OK, this is just eerie. Every day for the past six months, I have had an average of 100 spams a day. Today? Nothing. Not even an invitation, from the secret relatives of my uncle who died in Nigeria in an inexplicable oilfield related accident, to benefit from the millions he accumulated for one-legged orphans. Something very odd is going on. Did the GOP Congress have control of global spamming techniques or something?
I am going beyond happy to worried that I will pay for it somewhere down the line.

After weeks of working like a Republican spin doctor

In fact so much work you clearly haven't been watching the news...

Au contraire, ma chère.

Read a good piece yesterday relating the various Right Wing Fanaticist tribes' responses to events and Elizabeth Kübler Ross's Stages of Grief. Some of them, astonishingly, are still spinning the meltdown, trapped in the Anger and Denial phases.

Me, I'm having a partayy.

Random things that make me happy this week: I lost my job and found another one right away, without even missing a week's pay. Unfortunately it's in a call centre, but shit work always makes me more disciplined at my more important pursuits. The Slits are coming to town next March. I'm going on a roadtrip to Canberra in a month with a boy I don't know to see Jacques Ranciere talk at Parliament House, which will be surreal and strange.

There have been supersecret random pulses of sexual tension passing between one point and another, in a slightly illicit way, and I figured out how to deal with it in a mature way, without cutting off the source of the tension.

And on Friday night a new friend called me up especially to offer totally unexpected praise, affection and admiration. Which totally undid me, disarmed me, made me feel absolutely blessed.

Plus baby beets, the first white peaches of the season, thunderstorms and rain.

Feels good to be alive. Here, have a happy! It's on me.

Watching a herd of complete and utter arseholes being (at least partially) disabused of their unbelievably pig ignorant attitudes towards race, and their own racial purity.

It's cheap, tacky telly, Channel 4, but hopefully it's doing some good.

i need a place where almost no-one knows me to say...

my girlfriend is finally pregnant!!!!! only 4 and half weeks pregnant, but still, it is the furthest we've got. this has been about three years in the making, what with working out it was what we wanted to do, negotiating with donor, negotiating with donor's new wife, six months of home insemination and then nearly a year of heartbreaking, horrible ivf.

i am so excited and happy it is almost bursting out of me and i want to tell people every day but i am being very secret squirrel about it here at work so barbelith is my release. please send good embryo sticking vibes our way...

It sort of a stylised corona of fire (picked out in black-work) around a heart. The heart is an empty space which shows my skin.

Originally the heart in the centre was in red, but halfway through the tattoo I decided I might actually like negative space more.

Weeeerd!

Absolutely blindingly brilliant weekend down in Brighton, equal parts loud music, rainy streets, chilling in pubs, now I'm back at work and my copy of 'Lost Girls' has finally arrived.

I'm checking the BBC news website every five minutes because today feels like a day when the universe loves me so much it'll go and knock off Margaret Thatcher too, but so far that hasn't happened. Never mind. AlanMoorePornSqueeeeeGo!

The tattoo has almost shed the scab and I am entering "silve skin" phase. This is happening early due, I believe, to the wonderful herbal balm. Hurrah for tattoo! Hurrah for herbal balm!

Alas, I lack a camera. Maybe, when it is healed, I should just photocopy my naked waistline?

I'm sure the library staff wouldn't mind.

Do you know how much air-conditioned space is needed to air out an expensive-but-dull shirt, Mordant?

You think these people want to have to drive oversized status symobols?!

Nuh-uh.. It's necessity.

Having a friend's three year old bouncing round my office all morning, squashing my lipstick into the furniture and throwing play dough at the windows brings it's own sort of happy.

Seeing her mum at the doorway, huge grin on her face at lunchtime, was the best. Still only 17, she's just been to court and had all her ASBOs revoked. I'm so proud of her.

I'm stupid excited, happy, and grinning that we are now fostering a baby elephant!

You know Barbelith dear, you made this possible via me posting a rant, Pegs creating a thread, and Lula posting the link to the elephant site.

I may just explode from sheer happiness. Her name is Lesanju!
