the weekend, whoch isn't greatnews, really.

But, I do have a crate of Lager, a packet of energy drinks, lashings of incredibly spicy foods, Merzbow Cds, every Essential X-Men book and well over a hundred episodes of Sailor Moon to watch.

This WILL be a good weekend.

1. computer works again. at last. and, with all the upgraded components I mistakenly believed would fix the problem earlier, it now runs better than ever (except that the sound card drivers are being unruly.)

2. bedbug apocalypse. bye fuckers! the cleaning/spraying process was the most disgusting thing ever, but sleeping all night long? that, I can get used to.

I just received a phone call from my future Mother-in-Law and it went well, I was positively charming and witty!

This is odd because I'm not charming, or witty, and her parent's make me astonishingly nervous, and I DESPISE Phone conversations.

Phone conversations turn me into babbling wrecks, unexpected ones even more so.

My deafult status is nervous babbling wreck, how did that conversation go well?

I just spent a week with some old housemates on a scottish island that is largely set in the late 1800s (no electricity, no phone signal except at the top of the 'mountain') and we had a fantastic time! We spent the days adventuring up hills, into the loch, around coves, and into the waiting jaws of midges and ticks, and at night we cooked together, ate and drank heartily, then retired to sit and read, either individually or to each other, play games, and generally have ripping good fun (© Enid Blyton).

Ah good friends. I heartily recommend them to all.

The isle is Carna, in loch Sunart. It has no postcode but can be seen here. The only downside was the 11 hour drive to get there. Still good fun though.
