Erm... you do realise that, what with conscription and civil wars and stuff, many, many people in real life who actually ARE "battle-wearied" can still look quite, well, YOUNG, don't you?

True, but most of them aren't actually 900 years old. I can understand the idea that even an immortal race needs a few crinkles around the eyes to express that.

I think everyone with the background to do so has a favourite Doctor, and new Doctors are initially written off and then, with the exception of Colin Baker, eventually accepted. Often, "your" Doctor is the first Doctor you see - you imprint, really.

Personally, I like Jon Pertwee. I was about his age in the 70s, and watching him run around in a clearly sexual relationship with a much younger woman... well, it just sort of felt right, you know?

Stoat - Yeah, of course I realize that, but I would not really compare Doctor Who with real life, would you? If Matt Smith does the melancolic Doctor and make it work, I would have no problem with him (though I don't think Mofat wants to do that from now on, based mostly on his decision to focus on "new" enemies and plot lines, giving the show a "young" feel to appeal to a new audience instead of old fans...). Plus, much of the reasons on why I liked Doc-9 so much were due to Eccleston's acting and many of the antics he gave to the character over Tennant's somewhat boyish (and eventually grim) Doc-10*, as well. Not that it was not good, I just like Eccleston a bit better in the role.

Haus - You understand me so well...

* For instance, I loved the way he refered to humans as "monkeys" whenever he got angry/disapointed at them(us), or the way he managed to make a brass-colored tincan chained to the ground sound so dangerous and terrifying just by saying "You have a live Dalek here?" (or something like that. Mind you, it was my first ever contact with them, being at the time new to the show.

Is it a signifier of something dark and horrible within me that I really like Colin Baker's Doctor, despite the insufferable McCoy being my "first"? It's probably just a bad taste thing, isn't it?

So, this New Doctor came into the shop where I work yesterday. He was all elbows and knees and a bit over the top, but seemed like he might be genuinely odd in an ever-so-slightly-Julian-Cope-ish sort of way.

Or maybe I was just hoping...

In a parallel world, Julian Cope is the next Doctor.

Kali, Queen of Kitteh

That is equal parts terrifying and appropriate.

Ronnie Corbett due to guest star in the Sarah Jane Adventures Comic Relief Special. Which, you know, is nice.
