Once I've completed this race for a second village, I'll be able to help out a few of us in need. Promise!

I'll send you some phalanxes erotic thriller.

OK. We've been offered a wingship by the Lords SW. What do you reckon?
I have an irrational dislike of the Lords, but being a wing would protect us from them and their wings, and deter the big alliances who are the only ones who are a real threat (. and STA) and give us a freer hand to attack.

I'm tempted. I'll message alliance members in game and poll opinion and tell the ambassador we'll think about it and get back to them after the weekend.

I have a similar dislike of the lords alliances, but they're probably a useful group to have on-side...

This person is busy attacking me, so they are probably pretty undefended. You should smite em.

Otherwise, troop reinforcements that can get here in an hour, are much appreciated.

Quantum, I suggest you accept.

I also need some diplomatic representation. I've been attacked by the head of a powerful alliance and have been bombed back to the stone age (three weeks ago, to be more accurate). That's a lot of investment. He's knocked out my two settlers and over 40 of my legionnaires. There's now no way I can proceed with my plan of establishing the wheat village next to me.

This is VERY frustrating. The attack is completely unprovoked and I was less than a day from achieving my goal. Now I'm going to be permanently behind and only be able to focus on building my one village while this guy farms me. It appears that his alliance's policy is to be aggressive and he's powerful enough to dominate his whole region.

It's just me (Indy) and Ombwiri up here. The attacker is "Ballistic" and he's just about to send another attack.

Maybe he mistakenly thought I was inactive because in all this time my population hasn't grown (focussed on troops, residency and then settlers )

Does a spokesperson want to contact Ballistic on behalf of the alliance?

Cheers.

I've sent a message to them asking them to stop - will let you know the response - looking at the beautifully named alliance they belong to (GoDs Of PaiN - or something) I'm predicting that diplomacy might not work - but if they suprise us, great!

Benny the Ball
11:49 / 05.01.08
Indy, he should stop now - it came about because of ombwiri scouting his capitol which he took as an alliance based act of aggression.

I'll send a message to ombwiri to stop the scouting of alliance members....

Cheers, Benny.

What a mess! I'll let you know if there's further aggression. Makes me regret recruiting in my neighbourhood - I can't believe that Ombwiri pulled that move..

So frustrated... I invested so much and it's all gone!

No Problem - Ballistic has ended his aggressions, I've said that you had nothing to do with it, which they are fine with, but that if ombwimi does anything else, they should feel free to attack just them as I've sent a message telling them to stop.

Got hit pretty hard by pablu Village (-70|-48). Assembling a counter measure with a handful of the Area BBC villages.

If any of you Gauls want to lend some Phalanxes to a defensive maneuver or some Teutons for a punitive raid. Drop me a message for details on where/when to send either . . . Or even if someone felt like scouting that Village's Troops & Defenses . . . the info would be useful.

Tricks, we are allied with AHFIII and he is AHF so maybe try the diplomatic approach.
I am going to accept the Lords proposal and get a wing set up. I'll keep you informed, but in the meantime The Dwarf needs a kicking, everyone who can attack please do.

Benny the Ball
10:35 / 06.01.08
Dwarf is un-connected, so I'd say everyone focus on him - the pattern should be no alliance = all out attack in retaliation to any aggressive (inc. scouting) action by others, in an alliance = exhaust all diplomatic avenues first. At the very least this should buy you some time to build troops. If you contact the attacker first, if no response, check his alliance and see if there is someone there to contact, if still no response, allow someone from your alliance to mediate - if nothing then, then think about acts of war.

Good advice, there, Benny, and something we should stick to even if others don't.

I've calmed down now realised there's a positive aspect here - another server will start up in the future and we can all start over and put together an even better alliance there now that we have a feel for the game. Perhaps we could make a name for ourselves as honourable, diplomatic players and take this into future iterations of Travian.

Cool Beans, I would also advise registering a couple of days after the server starts (from the 11th) otherwise you get stuck in the very middle with the uberdedicated players who you can't farm. Like I am now on 4.
Let's all register on Friday in the SW and start another BBC or Barbelith alliance!

In other news, Rojogrande is inactive and getting farmed so I've dropped them from the alliance (welcome back when active again of course) but in the meantime farm away, better we get it than our enemies.

