Who was it who said rewriting was the real writing? Probably not the first to say it, even if they made it famous, but anyhow, it's true. Ideas, everybody has, but extrapolating from them and stitching it all together so it's entertaining and revelatory? Usually not effortless, but even when it is, when it comes off it's just a beautiful feeling and nice to look back at.

From what I know of your story, you ought to have good material to work from.

And I presume your winery activities were at the least pleasant, yeah?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
02:58 / 13.08.07
Oh, definitely. I found a blackberry port that I really enjoyed. By the end of the day, the last winery didn't really excite anyone, but our palates were a bit worn out by that point. Plus, tons of cheese and bread and humous and such just exhausted us.

Ugh. Could be a heck of alot better. Just got back from a family function (wedding).

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:03 / 13.08.07
Was there drama?

Saint Keggers
03:12 / 13.08.07
Just the usual so and so isnt talkigi to this one who isnt talking to that one...but Im going great with all of them...joy.
On a positive note this was the first wedding I didnt get a "so you're next?" comment from the relatives.
On a negative note this was this first wedding I got that from my parents. Joy!

This Sunday
03:27 / 13.08.07
I've been getting the 'when' from my mom, since possibly around mid-teens, when I left home. Which never stops getting weird.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:31 / 13.08.07
Tragically, that's sort of the perogative of parents -- "you're not getting any younger" style nagging.

Last wedding I went to was my cousin's, and I was the only cousin not included in the wedding party. But then, I haven't had a particularly close relationship with my cousins, not since we were little. It was a very odd affair -- mennonite wedding ceremony followed by a very Romany reception. Naturally, I made friends with the only oddball cousin from the other side of the family (his cousin on the father's side) and generally waited around for the thing to end.

Who was getting married?

Well on the plus side, I did get on stage and sing The Love Boat theme with 4 of my cousins.

03:36 / 13.08.07
A cousin was getting married.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:48 / 13.08.07
And did we drink our fill of strange and exotic wines, on said cousin's dollar?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:49 / 13.08.07
I fired on some Tom Waits onto my iPod and now I'm looking for research material. Specifically, vintage hotel photographs.

Saint Keggers
03:52 / 13.08.07
No, we were a good boy. 5 wines and a bacardi. Thats all.

Just gis Old hotels

Saint Keggers
03:56 / 13.08.07
and 2 beers. (forgot those)

Saint Keggers
04:02 / 13.08.07
anyway, Im heading to bed., G'night all.

This Sunday
04:04 / 13.08.07
Oh. Turn away for a second.

Well, g'night, V.

Gah, I need to put something lively on and reenergize myself.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:06 / 13.08.07
I suggest a silk chemise and some bunny slippers. Wake you right up.

I need to find my notebook so I can make some revision notes, particularly relating to a new character some stray thoughts to fire into the story. I like this part of the work, because you just keep shooting shit at the piece until some of it sticks.

This Sunday
04:07 / 13.08.07
So, Papers, out of sheer random curiosity, whenabouts did you stop reading DC's 52?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:11 / 13.08.07
Um. Shit, I dunno. Week 30, thereabouts? I've recycled most of them as it stands, and keep debating the idea of picking up the trades. Except that I then remember that the beautiful covers were never quite lived up to.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:14 / 13.08.07
I think I quit a few weeks after Doc Magnus ended up on the mad scientist island.

This Sunday
04:17 / 13.08.07
I bailed earlier than you, but I have to say, reading the whole thing a few a day worked out pretty good.

You're rewriting just knocked the series into my head, is all. For it's eventual redirections of certain plots based on not putting A and B together so much as triangulating A, B and 7 and then looking at what fell outside the lines.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:19 / 13.08.07
You remember that line Quintum feeds Jimmy in A*S #4 -- it takes me exactly seven minutes to read, which happens to be the time I take in the washroom in the morning? That was how I felt about 52. I wonder if, when collected, they'd read slightly better. Maybe I'll pick up the trade this week and give it a test drive.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:22 / 13.08.07
As a side note, I'm fairly certain Templechurch looks like the red-headed snaker-stripper replicant from Blade Runner. The one who gets shot wearing that transparent plastic coat.

This Sunday
04:25 / 13.08.07
In bigger doses it didn't seem as scant, no, and it did it's job of reminding me why I like certain writers and validated my displeasure with the collected works and aesthetics of others.

Well, one other, anyway.

But, then, I have me some low standards, sometimes. I'd have eventually paid for the whole thing, just for the mad scientists. Will Magnus and our boy Morrow were quite oh, yes many a time.

This Sunday
04:28 / 13.08.07
Puts a fresh angle on the name, for me. And there aren't enough transparent coats in print, so good one, there.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:29 / 13.08.07
It's unfortunate about all that Black Adam stuff. I was really enjoying the sheer Chandler-on-acid-ness of the Charlie & Renee Montoya stuff up until their story crossed into Black Adam's muddied waters.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:34 / 13.08.07
Might be time to shut the window. Moths and mosquitos are beginning to seethe in at the edges.

Darwyn Cooke's Question.

This Sunday
04:35 / 13.08.07
They did recover, those kookie big coats and gun types, but unfortunately, by then we were getting some really not so great artwork. So many could-be-classic moments shorn of style and iconicism (that can be witnessed in the breakdowns) all throughout, sadly.

I've just been informed I cannot have any kind of kissing or the word love appear in the lovestory part of the children's book gig. Which is proving awkwarder that the seriousoly suspect word 'awkwarder.'

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:49 / 13.08.07
What an odd restriction for a love story.

Yeah, the art on 52 was -really- up and down. JG Jones's covers were so brilliant, really appealing stuff, but then inside was just...half-baked.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:50 / 13.08.07
...on the other hand, I just dug the Rick Veitch/Tommy Lee Edwards Question miniseries out of the depths of my collection and am looking forward to being impressed by it again.

This Sunday
04:59 / 13.08.07
Faceless self-reliant/confident badass should be harder to illustrate weakly than it apparently is. More props to those who do it real well.

I got all of Alan Davis' Killraven for exceptionally cheap the other day, so I keep trying to crack'em open and read. At least the art'll be good, right?

Wow, it's getting later. Soon... dinner. Very soon.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
05:05 / 13.08.07
Vic Sage is such a stunning visual that it appalls me when people fuck it up.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
05:11 / 13.08.07
Hmm. I should probably start getting ready for bed. I'll sit under lamp-light and fire off some shit for the rewrite. At least a workable list of important characters that need, say, fleshing out could do wonders.

This Sunday
05:17 / 13.08.07
I should start practicing being up in the daylight more, so the retreat doesn't go wonky.

Wonkier.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
05:19 / 13.08.07
I do sometimes wonder about your late-late-late nights. But then, I often do my best work after dark, so...

ANYWAY, I'm folding my leaves and piling them in the corner. For the night.

This Sunday
05:22 / 13.08.07
Well, g'night.
