My 16-year-old blind, deaf, lumpy, three-legged, snaggle-tooth dog wanted to play fetch today. She usually just sleeps an eats and occasionally stands by to get her ears scratched, but here she was bringing her stick and dropping it by me, I'd throw it into the next room and she'd waddle in there and bring it back, even flipping her head up when she dropped it to kind of toss it back, just like when she was a puppy and throwing a tennis ball back. What a sweet old dog she is.

I remember I had said last Christmas that I had become a "catalyst for peace and healing" in my family. And today, it is really apparent that is truly happening. There are generations of dysfunction in my family that had to end, and it is. I will not tolerate these harmful cycles to continue. My mother and father are actually getting it! They are really beginning to respect my decisions. I may even get them to understand my decisions about certain "family friends" who make me uncomfortable. Not quite there yet, but nearly!

It is a lot of work. It has taken an enormous amount of patience and compassion that I never thought I had. But if there was ever something that my stubborn mind and passionate heart has ever been good for, it is this current refusal to give in to the habitual and dysfunctional cycles that have haunted my family.

There is nothing better than this peace of mind. I wish it for everyone.

Medulla, as someone who is also dealing with two generations of familial habits right now, reading recent threads by you about certain 'family friends' I am so fucking chuffed for you. I could shed a tear.

Big up!

Medulla, I reckon you rock a hell of a lot.

Being able to extricate yourself from all the conditioned crap that's imposed on you before you know any better is hard enough. Then using that hard won-experience to delve right back in and disentangle others is the stuff that shining people are made from. It's an attitude I find inspirational.

In my opinion, there really isn't any greater work than that.

Keep smiling through it!

Triplets, thank you. I really hope things work out well for you, also. So far so good!

Iamus, I can't think of a better reason to develop and work on one's self, other than to help others. Starting with my family seemed like a natural choice since they are not completely whack. They are just hurt like me.

Venger...NO, YOU rock. And don't forget it!

Inkwitch: I totally loved that name too.

Start with yourself, build up through the family and out and out and out...

Everyone's just hurt like somebody else.

The German stocks market went up almost 3 % in the last hour! Maybe the downward spiral over that ridiculous housing credits hysteria will finally blow over. German stocks lost more than 10% in recent weeks because of this, which doesn´t make any economical sense. This is lookign good (hopefully I´m not jinxing anything with my jubilation).

This post reminded me that the other day I found This site. I love it that there's a whole site dedicated to filled pauses, even if it's a little overdone with the,um...cutesy examples.

Good grief, it's chucking it down outside. There's something satisfying about the rainstorms in this part of the world; they're just so enthusiastic, no half measures. Lightning flashes that light up the whole sky! REALLY LOUD thunder! Gallons of lashing rain! YEAHHHH!

Hehehe!

I finally got pulled in for an emergency shift today at the pub that's been my watering hole/venue of choice since I've been old enough to tipple. The woman that owns it is my sister's best pal, and after I helped her move house the other day I made it clear I'd be interested in shifts as and when they're going. Today somebody called in sick 15 minutes before their shift, and I was the first one to answer the call.

Today I:

1) Got to work with my good friend Michelle, who I first met at my old job and who I don't see nearly enough of anymore.

2) Got called the best barman one of the customers had ever had serve him.

3) Got no less than three drinks bought for me (which I shared with Michelle and the other girl I was working with, who I know of through friends but never really talked to before. She's cool).

4) Got talking to the promoter of the bands playing downstairs (one of the guys that bought me a pint) who says his bands are desperately in need of artwork.

5) And when I told them it was my first day on the job they called me a legend and repeatedly shook my hand for the rest of the night.

This is all good stuff which bodes well for future shiftage and therefore would also mean I'd be getting paid to get back into the local music scene where I can meet people to band with.

I am happy barbelith, and you all fucking rule.

There is always that weird uncertainty halfway through the making of a risotto, when I'm not sure if it's going to turn out. The rice doesn't seem soft enough yet, the whole thing hasn't acquired that creaminess...

But when it does! Risotto with prawns and mushrooms is a happy. Especially with fresh rosemary.

Fresh. You peel them and then when it's nearly done cooking you pop them in and they boil with the rice.

crisp sunny late winter day, tiny almond tree and big plum tree in flower, glossy black chickens with bright red combs stalking the backyard, pie and delicious salad for lunch on the back deck with great company, baby that is finally showing signs of night-day distinction and slept with us both in the bed last night...

happy