I belong to an alliance on S2 where the policy is to keep inactive members for intra-alliance farming. Means that the alliance gets most of their uncrannied resources.

In other news, H are raiding me again. Not pleased. And a member of the lords too (are we allying ourselves with them or can I retaliate?)

Someone's nicked my 15-wheat land. Someone from all the way in the north, which is weird and saddening. The next nearest one is right next to a lords member, so an alliance/winging with them would be real useful, they might get mad when I take it.

Quantum

We're not allying with the Lords officially as we would get targeted by their enemies as a smaller alliance.
Jugglius is fighting the Dwarf and has destroyed his army I think, so please attack if you can (or reinforce Jugglius)

Everyone please check the new forum-

...so the non-Barbelith players can be kept informed.

We are alliance rank 43!

Right, what's the deal with raiding oases? What's good and bad about doing so?

I know that Oggiz is (slowly) working his way up to a level 10 Hero's Mansion, so hopefully soon we'll find out.

With the oases, it's basically like raiding a village only you're slaughtering adorable animals instead of enemy troops. If you do have a level 10 mansion and you kill off the defenders, you "occupy" the oasis and it gives you a production bonus based on the type. The problem is once you've occupied it, other people can raid the oasis and steal up to 10% of your village's resources every 10 minutes.

So basically you'll need a couple hundred or so troops to make raiding the oasis worthwhile, and you need plenty of extra defenders to camp out there once it's yours.

the uk speed server is about to restart, with a start on the 11th and registration starting on the 9th. if anyone is interested in starting a speed-barballiance, i'd love to join you.

Benny the Ball

The look of an oasis will give you an idea of what to expect - ie, woodland = wood boost, mountainous = iron boost. Most people tend to leave them alone once you've occupied one (you'll need a hero to occupy, just troops to raid).

Most raids do incure big troop losses, and take a few goes, so well worth having high troop numbers to go for this.

ah it's a speed server.. any guesses as to when the next normal-paced server will start?

i'm pretty sure restarts depend on when the server is "won", i.e. when an alliance manages to create a wonder of the world. the speed server was offline for a couple weeks after it was won, i'd imagine the others would be similar.

Hi all,

Marlboro1 from the village Cave Canem just attacked me with 400 axemen, so we are starting a war with the Lords of Mayhem alliance.
Please send me a message in game if you have troops so I can coordinate action, if not please send me a message saying you have no troops, then I know who is able to strike at our enemies.

It turns out the armies of the BBC are about as tough as Declan (from TVs Ant&Dec comedic duo) so I've discovered a diplomatic solution is always quicker and easier.

We have been offered a partnership with DEAD which would help us out so I'm tempted to accept unless anyone objects, I'll try and message everyone in game. BTW has anyone worked out a way to message the whole alliance at once yet?

Apparently putting [ally] in the message window sends a message to the whole alliance.

Also; It turns out the armies of the BBC are about as tough as Declan (from TVs Ant&Dec comedic duo)

Hey! I resent that remark! I'm at least as hard as Dick (of Dick and Dom in the Bungalow).

On a more serious note, though, I've only not got an army because it would be pointless; my nearest neighbour is rock bastard hard and checks on me every morning to see if I have anything interesting going on, like uncrannied resources or troops. It's like a morning ritual, now; log in, let the virtual cat out, welcome my Hans-Blix-esque neighbour who's checking for any evidence of activity, and laugh when he finds none.

I do, however, have a Hero for Hire if anyone wants him; his name is Smith, and he's currently residing in Oggiz village, which means recalling him takes a while, but if you want a Praetorian Hero with points in Defence and Defence bonus hanging around your village, smoking woodbines, eyeing the local ladies and mentally preparing himself for repeated Death and Resurrection, just let me know!

To be honest I'm vaguely paranoid about posting any of my stats or measurements here on the off-chance that we're being spied on. Hi, Len!

Hans Blix sounds like a hilarious, if slightly obsessive neighbour, Ff. Is he doing it to farm you or is he, in the style of The Man, keeping you down?

Triplets
17:56 / 15.01.08
Okay, this is odd. Len seems to have disappeared from the map completely, and I've double checked the coordinates I've posted in the past so I don't think it's a name change. Do players/villages disappear if you don't log in from time to time?
